FROM SPLASH PAGE: We recently brought you the news that Dylan Baker will reprise his role as Dr. Curt Connors in "Spider-Man 4," heralding some hope that The Lizard could finally make his long-awaited debut as Peter Parker's newest nemesis. But let's not forget some of Spidey's other contenders, like the Green Goblin.

While the villain might thrive on the bright lights of Broadway courtesy of Alan Cumming, original Green Goblin actor Willem Dafoe's future involvement in the Sam Raimi-directed franchise isn't exactly a certainty—in fact, Dafoe himself still doesn't know whether he'll appear in future "Spider-Man" movies.

"Let's put it this way — no one's called," the actor told MTV News in a recent interview

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Before "The Dark Knight," many fans wondered how Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker in Tim Burton's "Batman" could ever be topped, least of all by the seemingly unnatural choice of Heath Ledger. But if you believe one certain rumor, Nicholson almost lost the part to another actor—none other than Willem Dafoe.

Dafoe's IMDB page harbors a curious bit of "trivia," which states that the actor was considered for the Clown Prince of Crime in the Burton-directed "Batman." MTV News went straight to Dafoe for official word on the rumor, and while the actor said he was never considered for the Joker role, he did have an early attachment to the 1989 film.

"Very early, they talked to me about playing Batman," Dafoe told MTV News.

In one fell swoop, my opinion of "Daybreakers" has shifted from "mildly interested" to "holy wow I want to see this now." Okay fine. I was more than mildly interested. The cast, which includes Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill is exciting on its own. And the poster we revealed a few weeks ago, featuring what appears to be a blood farm, is undeniably cool.

But the images we have for you today, part of an MTV Movies Blog week filled with awesome exclusives, seal the deal. Particularly the one you can see a snippet of right here: Willem Dafoe wielding a shotgun/crossbow and giving you the crazy eye. Kickass. The story follows a renegade group of vampires trying to restore humanity to a blood-sucker ruled world. January 8, 2010 seems very far away right now... Read more...

This week, (limited) audiences will finally get to see what all the fuss was at this year's Cannes over director Lars Von Trier's art-horror flick, "Antichrist." The unconventional tale of a husband and wife who try to cope with the tragic loss of their son by hiding out in the woods takes a dark turn as the unnamed man's (Willem Dafoe) attempts to psychoanalyze his unnamed wife (Charlotte Gainsbourg) elicit a violent response. I don't want to spoil anything, but it is worth noting that the term "genital mutilation" has been thrown around to describe just a few of the horrors you'll witness as the story reaches its endgame.

MTV's Josh Horowitz had the opportunity recently to speak with Dafoe, who was more than happy to discuss the experience of working with Von Trier. As one of the founders of the Dogme 95 movement -- a style of filmmaking defined by a lengthy manifesto -- Von Trier is a unique soul among his fellow artists. He called himself "the world's greatest director" at Cannes this year, railing against those critics who panned "Antichrist." Read more...

Willem Dafoe is a special man—a man deserving, like Tracy Morgan, of his own Oh Please Join Twitter campaign—and anything he has to say is intriguing to me. And it's especially intriguing if what he's talking about is "John Carter of Mars," Edgar Rice Burroughs' sci-fi series currently getting the big screen adaptation treatment from Pixar eye-candy guru Andrew Stanton ("WALL-E").

With shooting set to start in January, Dafoe's gearing up to play Tars Tarkas, a many-limbed green Martian warrior who befriends Carter (Taylor Kitsch) after he gets mysteriously transported from Civil War-era America to the Red Planet. And after getting a chance to see early takes on what his character will look like, Dafoe is pumped. Read more...

Looking at this poster, you might think it's a scene out of "The Matrix." You'd be wrong though. "Daybreakers" is a vampire flick that hits theaters on January 8, 2010. This is no "Twilight" though. "Daybreakers"' vampires live for human blood, none of that "vegetarian" nonsense. And that's what you see in the poster revealed after the jump: a vampire-run blood farm.

The story is set in 2019, a dystopian future Earth which has been ravaged by a living plague that turns the human population into vampires. The story follows a rebel group among the vampires, blood-suckers who want a return to the human condition. If the story isn't enough to snare you, take a look at the cast: Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill all star. Peep the new poster, revealed exclusively on MTV.com, after the jump. Read more...

Unfortunately for you squeamish readers, the same can't be said for the movie. Director Lars Von Trier has been very outspoken about his art-horror film "Antichrist," going as far as declaring himself "the world's greatest director" at Cannes this year. It's a slow, simmering build to the violence, extremely graphic violence, making it all the more shocking when the plot takes its nasty turn.

The story follows an unnamed husband and wife -- Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg -- who hide away in their remote cabin in the woods shortly after the accidental death of their toddler. He, as Dafoe's character is called, is a psychoanalyst who attempts to help his wife get through the difficult moment by forcing her to face her fears. Things get progressively creepier until a late-game explosion of violence brings things to a close with a brief, agonizing roller coaster ride. In the exclusive image after the jump, you can see Von Trier standing with a smiling Gainsbourg, an expression she doesn't wear much in the film. Read more...

RainLots of variety from Variety today. See what I did there? Yeah? Long day. Almost over. Enjoy the Dailies.

-- "School of Rock" writer Mike White sold the script for his "Babe in the Woods," an action-comedy in which a new student at Yale University somehow becomes the target of the New Jersey mob. I envision this as a cross between "PCU" and "The Sopranos." (Variety)

-- The announcement that Steven Spielberg's next project would be an adaptation of the Jimmy Stewart classic "Harvey" led many to speculate that Spielberg pal Tom Hanks would step into -- or at least be approached for -- the Stewart role. Fox hasn't exactly put those possibilities to rest, but they did issue a statement saying that the actor "has not read the script and speculation about him and this project has been inaccurate." So there you have it. (Variety) Read more...

Willem DafoeI think it's safe to say that everyone here at the MTV Movies Blog is pretty darn excited about Disney's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter of Mars." The book is a sci-fi classic and the adaptation has Pixar's Andrew Stanton at the helm. It's an epic romance, and it's starring up-and-comers Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins. Now you have another reason to be excited about Stanton's adaptation, as the legendary Willem Dafoe has been cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe is set to play Tars Tarkas. Tarkas is a great Martian warrior and leader, a member of a fairly brutal Martian society called the Tharks-- think Spartans, only with even less of a sense of humor. Read more...

Isabel LucasIt’s a vampire movie, the lead character is named Edward and it arrives in theaters this winter. Um no, not that one. But hey Twilighters... maybe we should keep an eye on this “Daybreakers” movie too, don’t ya think?

Starring Ethan Hawke (as Edward), Willem Dafoe, Sam Neil and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallenbreakout Isabel Lucas, "Daybreakers" sounds like a less romantic, bloodier alternative to the "Twilight" craze. Lucas, an Australian native, sat down with MTV recently to spill the beans on the vampire flick’s hot new trailer, and how the flick is aiming to draw new blood out of the crowded genre. Read more...
