FROM SPLASH PAGE: As longtime readers know, we've been closely following the ups and downs of a potential adaptation of Brian Bendis' graphic novel "Torso" for quite a while now. The crime drama follows a post-Untouchables Eliot Ness as he investigates the one of the nation's first serial killers, and at one point in the project's move to the big screen, David Fincher was attached to direct with Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams tagged for lead roles.
While the project initially attracted significant buzz, Paramount let its rights to the adaptation expire back in January, leaving many people—including Bendis himself—uncertain if it had a future in Hollywood. However, just like any good comic book character, the project isn't staying dead for very long, and Bendis revealed during a recent visit to Splash Page HQ that the "Torso" movie has found momentum once again.
"A week ago I had final, but this weekend, not so much with the final," said Bendis when I asked if he had a "final word" on the project's status.

I've pretty much been chasing another interview with David Fincher since the moment my last conversation with him ended nearly a year ago. Sure, his suffer no fools rep strikes fear in anyone in my line of work but the truth is I found Fincher to be a charming and thoughtful subject on the first go round. Now with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" set for release I got Fincher to sit down for another 30 minutes (not quite enough time to get into "Alien 3" alas....).
You can check out the bulk to the Fincher interview here (including a whole batch of exclusive photos) where he reveals more about his plans for a "Fight Club" musical than ever before. The director likens the stage version to "a rock show — a lot of projection, a lot of computer-generated imagery, a lot of conveyor belts...really cinematic but really twisted." A twisted David Fincher work?!? You don't say...
Be sure to check out our reports on what Fincher told me about his Keanu Reeves "Chef" project, the long gestating "Heavy Metal" flick, and his plans for his adaptation of "Torso," aka what you never knew about Elliot Ness.
FROM SPLASH PAGE: Big news could be on the horizon for David Fincher's long-awaited adaptation of "Torso," Brian Bendis and Marc Andreyko's award-winning comic book series based on the true story of Cleveland's "Torso Murderer" and the investigation by "Untouchables" leader Eliot Ness -- but it might not be good news.
According to EW.com, Paramount's rights to the much-anticipated project are set to expire on December 15, leaving precious little time to bring the film out of production limbo, where it has idled for several years now despite the presence of Fincher and rumored attachment of high-profile actors Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams. The studio recently reported that it received a final script from "The Ring" screenwriter Ehren Kruger and would make a decision before the rights to the film expired.

When I got the chance to chat recently with David Fincher, I had a laundry list of projects I wanted him to weigh in on. Thankfully the astounding director of "Zodiac" and "Seven" spent the better part of an hour happily dispensing new info on his future slate. The first part of the interview, in which he discusses "Zodiac," can be read by clicking here.
Now the rest of our chat is up, and among the highlights of part two of the David Fincher interview:
-- He's planning on turning "Fight Club" into a musical.
