The faces of the Twitter-Wood feed let their maple leaves fly high today for Canada Day, with William Shatner and “Twilight” actress Rachelle Lefevre among those wearing Canadian pride on their tweets. Their home and native land must have felt very loved.
The American Twitter delegation was busy as well, though, with Diablo Cody contemplating a Billy Idol-ish makeover. Chiming in with advice was none other than Andy Milonakis. Click on downward and you’ll find their exchange, some “Twilight”-style vampire baseball for charity being played, and a tweet from Steven Spielberg’s to-do list in the Twitter-Wood report for July 1, 2009. When the late afternoon hours hit here at MTV, we get a little bit feisty. Shouted insults and random bouts of profanity are the norm, but there are rare occasions where the shenanigans rise to the level of becoming post-worthy.
Today is one such day. A big box of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” swag came in the mail and we got a little silly with it. If you’re a Twilighter, you will like this image. If you’re a “Harry Potter” fan, you will like this image. If you hate fun… well, you probably won’t like this image. But fun is FUN! Don’t hate it! Continue below the jump to see just how we convinced RPattz to don his wizard’s robe for another term at Hogwarts… Read more…

It’s a vampire movie, the lead character is named Edward and it arrives in theaters this winter. Um no, not that one. But hey Twilighters… maybe we should keep an eye on this “Daybreakers” movie too, don’t ya think?
Starring Ethan Hawke (as Edward), Willem Dafoe, Sam Neil and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” breakout Isabel Lucas, “Daybreakers” sounds like a less romantic, bloodier alternative to the “Twilight” craze. Lucas, an Australian native, sat down with MTV recently to spill the beans on the vampire flick’s hot new trailer, and how the flick is aiming to draw new blood out of the crowded genre. Read more…

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled 5-0 today that Al Franken won last year’s Senate election, and it didn’t take long for responses to start popping up in the Twitter-Wood feed, including reactions from Larry King and Graham Linehan. Magician and quick-witted thinker Penn Jillette also brought politics into his tweets, pointing out the relevance of his film “The Aristocrats” in a recent Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision.
The conversations weren’t all political though. Rose McGowan showed off a shot a of the new dog she adopted and Demi Moore posted her own puppy shot of Ashton Kutcher rolling around on the set of his new movie “Five Killers.” Meanwhile, “Twilight” actor Peter Facinelli was just innocently trying on a bikini and Russell Brand kept to what he does best, lacing an apology to his neglected Twitter followers with dog-and-leg-humping imagery. You’ll find all of this and more below in the Twitter-Wood report for June 30, 2009. Read more…

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: You may have thought that “The Runaways” had completed their band’s lineup when they finally cast Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford, but there was still one piece missing — the girl who didn’t become a Runaway: bass player Micki Steele.
Well, reportedly Floria Sigismondi’s biopic has found its bass player … but it won’t be the real life Steele. According to the Latino Review, Alia Shawkat (”Arrested Development”) has joined the band as fictional band member Robin.

This seemingly minor blip of news is going to be very exciting for a lot of you readers. The third movie entry in the “Twilight” series, “Eclipse,” will shoot at Vancouver Film Studios between August 17 and October 31 (Halloween wrap!), ComingSoon reports. The David Slade-directed adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s novel will come from a script by series scribe (and occasional “Dexter” writer) Melissa Rosenberg.
The Halloween wrap is perfectly timed to coincide with what will likely be the start of a massive publicity push leading into the release of “New Moon” on November 20. “Eclipse” is currently set for a June 30, 2010 release, a fact which I’m sure that many of you readers are already well aware of. So mark those calendars if you haven’t already, and prepare for an increasing onslaught of “Eclipse” news as the wheels spin faster and faster. And since you’re here, here’s that “New Moon” trailer one more time:

If, like me, you’re a fan of last year’s Swedish vampire sensation “Let the Right One In,” and you’ve been dreading the Hollywood remake, take comfort in knowing that there might not be reason to worry after all. “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves has been set to script and helm the English-language redo.
While speaking to the LA Times recently, Reeves defended his vision and shared some interesting new information about his personal take on the young vampire love story, about a bullied 12-year-old who falls for the bloodsucking girl next door. “Twilight” this is not, but the comparisons are there to be made nonetheless. FROM MTV.COM: If you’re like many “Twilight” fans, you cherish every word of Stephenie Meyer’s novels, gush each time Robert Pattinson runs his fingers through his hair and celebrate the birthdays of the Cullens as if you’re part of the family. But if you haven’t been to Forks, you’re missing out on a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After all the time that I’ve spent covering the “Twilight” beat for MTV, I was extremely honored to be asked to attend Summer School in Forks: A “Twilight” Symposium, a real-life fan event that allowed Twilighters to attend classes, go to a prom and enjoy field trips around the real-life town that Meyer immortalized by making it home to her beloved characters.

FROM MTV.COM: It’s a beloved moment in the “New Moon” novel, a rare moment of comic relief as Bella Swan attempts to get over her Edward Cullen-induced heartbreak by going on what becomes a three-way date with the love-struck Jacob Black and Mike Newton. Recently, actor Michael Welch made big news by assuring Twilighters that the scene would be in November’s “Twilight” sequel — and now, we’ve got the scoop on the key tweak masterminded by director Chris Weitz.
“I really should’ve checked with someone if this is information I can give away or not,” grinned Welch, the fan favorite who plays puppy dog-like Mike Newton in the blockbuster series. “But, whatever — here we are.”
Welch stopped by the MTV studios to discuss such far-ranging topics as his concern for Robert Pattinson’s safety and the “three-way date,” a scene that has Bella, Mike and Jacob at a movie theater, watching a horror film. But, in the grand tradition of such films as “The Player,” “Bowfinger” and “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” director Weitz is inserting his own mini “movie within a movie” into the mix.
