Tom CruiseIs Tom Cruise ready to lose that lovin' feeling again? Maybe, according to Deadline. The site reports that Cruise has been approached by New Line to have a supporting role in their big-screen adaptation of "Rock of Ages," which would include -- you guessed it -- lots of singing. How can we not love the idea when a young Cruise/Maverick once serenaded us with this?

"Rock of Ages" is Broadway's musical homage to '80s hair bands, and the character Cruise is being asked to play is a bartender who would get to join in with plenty of singing. Considering Cruise has expressed some interest in being in a musical in the past, and is an expert bartender thanks to another of his earlier films, "Cocktail," we don't see why he wouldn't say yes just to have a little fun with the project. And, adding to the list of movies that make him qualified for the gig, Cruise also proved he's still got some moves in 2008's "Tropic Thunder" (and at this year's MTV Movie Awards). Read More...

We here at MTV News take journalism seriously. That's why Josh Horowitz has always been nothing but the consummate professional during the shoots for our star-studded "After Hours" series. When Steve Carell sat on Josh's lap for an interview, Josh politely welcomed it. When Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg threatened him with knives, he (fearfully) let it slide. When he got caught on an escalator with M. Night Shyamalan and clothing-averse Penthouse Pet Ryan Keeley, he looked Keeley in the chest and told her it would be alright. And, when a pedicab ride with Malin Akerman got uncomfortable, he refused to hurl himself from the speeding vehicle.

But nothing could have prepared Josh -- or you, the viewers -- for his encounter with "Tropic Thunder" and "Your Highness" star Danny McBride during the latest "After Hours" special, "Impressions." What began as a friendly discussion about painting quickly spiraled out of control: Wigs came out, pants came off, unspeakable things were spoken... all in the name of journalism and art. Watch the video below (if you dare).

"Tropic Thunder" was great fun. It could have gone either way with the oddball trio at the center of the cast: Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. worked marvelously well together, especially given the colorful characters they were tasked with bringing to life. We're fans of the movie here at MTV, so when Movies managing editor Josh Horowitz spoke with Downey at the "Iron Man 2" junket, he asked for an update on any possible "Tropic Thunder" sequel.

In short, things aren't looking good, at least in the near-term. Who knows what the future will bring? Check out Downey's response below.

In December of 2008, shortly after receiving a Golden Globe nomination for his turn as hirsute studio chief Les Grossman in "Tropic Thunder," Tom Cruise revealed that he and the film's writer/director/star Ben Stiller were kicking around ideas to do another project with the Grossman character.

"Ben and I are always talking about what we can do with Les," Cruise told MTV News at the time. "Do we do some viral video with Les?" Read More...

When the Golden Globe nominations were revealed last week, nothing provoked a bigger reaction than the announcement that Tom Cruise had garnered a nod for his role as Les Grossman in "Tropic Thunder." I had the chance to sit down with Cruise over the weekend (check out our full interview where discussed everything from "Valkyrie" to "The Hills") and of course I had to ask him what the future holds for the character.

He confirmed that "Ben [Stiller] and I are always talking about what we can do with Les." He then wondered aloud, "Do we do some viral video with Les?" Check it out below.

Where do you want to see Les end up? In a viral video or a movie all his own?

Robert Downey Jr. in 'Tropic Thunder'The nominations are in. Now let’s nit-pick, shall we? Actually no, I’m going to begin this season of awards prognostication and analysis (the Globes nominations are after all the unofficial kick-off party) with a wholly positive look at what the Globes did right.

Five things they got right this morning:

-- Here’s to some love for the funniest movie of the year, “Tropic Thunder.” Cruise is a pleasant surprise (though I actually thought he was one of the weaker parts of the film, a little too broad even for a film like this) and Downey is a stroke of genius. It’s a performance that killed the first time and holds up on repeated viewings. And while we’re on the topic of comic turns that needed to be acknowledged, I’m thrilled to see that James Franco make the cut for “Pineapple Express” too. Read More...

'Tropic Thunder'We know all about Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller, about Jack Black and Tom Cruise, but you wanna know who REALLY made “Tropic Thunder” great? Eddie Murphy, Sumner Redstone, and Russell Crowe.

Or that’s what I think, anyway, even though, for his part, screenwriter Justin Theroux isn’t letting loose on who actually gets lampooned in the Hollywood satire, which pits a very method actor against an egomaniacal studio head against a comedian known for fart humor, for starters. Read More...

'Tropic Thunder'This weekend, unless you are one of those few poor souls who are just finally getting around to seeing the "The Dark Knight," chances are the popcorn in your wallet is going to fund a trip to see "Tropic Thunder." Well before you end up in that nicely worn in movie theater seat, here’s a few flicks worth picking up on DVD that without which, "Tropic Thunder" would have been a very quiet storm.

Apocalypse Now (1979) -- The Complete Dossier - Two Disc Special Collector’s Edition
Beyond just the color palate, cinematography, and setting, "Tropic Thunder" first and foremost spoofs every frame of "Apocalypse Now." If you are unfamiliar with this adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness,” somehow you have been missing out on jokes from "Back to The Future II" through "Iron Man." Go watch immediately.
