TLautTaylor Lautner wasn't able to work with Gus Van Sant on "Breaking Dawn," so now he's created his own project for the director to helm.

MTV News reports that Lautner optioned a nonfiction article from The New Yorker, and has convinced Van Sant to direct it for him. "Milk" scribe Dustin Lance Black will pen the project, with Lautner in the lead role. Little more is known about the film, but it will be Lautner's first dramatic role to date.

Zoe SaldanaBetween her starring turns in "Avatar" and "Columbiana," Zoe Saldana is finally on the cusp of total "Dominion."

While we await the production start and release dates for J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" sequel - which he told us last week is about a month away - it's fun to try and find out what the cast members would like to see their characters do in another movie.

Therefore when MTV News caught up with the lovely Zoe Saldana at the Teen Choice Awards (where she introduced the adorable "Harry Potter" tribute, our "Choice Farewell"), the actress shared a few fun thoughts about what kind of action Uhura should see in the sequel.

Anytime the entertainment news cycle shifts to focus on new information released about highly-anticipated movie sequels and threequels, (i.e. the buzzworthy new photos from "The Dark Knight Rises"), it gets us thinking about all the other exciting upcoming second, third or fourth chapters of film franchises.

Take James Cameron's second and third "Avatar," films for example. When are they going to start production already? I tried to find out from lovely leading lady Zoe Saldana at the Teen Choice Awards yesterday. Specifically, I asked her if she's heard anything from Cameron yet.

"No. I heard that we might go next year so I'm really psyched," Saldana revealed about a potential 2012 start. "I'm keeping my bags packed," she admitted. "I would do anything for that man and for that project, so I'm waiting."

Benedict CumberbatchAt long last, two of the most important roles in "The Hobbit" have been filled out.

"Immortals" actor Luke Evans will star in Peter Jackson's two-part "Lord of the Rings" prequel as Bard the Bowman, a man of Laketown who fights against the devious dragon Smaug. Speaking of Smaug, Deadline confirms that the previously (and accidentally) revealed Benedict Cumberbatch is providing both the voice and motion-capture for the fire-breathing beast.

Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger TidesThe Internet Movie Database has compiled its list of the top 25 (and top 100) most searched stars in 2010, and if there's anything that it shows it's that the "Twilight Saga" stars might actually be going out of style. While Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson still sit happily at the #2 and #3 spots (respectively), Taylor Lautner tumbled from the #5 spot in 2009 down to the #14 spot this year, Dakota Fanning went from #8 to #18, and Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed fell off the list entirely. (Greene dropped to #52 in the top 100 while Reed joined co-stars Kellan Lutz and Peter Facinelli somewhere outside the top hundy.)

But does that really mean anything for the series? Probably not, considering Daniel Radcliffe is nowhere to be see on the list, Emma Watson dropped from #53 to #64, and Rupert Grint was never on it at all, yet "Harry Potter" continues to dominate in the box office. Maybe the reason why the "Twilight" stars were searched less is because 90 percent of the global movie-loving audience can now recite their filmographies from memory, but you never know.

Unsurprisingly, the top spot on IMDb's list goes to Johnny Depp, taking that honor for the sixth time. Considering Depp's won in the past without having any movies come out that year, the release of "Alice in Wonderland," "The Tourist" and the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" trailer made this one Depp's to lose. Find out who else made the cut after the jump. Read More...

Gears of War-- The "Gears of War" movie may be in trouble as director Len Wiseman's involvement in the video game adaptation is no longer certain. Additionally, Chris Morgan and Billy Ray's screenplay is getting an overhaul designed to make the story "more simple." [The Los Angeles Times]

-- Actor Joel Edgerton is starring in the upcoming prequel of "The Thing," which he says will be "heaps better" than the original, though he's quick to mention that director Matthijs van Heijningen isn't "trying to eclipse the film." [Collider]

-- Speaking of "reimaginings," Hollywood has two other remakes in the works — a "Real Genius" remake from Columbia Pictures and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment, and "House Party" from Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment and New Line. Please, discuss in the comments section. [Pajiba] Read More...

If you don't know the name Zoe Saldana after 2009, then you don't follow movies very closely. The star of "Star Trek" and "Avatar," Saldana is one of the most in-demand performers on the planet right now. As you might imagine, her big priority right now... is reprising her roles in sequels to both of those movies. MTV's Larry Carroll chatted her up at WonderCon over the weekend, and he asked which we're likely to see first: "Star Trek 2" or "Avatar 2."

"I think 'Star Trek,'" she replied. "Because that one's already going into pre-production soon...." She paused. "From what I hear," she corrected, playfully drawing out each word. "Unless J.J., who's always full of surprises...." Read More...

James Cameron has already told us that the deleted sex scene in "Avatar"—with its promise of intertwining tendrils and ripples of alien-induced ecstasy—is rather less tantalizing than we might have been led to believe. "I think it's one of those cases where the fantasy vastly exceeds the reality," the director told us last week at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.

So while the big blue alien bang session between Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) may only be five or ten seconds long, Saldana is still eager for the viewing public to check it out.

"It's worth it," she said at Critics' Choice, "especially now we're living in a time where there's not enough affection and sexuality in movies. I miss the '80s!" Read More...

Shortly before "Avatar" came out, director James Cameron told MTV that he has a larger story in mind for the movie's universe. "We'll follow Jake and Neytiri," he said. "I have a trilogy-scaled arc of story right now, but I haven't really put any serious work into writing a script."

At that point, there was nothing official to announce. People knew the movie was going to make money -- this is James Cameron we're talking about -- but no one could know just what a monumental success "Avatar" would become. Now that we know? Cameron's much more open to discussing what's next. Read More...
