We did it last year with "World's Sexiest Woman" Megan Fox, and now we're scouting the local shopping scene with another up-and-coming actress. This time we saddled up with "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" star Anna Popplewell, who's reprising her role of older sister Susan for a second time as the film opens today. In the video below, the young star takes us along as she searches for the right dress for the "Prince Caspian" premiere. See the hotness that resulted and then click here to watch all of our "Narnia" video coverage.
It seems clear that whether or not you view Susan Pevensie as a victim or a fool, chances are you don't take a middle-ground approach -- not when she's been alternately called a manifestation of author C.S. Lewis's misogynic beliefs, and a representation of the Narnian Judas (as in, you know, THE Biblical traitor).
But however you view Susan's ultimate exclusion from Aslan's Country (which we'll just go ahead and call heaven from here on out) -- whether you stand with author Philip Pullman and say it's because of sexist reasons ("She's interested in nothing now-a-days except nylons and lipstick and invitations") or whether you side with close readers and more mainstream scholars, who say it's because she was in too much of a hurry to adopt a materialistic mentality ("She's always a jolly sight too keen on being grown up.") -- you're going to wind up with a headache after watching "Prince Caspian." There are thirteen directors in history whose films have grossed over $1 billion domestically. James Cameron and Michael Bay were able to do it in seven movies. Peter Jackson took eight.
Andrew Adamson, meanwhile, did it in three.
So after two "Shreks" and two "Narnias," who's gonna begrudge him a little well earned vacation?
"I want to do as much as I can from somewhere on a nice beach," he laughing, telling MTV that his involvement in the third Narnia, "Voyage of the Dawn Treader," will be largely scaled back. "I am a director, I know what it's like to have someone watching over your shoulder. I don't want to be that person to Michael Apted, and I'm really intrigued to see what he brings to the movie." There was a time when everything was "Star Wars" vs. "Star Trek." If you wanted to be a knowledgeable geek, you studied up on your Boba Fetts and your Nyota Uhuras, knew the difference between a Stormtrooper and a Klingon, and you were good to go.
Then the next generation of geekdom came along, and made life good for young actors like William Moseley. "I was up for Harry Potter way, way back," remembered the 20-year-old. "But I don't quite fit the bill, I think."
Instead, Moseley would later land the role of Peter Pevensie, one of the British children who were transported to a magical land in 2005's "The Chronicles of Narnia," and returned home with $300 million in domestic box-office money. And although Moseley will return to Narnia again next month with the sequel "Prince Caspian," he admitted to us that he'll always wonder what life would've been like behind eyeglasses and a lightning-bolt scar.
