Judd ApatowIn case you haven't been able to tell from the omnipresent marketing campaign there's a biopic out now as much in the vein of "Knocked Up" as "Coal Miner's Daughter." The movie of course is "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" and it should be no surprise that it sprang in part from the mind behind "Knocked Up," the great Judd Apatow.

Judd's written for us a bunch before and he's back now with a cool little column all about the making of "Walk Hard" and formative concert experiences that shaped him.

Here's Judd on his first concert, "the Doobie Brothers. I was in eighth grade. I could not have loved it more. The Minute by Minute tour hit the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York. I had such a good time that I went to see another concert just a few months later. It was the Doobie Brothers returning to the Nassau Coliseum."

Don't forget to check out the rest of Judd Apatow's "Walk Hard" column here.

As Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch receptionist Pam Beesly on "The Office," Jenna Fischer certainly knows from paper. Pretty soon she's gonna need a whole ream of the good stuff, the 34-year-old actress excitedly revealed to MTV News. Read more...

Of all the cameos in "Walk Hard" – Jack White as Elvis, Paul Rudd as John Lennon, Frankie Muniz as Buddy Holly – one brief, scene stealing appearance stands tall above the rest.

"I know what you're going to say, you want to talk about Cox. And not just Dewey Cox," John C. Reilly laughed when we spoke to him about coming face to face in the film with "Sly and the Family Stones." "MTV viewers are going to love Cox. They are, if they don’t already. It’s C-O-X that I'm saying when I say Cox, by the way, for the censors that are watching."

Well, no, Mr. Reilly, not exactly (although we appreciate the effort). And while we’re prohibited from actually spelling out the word you’re talking about, suffice it to say that it doesn’t end in an X. Read more...

Jack WhiteReporting by Brandy Schaefer

"Every actor wants to be a rock star, every rock star want to be an actor," John C. Reilly told a group of reporters recently at a "Walk Hard" Q&A.

Of course, nobody expects them to be better at their new job.

"F--k him, what is that? Stepping on MY territory!" writer and producer Judd Apatow joked of Whites Stripes frontman Jack White's performance as Elvis in the musical spoof. "I found [him] irritating because he's like the coolest guy on Earth, and the greatest rock musician, and writer, and performer you've ever seen – and ALSO funny? He could do what we do just in his sleep - as an afterthought." Read more...

John C. Reilly in 'Walk Hard'If taglines are any indication of how funny a movie will be, than you might want to start counting down the days until "Walk Hard," whose new poster brags: "Life made him tough/Love made him strong/Music made him hard."

"It's pretty breezy and quick, but it'll feel like a large meal hopefully," director Jake Kasden ("Zero Effect") told us this week about his latest cut of the upcoming biopic spoof. "It's not that long. A little over an hour and a half. Apatow likes the two hour comedies, but I like them 90 minutes, so it'll be somewhere in between."

Judging by the hilarious trailer (watch it at the bottom) -- and a plot that has John C. Reilly playing a Johnny Cash-like rocker opposite Jenna Fischer, Kristen Wiig and Paul Rudd -- we say give Mr. Apatow whatever he wants. "We're doing a couple of pick-up days," Kasden said of some recent re-shoots. "We're rounding it out, filling in some holes." Read more...

Jake KasdanI was a big fan of the much underappreciated (and virtually ignored) comedy "The TV Set" when it came out earlier this year. Starring David Duchovny as a TV series creator facing a series of vexing career dilemma as his pilot negotiates the "creative" process in Hollywood, it's a fine effort by director Jake Kasdan (set to make the leap to the big time next with the holiday comedy, "Walk Hard").

With "The TV Set" newly released on DVD, I spoke with Kasdan about the sadly small release his flick received, his leading man, and why his dad won't spill the beans on Indiana Jones.

James BondOur links of the day are For your Eyes Only, back with, yes, news on the latest James Bond film. That and Spike Lee, "Walk Hard," "Friday the 13th" and more below.

- Derek Luke nabs lead role in Spike Lee’s "Miracle at St. Anna" about all-black regiment during WWII. (Variety)

- Look to the cookie: Hilary Duff, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Murphy to star in interracial romance "Greta." (Hollywood Reporter)

- Bond 22 to film in Panama. (MI6)

- "Freddy vs. Jason" scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift tapped to write "Friday the 13th" remake. (Hollywood Reporter)

- We can never get enough Dewey Cox...take a look at the first "Walk Hard" poster. (Cinematical)

- William H. Macy joins high school comedy "Bart Got a Room." (Variety)

As word started to spill out about the upcoming Judd Apatow produced comedy, "Walk Hard," we were mighty intrigued. A comedy riff on the recent spate of big screen music biopics? We're there! John C. Reilly singing in his own voice as the fictional Dewey Cox? Yes! "The Office" star Jenna Fischer as his leading lady? Sold! Judd Apatow wrote all about it in a recent column for MTV.

Anyway, this project just gets cooler and cooler. How cool? How about White Stripes frontman Jack White portraying Elvis Presley? White chatted all about the role with us the other day, laughing as he said "my whole life I've been doing research." Check out more in the video below.

Not since Mel Brooks in the late 60's/early 70's has a comedic writer/director/producer been on a roll quite like what Judd Apatow is engineering at this present time. Between "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Talladega Nights", next month's hilarious "Knocked Up" and the outrageous August sleeper "Superbad", everything this guy touches is turning into an instant classic. That's why we were psyched to get some exclusive news on the music for "Walk Hard", a recently-wrapped biopic spoof featuring "The Office" star Jenna Fischer and a "Talladega" shake-and-baker.

"I just shot a movie with John C. Reilly, that I wrote with Jake Kasdan, who directed the movie," Apatow said of the flick he's producing with the critically-beloved "Zero Effect" director behind the camera. "It's called 'Walk Hard,' and it's a goof on movies like 'Ray' and 'Walk the Line'. [Reilly] plays Dewey Cox, who has had a very long career, and has been addicted to many drugs and gone to rehab many times." Read more...
