Kurt Loder compiled over 200 of his favorite movie reviews in his new book "The Good, the Bad and the Godawful," but that doesn't mean that he still necessarily stands by them.

The former MTV.com movie reviewer recently sat down for a chat to promote the book, currently in stores. Though he didn't change his opinions in the reviews since he wrote them, Loder did admit that his personal opinions of some of the biggest films of the past decade have changed with time. Let's just say he might regret a thing or two he said about "The Dark Knight" when it was first released.

"I've definitely changed my mind about 'The Dark Knight,' which I was not really impressed with and now I think is one of the great movies. Just a great, great movie," he said.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Back in March, comedian Patton Oswalt had some fantastically expletive-filled words for "Watchmen" haters, those frothing fanboys and armchair critics who began to trash the movie before they'd even seen Zack Snyder's big screen adaptation of the Holy Bible of graphic novel geekery.

As the year in movies comes to a close and awards season ramps up, we caught up with Oswalt on the red carpet at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. We wanted to know if, almost nine months later, the actor and sometime comic book writer had any more thoughts about one of the biggest comic adaptations of the year.

Maybe it's just that my search skills aren't up to snuff today, but there's not a lot of stuff popping Around the Blogosphere at the moment. I suspect it has something to do with the post Comic-Con comedown. As fun as these events can be, they're also incredibly draining. Especially if you're looking at a schedule crammed with appointments and panels from sunup to sundown. When do the writers write, you ask? In transit and in lieu of bed!

FROM SPLASH PAGE: The "Watchmen" Director's Cut DVD hits shelves this week, capping a limited-release run in theaters, and now that we're at the mid-point of 2009 it's hard not to look back on the film a little more fondly. With few blockbuster-level comic book films on the immediate horizon and mixed reactions to the last one ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine") comic fans might feel an understandable urge to revisit Zack Snyder's adaptation of the epic Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons series.

Along with 25 minutes of extra footage (and significantly more violence and gore, according to Snyder), the "director's cut of "Watchmen" will also offer a host of behind-the-scenes clips and making-of video moments -- including the following "The Unfilmable Is Filmed" featurette that puts the vast scope of the project in the spotlight:

I've been feeding you readers a pretty constant stream of overly expensive (or sometimes just questionable) items in my daily eBay Prop-Watch postings. Today I'm veering off in a little bit of a different direction: the selection is affordable and very clearly not a prop. It is a cool, fan-serving little piece of ephemera though.

Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" is not a terrific adaptation of Alan Moore's classic graphic novel. It is far better than a lot of people gave it credit for, but the plot becomes unhinged towards the end thanks to the liberal changes made to the story. It's impressive really, how the alterations maintain a surprising level of narrative accuracy while completely abandoning the tone and themes in Moore's original. That said, "Watchmen" is a beautiful film, and an exceedingly entertaining viewing experience for a spectacle junkie like me. Read more...

It’s the bold news that all of Hollywood is still buzzing about, as well as weighing its implications: 10 movies will be nominated for Best Picture at the next Oscars, double the usual amount. But when I caught up with Zack Snyder this week, he had yet to hear the news.

“10?” marveled the “Watchmen” and “300” director, who had been tied up all day doing interviews for those films’ upcoming Blu-Ray releases. “No way!”

Yes way. And, since we had the unique opportunity to break the news to one of Hollywood’s top filmmakers, we were also able to get his unfiltered thoughts as he processed the Academy’s bold decision – and what it meant for his profession. Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Jackie Earle Haley has made quite the on-screen comeback starring as Rorschach in “Watchmen” and as Freddy Krueger in “Nightmare on Elm Street,” so it only makes sense to wonder — what’s he doing on television?

To be fair, Haley’s small screen arrival comes in the form of “Human Target,” the new Fox series based on the DC comic book. Still, as some see network television as less reputable than film work, Haley’s decision to star in the show might appear questionable. Apparently, it’s not a notion lost on the actor himself.

There are many cool things about my job, but today I saw a rare convergence of three of them: The friends, the exclusives, and the access.

It occurred after weeks of watching the Facebook status updates by many of the wonderful Twilighters who’ve become my buddies over the last year-and-a-half, counting down the days to the March 21st release of the “Twilight” DVD. In the mail was a beta tape with exclusive featurettes - and one of those bonus features brought back great memories from the craziest fan-driven moment I’ve ever witnessed.
