FROM SPLASH PAGE: How do you make a sequel to a movie in which almost every main character winds up dead? According to one report from a Russian news outlet, “Wanted” director Timur Bekmabetov plans to answer that very question by bringing back Angelina Jolie and possibly others in the next installment.
Bekmabetov told RIA Novosti, a Russian news site, that he’s already begun preparations for “Wanted 2,” a sequel to the 2008 actioneer based on Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ comic book. According to the site, the director promised the return of Jolie, despite her character’s send-off in the first movie.

I bet you thought I forgot about yesterday's category previews. That wasn't what happened though; time just got away from me. Lot of major developments yesterday on the 2009 MTV Movie Awards front. The big news for you Twilighters of course was the revelation that the "New Moon" clip premiering this Sunday will actually be the movie's debut trailer. There was also the revelation that there's still a to-be-announced mystery presenter, as well as the launch of our awards countdown widget, which will magically transform into a streaming video of the show when the clock strikes zero at 9pm EST this Sunday.
In short: it was a busy day. Here I am though, fresh and ready to tackle today's load of crazy. What better way to start than with a round-up of yesterday's previewed categories, along with a few predictions on the same. As always, I welcome your thoughts on my choices, your own choices or anything under the sun really in our comments section below. Read more...

When the “G.I. Joe” live-action movie finally got a greenlight after more than a decade in development, fans of the series seemed to have two main concerns: That they’d mess up the look of the beloved characters, and that Marlon Wayans would be cracking too many jokes. And while I haven’t got much evidence to shoot down that first fear, I can tell you when we recently caught up with Marlon, he insisted that “The Rise of Cobra” kept his “Little Man” hijinks in check.
“The movie is serious, action and some comedy - but not all comedy,” insisted the star, who will bring an extremely different look to the High Altitude Low Opening jumper in the August 7th flick. “You pull off the reigns; I did what was appropriate for the role and for the character.” Read more...
FROM SPLASH PAGE: What do "Batman," "Superman," "Akira," "Hellboy," "The Hulk," "Iron Man," "The Punisher," "Spider-Man," "The Spirit," "Dragonball," "Wanted," "X-Men" and "Watchmen" all have in common? Easy!
It's no secret that the comic-to-movie translation can be hit or miss. On one hand, you have someone like the Punisher — one of the most intense, complex and dark characters ever created in the comic book universe — so you would have thought his story and swagger alone would be enough to make a great action movie with maybe even a good sequel. Apparently not! The movie studios messed up that franchise not once ... not twice ... but three times (once with Dolph Lundgren, then Thomas Jane and most recently with some guy called Ray Stevenson).

FROM SPLASH PAGE: When "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan first helped bring to life the ultra-violent story about a world where supervillains had kicked out the good guys, he had some pretty impressive source material in Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' critically praised graphic novel. While there won't be the same ready-made reference for "Wanted 2," the writer told MTV that shouldn't be cause for concern among fans. And he should know, since he's the one writing it.
"Yes, I will be writing it," confirmed Morgan. "I'm actually leaving this conversation with you to go to a meeting with the director, Timur [Bekmambetov], and we're talking about the story."
