FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Zac Efron is all grown up, and having quite a year. He’s received good reviews for the upcoming “Me and Orson Welles,” and “17 Again,” and proved to have a lot of staying power at the box office with his starring “17″ turn. (He even managed to hold out against “X-Men Origin: Wolverine,” which is no small feat!)
Efron surprised many when he dropped out of “Footloose”, but he’s eager to take on more mature roles, and making good progress by joining projects such as “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zac is continuing his movie maturation by landing the lead part in an untitled thriller.

What happens when two of the biggest teen-friendly franchises around -- "High School Musical" and "Twilight" meet? We found out on the carpet at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.
When we caught up with Zac Efron (who just won Best Male Performance at tonight's show), we had to ask him about his the Best Kiss nomination from "Twilight," featuring -- of course -- Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. So what did he think of the lip-lock? The "High School Musical 3" star says his movie may be at a disadvantage this year in the Best Kiss race. To find out why, hit the video after the jump. It's a question for the ages: If you had your pick between dating Movie Award nominees Robert Pattinson (Breakthrough Performance Male) and Zac Efron (Best Male Performance), and you absolutely had to choose, who would it be? Well, Twilighters aren't the only ones with an answer to that question -- Movie Awards host Andy Samberg has his favorite as well.
Calling Pattinson more "dangerous" and declaring that Efron is "probably softer, closer to a lady," it's a tight race. Watch the video below to see who Samberg picks and then click here to watch more of our hilarious interview with the "SNL" star.
As I mentioned recently, there are few things I love as much as a good "movie-with-a-movie" scene, be it a glimpse at "Habeus Corpus," "Chubby Rain" or Eli Roth’s upcoming Nazi flick "The Nation’s Pride." So recently, when I got a few minutes with comedy mastermind Judd Apatow, I had to ask him about all of the upcoming mini-movies in "Funny People" that will pair Adam Sandler with the likes of Owen Wilson.
"There’s a poster in his house from a movie called 'My Best Friend is a Robot,' and Owen is the robot," Apatow said of his July 31st comedy, which stars Sandler as a comedian whose career has taken off with a series of popular – if not ill-conceived – high-concept movies. "There’s also a movie called 'Redux,' where he turns into a baby." Read more...
Zac Efron + $24 million dollar opening = sure-fire sequel. Right? The tricky thing is that the movie in question is the old-guy-becomes-a-teenager comedy ‘17 Again,’ in which Efron plays a young version of Matthew Perry’s character. Where does a screenwriter go from there in a quest to move the story forward?
Efron’s co-star, Thomas Lennon (“Reno 911!”) has a couple ideas. “You turn it into 18-year-old Zac Efron, who’s maybe even a little bit hunkier and dreamer than 17-year-old Zac Efron,” he said in a recent interview with MTV News. “Although both of ‘em pretty much break the dreamy meter.”
“Oh my god, wouldn’t that be awesome!” he laughed. “I’m down for it! I have no problem doing ‘18 Again.’ Basically the same premise…. I ain’t picky.” Read more...
When you go see "17 Again" in theaters today, keep your ears peeled for some of the hottest bands today and some retro faves. That tip is courtesy of stars Zac Efron and Thomas Lennon, who run down the soundtrack in the video below. With an eclectic mix of artists like Santogold, Linkin Park and Young MC, there's probably something in there for everyone to enjoy.
Holy hotness! If you are a member of young Hollywood, and if you're not Audrina Patridge attending your own movie premiere for "Into the Blue 2," you were absolutely on the "17 Again" red carpet last night. Zac Efron walked the carpet, with Vanessa Hudgens also in attendance for support (she looked gorgeous, btw). Zac's co-star and "Gossip Girl" villian Michelle Trachtenberg looked fantastic, the Jonas Brothers, the cast of this season's "American Idol" … where do we start?!
Mr. Efron was zactacular in a sleek and clean black suit and tie. Very classic, very "I could be going to the Oscars." The Nick, Joe and Kevin all coordinated their looks (as usual), playing off different shades of gray. Sounds boring, but it wasn't. "American Idol" favorite Adam Lambert rocked out in a black leather jacket and loads of guyliner. He’s one of the funniest men in stand-up comedy. But when Jim Gaffigan recently got to shoot a movie with Zac Efron, even he had some lessons to learn about timing.
“He is so equipped for this mega-stardom, it’s kind of scary,” grinned the comic, who appears opposite Efron in “17 Again,” which hits theaters April 17th. “Obviously, after ‘High School Musical,’ [we know he] can dance and all that. And there is a dance number in there - and I am in the corner eating Hot Pockets.”
Despite recent rumors that Efron had given up dancing to pursue more adult roles, the 21-year-old star does manage to kick up his heels one last time in a “17 Again” scene. Read more...
The cabbie who drove me to the hotel kept making fun of Ashton Kutcher. My room at Planet Hollywood is themed around Dolph Lundgren’s 1987 clunker “Masters of the Universe.” This afternoon, I browsed concession booths pitching Dipping Dots, White Castle Jalapeno Cheeseburgers, and more variations on nachos and popcorn than I thought humanly possible.
I might be in Nevada, but it sure feels like I’m still in LA.
Welcome to ShoWest, the annual convention in Las Vegas where theater owners, studios and journalists come to meet up and talk about all the big films of the next few months. I’ve already taken some pictures of all the various posters, from the best (“Terminator Salvation” has a really badass standee) to the worst (Nia Vardalos in a quasi-sequel to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” a half-decade too late?) to the uneventful (the “New Moon” poster is so plain that I found it over in a corner of the hallway, leaning against the wall virtually unnoticed). "17 Again" doesn't hit theaters until April 17th here in the United States, but lucky Australian Zac Efron fans get an early sneak peek at the film. It opens a week early down under, and premiered last night, an entire month before the film will be released there.
Fans flocked to the premiere to get a glimpse of Zac (swoon!) and were treated to a surprise: Taylor Swift also walked the red carpet. Zac and Taylor took the time to sign autographs and meet fans, while also posing for photos.
Swift's hair and makeup team never fail to impress, and the singer face was flawless yet again. However, her dress was not something I would have chosen for a tall, slender girl. With a long neck and excellent posture, Taylor Swift looked a bit giraffe-like in her white dress, which had vertical detailing in the front that elongated her neck. She looked flawless at the Grammy Red Carpet in February with a v-neckline -- she should stick with that, although you have to give her props for taking a risk. (Check out her dress after the jump, plus see more photos from the "17 Again" Australia premiere in our gallery.) Read more...
