First there was "Back to the Future," and then "The Matrix," and then, more recently, "Pirates of the Caribbean," where literally the last thing said on screen during the second film was a cliffhanging new plot point. If you've got a successful franchise, why not link the second and third movies, forcing audiences to wait upwards of a year for resolution?
Because it's friggin "lame," "Transformers" director Michael Bay insisted to us at the MTV Movie Awards, telling MTV News that the second go-round with Optimus Prime would be entirely self-contained.
"You know how those sequels they do the second one so you go see the third one? ["Transformers 2”] is it," he said, indicating that "2” would be its own story free from the duel shackles of set-up or resolution. "First one was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let's just say [this] is not a lame sequel." Read more...
He's a fast-rising British actor most recently seen in action-heavy flicks like "Rambo" and "Resident Evil: Extinction." Now, 34-year-old Matthew Marsden may have finally landed the high-profile film that could transform him into a star.
MTV News has learned that Matthew Marsden is the newest addition to Michael Bay's "Transformers 2." He joins a high-powered cast returning for the sequel to last year's blockbuster, including Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese. Marsden joins the super-franchise's sequel with fellow newcomer Rainn Wilson, whose casting was revealed last week by MTV.
Marsden has been cast in the role of "Graham," a character who is part of the British Special Forces. Although the film's plot is being kept under the tightest veils of secrecy, it is known that the flick will depict an even more worldly battle than the first "Transformers" film, and will shoot all over the globe. In the sequel, Graham teams with Duhamel and Tyrese's military characters, joining their efforts as they do battle with the evil Decepticons. Read more...
Say what you will about the implausibility of Michael Bay movies, there's nothing funny about giant robots chasing innocent people around a college campus.
Ok, one thing. Or, rather, one person.
That would be Rainn Wilson, who will have a small role in "Transformers 2," as some kind of professor, "The Office" star revealed exclusively to MTV News during an MTV Sneak Peek Week screening of his new film "The Rocker."
"A professor that turns into a car that turns into a robot," he laughed. Read more...
Recently, the news broke that Jonah Hill won't be rolling out in "Transformers 2” after all. It's sad, sad news for movie fans hoping the sequel would get a legitimate comedic-sidekick injection rather than, say, filling the role with Dax Shepard.
According to series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the movie has had to move on without the "Superbad" star – but we can still expect some big announcements over the next several weeks.
"No, no," he said of Hill's reported casting. "Ultimately, we'll have a couple casting surprises for everybody soon."
Director Michael Bay and returning stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Jon Voight are reportedly on board to return, and Bonaventura confirmed plans to start shooting the movie in Philadelphia and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania next month. Read more...

One’s a 65-year-old actor masquerading as the biggest action star on the planet, the other’s a 21-year-old at the peak of his physical prowess. So guess which one got injured on the set of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”?
You get two chances, and your first one doesn’t count.
“I pulled a rotator cuff in my hip,” Shia LaBeouf said, gesturing to his waist. “It’s the only time in my career I’ve ever been injured. What happened was, because the injury got worse and worse as the movie went on, I pulled my groin also. [The groin] is not a good thing to have anything happen to.” Read more...
