Rainn Wilson owes me a bobblehead doll. I suppose I should have known something like the below was possible when I brought the bestselling NBC toy(?) with me to my interview with him the other day. But does anyone ever really expect to see a man break a toy of himself? Words don't do the situation justice. Check out the star of "The Rocker" wreak havoc below.
In a recent episode of "The Office," oddball Dwight revealed a habit of stashing weaponry around the workplace, including such items as a crossbow, blow darts and a long sword. Such weapon training may prove useful for Rainn Wilson as he prepares for his upcoming role in "Bonzai Shadowhands," a movie starring and being written by the fast-rising comedic actor.
Director Jason Reitman explains the flick as "the story of a reformed alcoholic ninja, and his relationship with a teenager." He continued, "I describe it as 'Midnight Cowboy' meets 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.'" But with more laughs, lest you worry that Wilson is suspending his comic forte to mount an Oscar campaign. "Every time I read pages of the script, it's just the funniest thing I've ever read," Reitman assured.
The "Thank You for Smoking" director, who features Wilson in a cameo for his new flick "Juno," was eager to elaborate on Wilson’s training: "I don't think he'll be changing his physique [for 'Shadowhands'], although he will be sharpening his ninja skills…he's going to have to do his own stunts." Should a "Hobbit" movie ever actually get made (and, frankly, we sometimes have our doubts), we want as many of the actors from "Lord of the Rings" to reprise their roles as possible - even the ones, like Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom, whose characters aren't actually even in the book. In the last few months, we've made it our mission to ask as many of them as we could about their potential involvement.
But one actor we wouldn't want to see return is actually the actor when it comes to a Hobbit movie. While wizards and elves and part elf-men all age slowly (or not at all), hobbits get old quick, and we can't imagine a 51-year-old Bilbo played by the same actor who brought him to life on his eleventy-first birthday.
But if not Ian, than who? How about "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" star Martin Freeman? Internet scuttlebutt has him front and center as a replacement candidate, and no one can argue that he doesn't looks the part. So when we caught up with "The Office" alum while he was promoting his new film "The Good Night," we asked him to address the hubbub. Read more...
Irwin M. Fletcher is a master of disguise, which seems appropriate since the character has spent the past decade looking like everyone from Chevy Chase to Jason Lee to Ryan Reynolds and Zach Braff. After his next transformation, however, the cunning columnist from the "Fletch" series might just be wielding the perfectly-timed sarcasm skills of an "Office" star.
"Oh, wow, thank you, that's such a huge compliment," grinned John Krasinski this past weekend, reacting to the observation that his skills in the new flick "License to Wed" make him seem like an obvious choice to become a younger, hipper Fletch for his generation. "My name was tossed around a little bit for the role, and it's something that [I might consider]." Read more...
