Netflix

Stop your lamenting about Netflix's plan to divide their company in two, because they have already cancelled the launch of their sister site, Qwikster.

Announced only three short weeks ago, Qwikster was supposed to take over the DVD rental service that Netflix previously offered. But the immediate consumer backlash led Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to realize that maybe that wasn't such a great idea. He announced today in a statement that the new business model has been scrapped, and Netflix will remain Netflix for the foreseeable future.

ZoolanderDon't say we didn't call it. Barely a week after MTV's Josh Wigler suggested that a "Zoolander" cartoon series follow one being made about "Napoleon Dynamite," The New York Times reports that's exactly what's happening. Ben Stiller and his Red Hour Films production company are bringing the egocentric male supermodel from the 2001 comedy hit out of retirement for a series of animated digital shorts for the Web.

"It's just a way to say, 'Hey, let's go do a couple of little five-minute episodes as opposed to saying, 'Hey, let's pitch it to the studio and then let's have a fight over the budget for six months,'" Stiller told The New York Times. Read More...

Napoleon DynamiteSix years have passed since we've seen the smooth moves of teen geek heartthrob Napoleon Dynamite. But 20th Century Fox is bringing the character back in all of his nun-chuck and computer-hacking glory with an all-new animated series arriving next year.

With director and co-writer Jared Hess executive producing the show and Jon Heder and other actors returning to reprise their beloved characters, we're absolutely excited to see what the series has to offer -- so much so that we're already thinking about other movies that would make for great cartoon shows!

It's hard to believe it's been nine years since Derek Zoolander unleashed "Blue Steel" upon the world, but at long last the brain-cell-challenged supermodel is primed for a comeback: A script for "Zoolander 2" is almost complete, and Ben Stiller and co. could be beautifying the big-screen again sometime in 2012.

Justin Theroux, who is co-writing the script with Stiller and plans to direct, told MTV News as much while at New York Comic Con promoting the raunchy medieval comedy "Your Highness." The script is in good shape right now," he said. "I'm feeling very optimistic about it. We're doing a few little tweaks before we submit it, but I'm very hopeful that I'm going to be working on that soon."

Theroux and Stiller aren't the only ones who'll (potentially) be working on it. Owen Wilson is set to reprise his role as Zoolander's rival-turned-pal Hansel. And Theroux -- who you may remember as the evil DJ who break-dance-fought Hansel in the first film -- says the screenplay paves the way for the return of Will Ferrell's Mugatu and the introduction of a new character played by Jonah Hill. Last week brought the amazing news that finally, after almost a decade, Ben Stiller is thinking seriously about a "Zoolander" sequel. He's currently writing it with "Iron Man 2" scribe Justin Theroux, who will also direct. That's the news as we had it last week.

Well we chatted up Stiller over the weekend at the junket for "Greenberg," the upcoming comedy he stars in for writer/director Noah Baumbach. He had quite a bit to say about the coming return of his iconic male model parody. Why it's taken so long for a sequel, where the story will go, who we can expect to see return... maybe not everything you want to know, but lots of juicy info nonetheless.

"Yes, it is true," Stiller confirmed of the sequel plans. "We are in the process of getting a script written. It's in the early stages, but it's gonna happen. We've been trying for years to... figure it out. It'll have input from all the... 'Zoolander' people. It's just... taken awhile." Read More...

Yesterday brought the really, really ridiculously good news that "Zoolander 2 is in the making, with Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux writing, and Theroux directing. We obviously know roughly squat about the story for the upcoming sequel, but it's safe to at least speculate that some time will have passed between the events of the first and the second movies. Hell, we see as much of Derek's future in the final scenes of "Zoolander."

It's been almost 10 years since the late-September 2001 release of the original, and the world has changed a great deal since then. Being an international superstar, we've no doubt that Derek has managed to keep busy during the intervening years. But how? We've sketched out a few possibilities thanks to the Photoshop wizardry of MTV's exceedingly talented Sohyung Kang. ZoolanderEarlier today, Movies Blog brought you the really, really, really good news that a second "Zoolander" is currently in the development stage. Ben Stiller will co-write alongside "Iron Man 2" and "Tropic Thunder" scribe Justin Theroux, who also plans to direct. Assuming the news is true, it's a major victory for Derek Zoolander's devoted fan base. But in fairness, a lot of time has passed since "Zoolander." The celebrated male model was already feeling past his prime in the 2001 comedy, so there's no telling how the past decade has treated him since that existential crisis.

The only thing that's certain about "Zoolander 2" is that all bets are off — time has passed, people have changed, and the hilarity is sure to flow like a river of really funny things. While we wait to hear more, let's talk about some of the things we're hoping to see from the sequel. Read More...

Earth to readers. I've got some really, really, really good news to share with you today. "Zoolander" is getting a sequel. Probably. "It's been too long" is an understatement.

The 2001 comedy starring Ben Stiller as a vain, exceedingly dim male model has long been talked about for a follow-up. Fans of the cult hit certainly want one, and everyone associated with the original has had to field questions about the possibility for close to a decade now. Will Ferrell, who played the villainous clothing designer Mugatu in the first movie, told MTV in early 2008 that there had been "a little talk" but the ideas were "just not crystallizing." We later heard more encouraging news from original writer John Hamburg, who said "I think someday we will make that movie." Stiller himself spoke out about a sequel as recently as May 2009, saying "I'd love to do 'Zoolander 2.'"

Now however, plans seem to finally be gelling. Read More...

Ben Stiller and Owen WilsonBen Stiller fans have been waiting on a follow-up to his cult classic film "Zoolander" since its release in 2001 -- but other than a few joking comments from screenwriter John Hamburg, we haven't heard much on that front to get us hopeful. Still, as Zoolander himself proclaimed, "You gotta tame the beast before you let it out of its cage." Now, it's looking like that tiger's getting ready to pounce.

"I'd love to do 'Zoolander 2,'" the actor proclaimed in an interview with Screen Rush. "We've actually worked on a script over the years and hopefully it'll happen. It's just a matter of ... getting it all together and finding the right story, but it would really be fun to do that again." Read More...

Ben Stiller in 'Zoolander'Derek Zoolander once wondered if there were more to life than being “really, really, ridiculously good looking.” By the end of his 2001 movie about the world of competitive male modeling, he may or may not have discovered the truth. Dude was pretty dumb, after all. Now he might get another shot to answer that timeless philosophical brain-teaser in a long-awaited sequel.

“Ben [Stiller] and I have talked about it for a little while," revealed the film’s scribe, John Hamburg, about a film that would reunite Stiller’s Zoolander with his nemesis-turned-comrade Hansel (Owen Wilson). "I think someday we will make that movie.”

While he offered no details about a plot, nor any hint about other potential returning stars like Will Ferrell and Christine Taylor, Hamburg did drop a possible title for the film: “Twolander.” Read More...
