Natalie Portman in Black SwanIt's not a big secret that the two female leads of "Black Swan," played by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, are intentionally foils of one another. Portman's Nina personifies everything about the White Swan in "Swan Lake." She's poised, contained and rigid, so focused on her quest for perfection that she is seemingly passionless. Kunis' Lily, on the other hand, is the embodiment of the Black Swan: spontaneous, sensual and unrestricted. Together, they make one complete being.

The examination of these two characters' bond takes up a big part of the film, but analyzing character foils is nothing new to cinema. A character foil is described as "a character who represents a sharp contrast with the protagonist and thus serves to stress and highlight the protagonist's distinctive temperament," and plenty of films have them. We decided to take a look at some of our favorites after the jump. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: The dilemma is clear, the solution utterly nutty. In "Youth in Revolt," Michael Cera's Nick Twisp plays a young romantic whose dweeby sensitivity is not going to win him the virginity-stealing affections of sultry tease Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday). Twisp's plan? Invent Mr. François Dillinger, an alter ego whose fire-starting, car-stealing ways might help Nick bed the gal of his dreams.

As far as savvy girl-getting strategies go, Twisp's might not be the wisest, as it soon becomes a little hard to differentiate between his true self and his law-breaking one. It certainly makes for a ton of laughs, though. What are the critics saying? With the film opening on Friday (January 8), the reviews are in. Let's take a look.

FROM MTV.COM: As every nice guy knows, girls have an inexplicable thing for bad boys. Which is bad news for Nick Twisp (Michael Cera), who unfortunately couldn't be nicer. Nick is 16 years old and a budding sophisticate whose tastes — shared by no one in his circle of pathetic acquaintances — run to Frank Sinatra records and old Fellini movies. He's also a virgin whose knowledge of sex consists entirely of rumor. He longs to score, ideally with a girl whose tastes run to Frank Sinatra records and old Fellini movies ... or something, you know, similar.

But there's no one like that in sight, or maybe even in existence. And meanwhile, everyone around Nick seems to be scoring like mad, even his divorced parents. His mom (Jean Smart), with whom he lives, is currently filling the vacancy in her love life with a beardy schlub named Jerry (Zach Galifianakis); and his dad (Steve Buscemi) is shacked up with a 25-year-old cupcake named Lacey (Ari Graynor). Nick is so ready to join the scoring multitudes, if only he could figure out how.

All this week we've been bringing you pretty hilarious footage featuring "Youth in Revolt" star Michael Cera and his new pals from MTV's "Jersey Shore" reality series. First, there was the new hairdo. Then there was the lesson in proper fist pumping. And now? Hot time in a hot tub.

This is all part of a big promotion for "Youth in Revolt," which hits theaters on Friday. Tune in to MTV tomorrow night for the latest episode of "Jersey Shore" and you'll be treated to movie promos featuring Cera and his New Jersey friends.

Yesterday, you got to watch as Michael Cera had his hair styled by "Jersey Shore" star Pauly D. Today brings lesson two: fist pumps. Cera, now properly styled and decked out in a new Ed Hardy tee, gets a lesson in how to beat the air with his fist from people who know a thing or two about such things. It's a pretty hilarious scene.

Cera's hang time with the "Jersey Shore" crew is part of a promotion he's doing for "Youth in Revolt," which hits theaters this Friday. You'll be able to see more from Cera and his new pals in commercial breaks during Thursday's night's airing of the latest "Jersey Shore" episode on MTV.

Michael Cera's got a movie coming out this Friday! "Youth in Revolt" is what it's called, a quirky coming-of-age comedy in which the "Arrested Development" star plays a young hipster-to-be who is having a hard time adjusting to his new existence in a trailer park... that is until he meets his attractive neighbor (Portia Doubleday).

To promote the movie, Cera will appear in a number of promos with members of the "Jersey Shore" cast when the reality series airs its new episode on MTV this Thursday. In the clip below, you can see him getting a new hairdo, compliments of "Jersey Shore" resident Pauly D. Trust me... hilarity ensues.

The first week of 2010 brings some great new possibilities for moviegoers who aren't quite ready for their fourth go-round with smash hit "Avatar." Whether you like your blood drunk or spilled, there's plenty of both in the dark new ensemble action/horror vampire flick "Daybreakers," from Michael and Peter Spierig. Ethan Hawke stars as a vampire scientist who rebels against a society ruled by a bloodsucker majority, linking up with a human survivor underground led by Willem Dafoe. It makes sense. Who's gonna argue with a guy who straps a crossbow to his shotgun?

For those who want to take a break from vampires, "Youth in Revolt" is your answer. The quirky comedy follows Nick Twisp, a young hipster-in-training played by Michael Cera. Nick has a hard time adjusting after his family moves to a trailer park... that is until he meets his new neighbor Sheeni (Portia Doubleday). She's everything Nick is looking for; too bad she's got a boyfriend. "Revolt" also features the talents of Jean Smart, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi and Ray Liotta. Read More...

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Michael Cera has had a good streak with his leading ladies over the past few years, turning relative unknowns like Ellen Page and Kat Dennings into superstars (okay, maybe the strength of the movies they were starring in made them stars, but I digress). The most recent starlet to join him on screen is a face you won't recognize from battling mutants or being the grody friend of an ex-Playboy bunny.

Not much information is available about Portia Doubleday, the lucky lady who gets to play the manipulative, dangerous vixen Sheeni in January's "Youth in Revolt," but we at Hollywood Crush are here to give you the scoop. "Youth in Revolt" is the 21-year-old actress's first feature film — her other film credits include headlining the 2009 film "18" and starring as "Young Margaret" in 1997's " Legend of the Mummy."
