Woody HarrelsonSpend any time with Woody Harrelson and you quickly realize that he’s one of the sharpest tools in the Hollywood woodshed, a man passionate and educated about a variety of topics.

So how did it happen that he spent so much time in his career playing Class A idiots?

Probably cause he’s good at it, of course. But maybe there’s something else to it?

“Savvy is never a term that’s been used on,” Harrelson chuckled recently, talking about his new project, “Transsiberian,” where he plays, you guessed it, another guy who has the lights on but nobody home.

Woody HarrelsonReading about Wesley Snipes' recent troubles with the government, which culminated in April when the veteran actor was sentenced to three years in prison for willful failure to file federal income tax returns, fills me, I painfully admit, with a certain sense of schadenfreude.

But for longtime pal Woody Harrelson, Snipes' conviction is absolutely nothing to smile about, calling his buddy "one of the greatest guys I know."

"He came up against a very unjust system. Hopefully, he never has to go to jail because I really don't think he deserves it," Harrelson said of his four time co-star ("Wildcats," "Play it to the Bone," "Money Train," and most famously, "White Men Can't Jump"). "Hopefully, he comes out of it well." Read More...

Woody HarrelsonIt's the end of the world as he knows it, and Woody Harrelson feels just fine, the veteran actor laughed, revealing exclusively to MTV News that he has a starring role in Roland Emmerich's apocalyptic "2012," which he will begin shooting shortly in Vancouver.

"I don't know why they thought of me," Harrelson chuckled. "But I like the idea."

It's an idea that we have thanks to the Mayans, who predicted the world would end on December 21, 2012, taking with it everything we know and love up to and including time itself. That means earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, the end of days. Believe it, said Harrelson - even if in no one else does, confessing that his character is a sort of modern version of the Greek Cassandra, a prophet nobody believes. Read More...

Woody HarrelsonIt's a good time to be Woody Harrelson these days. After a starring turn in this year's Best Picture winner, the veteran actor has no less than nine films in various stages of development.

But perhaps no movie has fans talking more than the one he isn't even officially attached to...yet.

"I haven't heard anything since I talked to you last," Harrelson said when we pestered him again for details on "The A-Team" movie, in which he's rumored to star as Murdock (click here to see our first time around). "It's still one of those question marks." Read More...

Woody Harrelson in Transsiberian
Article by Alyssa Vitrano

On the Line: One of the great things about seeing a movie at Sundance is that you haven't seen a trailer that gives away 80% of the movie. And since I saw Transsiberian early on, I hadn't even heard much buzz about it yet. All I knew was that Woody Harrelson was in it and, after skimming an email I'd gotten about it, also knew it was a thriller that took place on a train that travelled from Beijing to Moscow. Sounded like it could be cool. Read More...
