Wasn’t “The Soloist” hilarious? Remember all those crazy scenes of Robert Downey Jr. spilling urine on himself, and Jamie Foxx acting like he might be insane? Ah, good times, good times.

Oh wait, “Soloist” was a drama? Well, now that you mention it, maybe I shouldn’t have been laughing so much. Either way, the good news is that Foxx and Downey Jr. are reuniting for a real comedy from the director of “The Hangover.” And this time, I’m pretty sure it’ll be okay to laugh.

“Yeah, it’s called ‘Due Date,’” Jamie Foxx said of the film, issuing some high praise for director Todd Phillips, who also made “Old School” a frat-house classic. “He is the funniest guy in the world.” Read more...

Robert Downey JrTodd Phillips is still flying high following the runaway success of this summer's "The Hangover." A sequel has already been confirmed for that one, and many had believed that it would be next for the guy who also gave us such hilarious outings as "Road Trip" and "Old School." Then, a couple weeks ago, word hit the Internets that the director had settled on his next project, a road trip comedy called "Due Date."

"Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis was confirmed as one of "Due Date"'s two stars alongside the earlier announcement. Now we know who will join G on his shenanigans-filled road trip. Variety reports that "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. is on board. Read more...

The HangoverNot so long ago, we used to run a daily feature here on MTV Movies Blog called... uhh... The Dailies. In the fast-paced world of entertainment, it's easy to cherry pick the most noteworthy and or relevant stories while leaving lesser but otherwise cool newsbites to flounder. Even on my busiest day, I still won't hit every single news item that you might care about.

That's what The Dailies is for. I'm bringing back this column to keep you all abreast of the latest Hollywood happenings that don't otherwise make it into the news day. Even here, I'll be sure to miss stuff. That's where you readers come in. Shout out links in the comments below or Tweet us with the same at @mtvmoviesblog and I'll do my best to cram the relevant news into the next day's column. For now, on to the headlines! Read more...

'The Hangover'by Ryan J. Downey

The shenanigans Zach Galifianakas and crew get up to in "The Hangover" are nothing compared to the protagonist in director Todd Phillips' debut. The maniacal star of 1994's "Hated" slashed himself with razor blades, crapped on nightclub stages and verbally sparred with Geraldo. And that guy -- late punk legend G.G. Allin -- was a real person.

Considering Phillips' deep roots in punk rock, heavy metal and other subcultural genres, defining musical moments like The Cramps and Danzig songs in "The Hangover" or the Metallica and Black Flag jams in "Old School" make a lot of sense. Skate-punk hero Mike Vallely, whose band Revolution Mother was invited by Philips to write a track specifically for the movie, cameos as the tuxedo rental guy who hands "The Hangover" crew their clothes on the freeway. Warner Bros. was interested in developing a sequel to "The Hangover" before the movie was even finished. The film's stars talked loosely about their ideas while promoting the soon-to-be smash in the run up to its release. MTV can now confirm "The Hangover 2" -- or whatever it ends up being called -- is 100% happening, according to director Todd Phillips.

"We were thinking of sequel ideas when we were shooting, which sounds cocky, but we were doing it more because it was just fun to talk about ideas while hanging out on the set," Phillips explained. "Two weeks ago I was saying, 'let's see how it works out.' Now that the movie has really connected, it's something we're doing for sure." Read more...

The Dan BandEvery awesome, hangover-inducing wedding needs a killer wedding band, and “The Hangover”—this weekend’s surprise box office champ—has got that covered. If you haven’t seen the film, you might want to turn back now because what comes next is filled with spoilers, such as they are in a boozy comedy.

After a bachelor party gone bad, a trio led by Bradley Cooper’s cocky schoolteacher track down their missing buddy/groom (Justin Bartha) and drag him back to get hitched. When the wedding party gets going, a man you might recognize steps to the mic and belts out a supremely raunchy version of 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop.” That man is Dan Finnerty of The Dan Band, and he’s become something of a muse for director Todd Phillips. In fact, Phillips, who’s utilized Finnerty’s comedic crooning talents in “Old School” and “Starsky & Hutch,” has called the singer his good luck charm. Read more...
