The Emmy Awards prevailed over football yesterday in the Twitter-Wood feed. I'm just sorry that John Hodgman's posted pic with comic book writer and "Lost" writer staff alumnus Brian K. Vaughan was too dark to make Twitter Pic of the Day. Instead, Kim Kardashian moved up into first place for that honor with her behind-the-scenes look at what happens when you rip your dress at the Emmy's.

On down the list, Rainn Wilson, Diablo Cody and Steve Agee pondered how hitch a ride on Tyler Perry's successful Madea movies. To find out what Wilson wants to do and see when Peter Facinelli will be reporting back for duty on the "Eclipse" set, read their tweets for yourself. They're all below in the Twitter-Wood report for September 21, 2009. Read more...

They're not the only two releases on the plate this week, but they're the two which are most likely to divide audiences. Shane Acker's "9" has been something of a staple on MTV Movies Blog these past few months. I caught a screening over the summer and very much enjoyed what I saw.

Produced by Tim Burton and "Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov, "9" is set in a stitchpunk dystopian future in which humans have been eradicated. All that remains are robotic contraptions and little beings made of sackcloth. It's a short movie -- roughly 75 minutes -- but it gets in, tells a compelling story and then gets out with exceptional economy. You won't be left with many questions when the credits roll even though there's a relative absence of heavy exposition. In summation, "9" is short and sweet. Check out our coverage of "9" all this week on MTV Splash Page for exclusive clips, images and interviews. Read more...

'Star Trek'Newcomers may not realize it, but the "Star Trek" franchise is rife with some truly bizarre casting choices, particularly within the film series. Kirstie Alley, John Larroquette, Alan Ruck, Kim Cattrall, F. Murray Abraham… lots of folks you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see popping up in a sci-fi feature, particularly one with "Trek’s" devoted fanbase.

J.J. Abrams’ just-released "Star Trek" continues on in the same tradition, with a number of the director’s friends and colleagues appearing in various extraneous roles. Read more...

Mary J. BligeTyler Perry wastes no time counting his box office earnings, or contemplating deals. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he's already begun shooting "I Can Do Bad All By Myself", mere weeks after Perry and Lionsgate decided it would be his next film.

Obviously, Madea alone does not a film make, so Perry has brought Mary J. Blige on board to keep the already cast Taraji P. Henson company. (It takes Grammy wins and Oscar nominations to share the screen with Madea these days!) Blige will be playing a nightclub manager and singer, which means she'll probably land some of the musical numbers featured in Perry's original play. Read more...

Tyler Perry in 'Madea Goes to Jail'Tyler Perry fans, you can now mark your schedules. Thanks to "Madea Goes to Jail" being a smash success, Perry and Lionsgate are wasting no time deciding what the one man movie factory would do next. The studio and their favorite son just announced the filmmaker's next two films and their release dates. Perry doesn't rest -- and he's even willing to immediately don the Madea suit, despite jokes that he planned to kill her off.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Perry's next film will be "Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself", which is based on his play of the same name. Taraji P. Henson, fresh off her Oscar nomination for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" will costar, and Perry's Madea will make an appearence. Read more...
