Wanted 2FROM SPLASH PAGE: How do you make a sequel to a movie in which almost every main character winds up dead? According to one report from a Russian news outlet, “Wanted” director Timur Bekmabetov plans to answer that very question by bringing back Angelina Jolie and possibly others in the next installment.

Bekmabetov told RIA Novosti, a Russian news site, that he’s already begun preparations for “Wanted 2,” a sequel to the 2008 actioneer based on Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ comic book. According to the site, the director promised the return of Jolie, despite her character’s send-off in the first movie.

Wanted 2FROM SPLASH PAGE: When "Wanted" proved to be a surprising financial success, it was clear that moviegoers wanted more. But with Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' graphic novel limited in issues, it's hard to identify source material that could be mined for a sequel. But, as we learned from "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan last year, that wasn't going to hinder a return to the story's supervillain-filled world.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Spiliotopoulos, co-writer of "Pooh's Heffalump Movie," has been pegged as the screenwriter for "Wanted 2." The sequel's script stems from a story idea by Morgan, previously tapped to be penning the sequel.

CommonFROM SPLASH PAGE: His day job has made Common a hit with the critics and kept him at the top of the charts over the last several years -- a trend that seems likely to continue as his eagerly-anticipated “Universal Mind Control” hits stores today. But moviegoers have had their own epiphany while enjoying his soulful presence in “Smokin’ Aces,” “Street Kings” and “American Gangster,” and the Chicago-born rapper is holding out hope that his most recent gig might give him his first film franchise.

Terrence Stamp told us awhile back that his character was written in specifically for sequel purposes, and screenwriter Chris Morgan has been hired to write "Wanted 2." But, after Angelina Jolie offered her own input into the conclusion of “Wanted,” the franchise seems to have painted itself into a corner.

SPOILER ALERT: Want to know why? Keep reading.

James McAvoy in 'Wanted'FROM SPLASH PAGE: When "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan first helped bring to life the ultra-violent story about a world where supervillains had kicked out the good guys, he had some pretty impressive source material in Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' critically praised graphic novel. While there won't be the same ready-made reference for "Wanted 2," the writer told MTV that shouldn't be cause for concern among fans. And he should know, since he's the one writing it.

"Yes, I will be writing it," confirmed Morgan. "I'm actually leaving this conversation with you to go to a meeting with the director, Timur [Bekmambetov], and we're talking about the story."
