Between comments from Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf, the cast and crew of the "Transformers" franchise haven't exactly denied that "Revenge of the Fallen" had some… problems, to put it mildly.
But Bay, Shia and others have expressed an equal amount of passion towards "Dark of the Moon," the new "Transformers" movie arriving this summer. The just-released trailer has offered serious hope that "Dark of the Moon" will indeed kick some robot tail, but does that still wash the taste of "Fallen" out of our mouths? And, really, won't somebody think of the writers?
Well, it turns out that you don't need to feel too badly for Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the screenwriting duo who brought you "Revenge of the Fallen." Orci, who has collaborated with Kurtzman on a number of highly respected and anticipated projects including the "Star Trek" reboot and "Cowboys & Aliens," explained to MTV News in a phone interview that they're not upset about the "Fallen" backlash — especially when looking at box-office numbers.

Today is the 4th of July, a day in which you should, as one relative of a popular "Simpsons" character once put it, "celebrate the birth of your nation by blowing up a small part of it." What would Independence Day be without fireworks? Incredibly boring.
Let's face it though. Fireworks are only exciting when you're watching them live. That's why you don't see them so much in movies. Explosions though, those are an action flick hallmark. So while you're beating the heat during the daytime hours today, waiting for the sun to extinguish and the fireworks to fly, why not settle in with some popcorn and air conditioning while the following five movies delight you with their memorable scenes of mass destruction. Make no mistake, "Transformers 3" is coming. It might not have been the best film of 2009, but "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was a HUGE box office success and moviegoers are always game to see what director Michael Bay will blow up next and how big the explosion is.
Bay appeared on Starz' "In the House" last night and he spent a little time talking about the next installment of Paramount's toy-cartoon-comic book (and now movie) franchise. There had been rumblings around the industry that the filmmaker had plans to direct something before the next "Transformers," and he addressed that first. Read more...

FROM MTV.COM: Never let it be said that Hollywood isn't a big-money business. Vanity Fair has compiled a list of the 40 top-earning film players of 2009, including directors, actors and producers. Writers could have a place on the list too, but everyone knows that they're not paid well enough to chart on something like this.
The top earner for 2009 was, unsurprisingly, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" director Michael Bay, who earned $125 million. Most of that came from "Transformers," the back-end profits, home-video sales and licensing royalties. A smaller chunk, $8 million, came from producing "Friday the 13th," "The Unborn" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street." An additional $1.5 million came from royalties connected to Bay's older films.

"Up in the Air" is a masterpiece. "Avatar" is the rare film equally brilliant in the eyes of critics and audiences. "The Hurt Locker" reaches a raw emotional nerve unrivaled in the cinema. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
You can only heap on so much praise during awards season before your mind starts contemplating the polar opposites of 2009: the lazy, uninspired and just plain awful movies. Thankfully, the Razzies are here once again to pay tribute to the worst of the worst — and fans of "Twilight," "Transformers" and the Jonas Brothers seem unlikely to be amused. I love these pictures. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was a hit movie this past summer. Those robots in disguise are real though. Real, and protecting this planet from intergalactic menaces like the Decepticons. You can see it for yourself in our new flipbook gallery, in which Bumblebee reveals himself to the people of Sydney, Australia. Good to know they're keeping us safe, right?

It's big, it's loud and now the bonafide monster film of the year is rolling out on store shelves. Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" made gobs of money at the box office and now it almost singled-handedly owns the release calendar this week. But a few other titles do manage to break through the shape-shifting pack, and we'll cover them all in this DVD Report for Tuesday, October 20, 2009.
There's not much purpose in rehashing the plot to "Revenge of the Fallen," the follow-up to the bombastic intergalactic war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Anyone interested in the DVD and Blu-ray has already seen the film, so the only thing really worth discussing are whether the presentation and special features make it a must-own. Well, if you count yourself a fan of the robot-friendly franchise, then it's a definite yes. Like the first film's home video release, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is one of the best looking and best sounding discs around, especially on Blu-ray. Bay's films have frequently been reference-quality material for home theater systems and this one is no different. Action pops off the screen in amazing clarity and the 5.1 DTD-HD audio track could probably knock halls in your walls. Read more...

Summer blockbuster "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is out on Blu-ray and DVD today. The discs are loaded with extras, as you'll find out later in Brian Jacks' DVD Report. You can get a sneak peek though. In the clip below, an exclusive glimpse at the bonus content, star Shia LaBeouf talks about the experience of his second go-round with "Transformers" and the joy of watching newcomer Ramon Rodriguez go through the same things he did.

Whatever you may have thought of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" after the fact, it did really well this summer. "Really well" in this case means more than $800 million in worldwide box office grosses. It's one of those summer blockbusters where you pretty much know for a fact after opening weekend receipts have been counted that a sequel will be coming at some point.
Today, thanks to Michael Bay's web-based mouthpiece shoot for the edit, we have confirmation. The director confirmed: "We have a great 'Transformers 3' story. The release date is now July 1, 2011. Not 2012." Oh, but there's more. Bay also confirmed that Ms. Megan Fox will return as well. Read more...

When a hail of raining "Meatballs" earns box office gold over the likes of the bloody, sexy, Megan Fox-starring "Jennifer's Body," it's clear that summer is truly over. Fall is upon us now, meaning that the days of the big Hollywood blockbuster will have to wait until next May. In the meantime, there's plenty of other film fare to look forward to and plenty to look back upon.
Earlier today, our friends at Hollywood Crush devised a list of movies that take place in autumn, but such an array of films is a bit too subtle for my tastes. Just hearing the word "fall" is enough to get my wheelhouse churning, because there are so many movies that have the word in their title... some of 'em good, some of 'em not so much.
For your viewing pleasure, behold our five most memorable flicks with the word "fall" in its title. Yes, really. Read more...
