Kristen Stewart Says Filming Jack Kerouac's 'On The Road' Was A 'Wild' Ride

"Breaking Dawn" is gearing up for production right now, but its leading lady Kristen Stewart is involved in another literary adaptation that's getting its own share of buzz. During her off time from "Twilight," Stewart filmed a big screen version of Jack Kerouac's Beat Generation classic "On The Road," helmed by "The Motorcycle Diaries" director Walter Salles.

While promoting her latest indie, "Welcome to the Rileys," Stewart told MTV that throughout the filming of "On The Road" she never was able to shake her nervousness at adapting such a well-regarded book. "I would turn around in the car like every single day and show Walter my hand and it would be like [shaking] and he'd be like, 'Good, that it is how I want you to be'," she said. 'Welcome To The Rileys' International Trailer: Kristen Stewart Strips, Finds A Home With James Gandolfini

Kristen Stewart in Welcome to the RileysIt's a tale as old as time. A distraught man fighting to keep his marriage together after the death of his child runs away to New Orleans, meets a stripper and begins treating her like the daughter he lost. And from there, emotions run high.

In the newly released international trailer for the Kristen Stewart drama "Welcome to the Rileys" -- which also stars James Gandolfini as the aforementioned distraught man, Doug Riley, and Melissa Leo as his equally struggling wife -- fans get a taste of the drama that unfolds when lost souls try to connect emotionally. The trailer does prove two things: When she's not working with a "Twilight" script, Stewart has some keen acting skills... and she's also not afraid to bare a little skin when the material calls for it (she does play a stripper, after all). Fall Movie Season Is Gearing Up: What Are You Most Looking Forward To?

With Labor Day safely behind us, weekly movie releases can now officially be considered as part of the fall slate. Yes, yes... fall technically starts on September 22. Screw that noise though. Summer blockbusters are done. So begins the race for the Golden Globes, the Academy Awards and all of the other many prestigious awards that will be handed out in the coming months.

What are you most looking forward to seeing? "TRON: Legacy"? "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"? "The Social Network"? Please let us know. I'm going to use this opportunity to run through 10 upcoming fall releases that don't necessarily number among the major tentpoles. Why You Should Care: If you're a "Twilight" fan, the words "Kristen Stewart" ought to be enough to sell a movie ticket. And for anyone else, this Sundance darling is actually supposed to be quite good.

'Welcome To The Rileys' Is A 'Really, Really Good Story' For 'Twilight' Fans, Kristen Stewart Says

FROM MTV.COM: To hear Kristen Stewart talk about her role as an underage stripper in "Welcome to the Rileys" is to understand the way in which the character continues to live in the actress' mind and affect her emotionally. For all the attention she's garnered for the "Twilight" series, the 19-year-old actress maintains that her experience on "Rileys" stands out as both the most personal and most natural of her career.

"This ... was different from any movie that I've done," she told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival. "How do you describe a feeling? I don't know. It just felt so completely right to be telling this story with [director Jake Scott] and [Melissa Leo] and Jim [Gandolfini], and that's different to any acting I've ever done."

Kristen Stewart Ducks For Cover In MTV's Sundance Photo Booth

We've already mentioned that "Twilight" superstar Kristen Stewart is the belle of the ball here at Sundance, where the teen actress has no less than two films appearing: a dramatic turn as an underage stripper in "Welcome to the Rileys" and the rock-fueled "The Runaways."

Naturally Stewart swung by the MTV studio for a few interviews, and in-between her hectic schedule she found time to snap a self-portrait in the MTV Photo Booth. Sundance Review: Kristen Stewart's 'Welcome To The Rileys'

Kristen Stewart in 'Welcome to the Rileys'Kristen Stewart is utterly fearless in "Welcome to the Rileys." That's the takeaway from the film's world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday afternoon. You can quibble all you want with her portrayal of a 16-year-old runaway turned stripper and prostitute. But you cannot walk away from a viewing and say the actress doesn't fearlessly expose herself physically and emotionally, and doesn't do so with astonishing maturity and believability.

Working the lap dance rooms and seedy motels of New Orleans, Stewart's character (real name Allison, working girl name Mallory and many others) is a damaged runaway with a filthy mouth and an even filthier idea of how to make money. There is little sexy about this teen, as she's prayed on by faceless men; the camera catches every pimple, every dark circle under her eye, every strand of stringy hair that has seen far too much strip club cigarette smoke and not enough shampoo (and no, she does not once get naked). Her life is going nowhere until a plumbing supply salesman named Doug Reily (James Gandolfini) shows up and takes Allison under his wing. Read More...

Sundance Star Kristen Stewart Says Her Stripper Turn Isn't Really That Shocking

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Kristen Stewart's punk role in "The Runaways" isn't her only showing at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. She's also appearing in "Welcome to the Rileys," which sees the "Twilight" star as a troubled young stripper named Mallory who becomes a surrogate daughter to a grieving father played by "Sopranos" kingpin James Gandolfini. So naturally, we were curious whether Stewart thought her darker turn will surprise or shock her Twilighter fanbase.

As it turns out, Stewart says the most shocking part of her role is that it's really not that shocking.

Where Can You See 'Twlight' Stars In 2010?

FROM MTV.COM: While the "Twilight Saga" may be giving us some of the biggest blockbusters of its time, most of the series' stars are indie actors at heart. It's no surprise, then, that this week's Sundance Film Festival will unveil three highly anticipated films for Twilighters: "The Runaways," "Welcome to the Rileys" and "Skateland."

In 2010, however, that's just the tip of the iceberg. From blockbusters to indies, quirky love stories to serious dramas, the "Twilight" gang is branching out. Kristen Stewart's 'Welcome To The Rileys' Role Is Only The Latest Fictional Stripper In Hollywood

With pictures of Kristen Stewart as a stripper in the upcoming Sundance player "Welcome to the Rileys" hitting the Internet last week, we decided to take a look back at five Hollywood actresses who starred as a stripper in the past, and how the decision impacted their careers. Some were launched into success stories, while others took a sharp downward turn. Hopefully, Stewart will take some pointers from those who came before her and avoid squashing the success "The Twilight Saga" has given her. If that's even possible.

One unusual fact that's worth noting: three of the five names on this list -- Demi Moore, Lindsay Lohan and Heather Graham -- all followed up their stripper appearances with roles in the Emilio Estevez-directed film, "Bobby." It's hard to say what that means, though three counts as a trend. Apparently, fake stripping drives female actors to Emilio Estevez. Go figure.
