I sure do love waking up to video game adaptation news, especially when it's as exciting as the latest update. For anyone who owns a PlayStation 3, one of the few must-own titles is undoubtedly "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" (and now its sequel, "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves"). Great game, in the running-and-jumping-and-climbing-and-shooting vein of the "Tomb Raider" series, with amazing graphics and an overall presentation which feels pulled straight from a Hollywood blockbuster. The story is pure popcorn, with an "Indiana Jones" kind of vibe, a plucky female sidekick and a gang of villains pulled straight from central casting.

News broke over the summer that Sony would be guiding "Uncharted" to a big screen adaptation, with "Hitman 2" (another, as-yet-unreleased game adaptation) writer Kyle Ward delivering a script. Avi AradEvery video game adaptation that's put on the path to the big screen leaves you hoping that this will be the one to break the crappy gaming movie curse ("The Wizard" notwithstanding). While my hope remains pinned on Mike Newell's upcoming "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," there may also be hope in the form of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia is developing a live-action adaptation of "Fortune." Kyle Ward is to pen the script; if the name sounds familiar, that's because he was mentioned here just yesterday in association with the upcoming "Hitman 2." No director has been set, but Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner are producing. Read more...
