Lord of the RingsWhen it comes to the biggest, baddest villains in movie and literature history, Sauron and his Mordor hoard from "Lord of the Rings" are easily in the top 10. First off, Sauron is the ultimate evil, and secondly, there just doesn't seem to be anything redeeming about any of his minions.

Yet one Russian novelist felt otherwise. In 1999, paleontologist Kirill Yeskov wrote a novel called "The Last Ringbearer" which revisited the climactic final battle of "The Lord of the Rings" from the perspective of Sauron's underlings. In this version, Gandalf is a war-monger whose sole purpose is to crush the scientific and technological initiative of Mordor while Sauron is forward-thinking by passing a "universal literacy law." It's certainly a different take on the story, to say the least.

Salon recently reviewed the novel in its new English translation, and though they debated whether it qualifies as fan fiction or something greater, the online mag felt the book was a soaring accomplishment all the same. And that got us thinking -- are there other stories begging a retelling from the villains' perspective? The answer is a resounding yes, and we've got our wish list after the jump!

Has there ever been a more perfect match for a movie soundtrack than Daft Punk and "Tron: Legacy"? Certainly there are few collaborative efforts that have received as much fan excitement as this one. The only new scene in the trailer is a shot of the Daft Punk duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, in their cameo as disc jockeys at a nightclub within the digital world. And those costumes that they're wearing aren't even costumes, but just the typical outfits that Daft Punk wear during all their performances. So, has there ever been a soundtrack and film so perfectly matched for one another? Check out a handful of our recent favorites after the jump! Read More...

As Juliet once said to Romeo: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Now, modern-day star crossed lovers Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are getting ready to carry on with their cinematic love affair. But will the second “Twilight” movie smell as sweet now that it has a brand-new name?

MTV News has the scoop on the official name and logo for Chris Weitz’s soon-to-film sequel to “Twilight.” Dubbed “The Twilight Saga's New Moon” (although the title treatment leaves off the "'s") the film’s official title art stays true to the look of the first movie while swapping in an orange tint, a subtle crescent moon, and the release date of 11.20.09.

Although the look of the new logo will undoubtedly get Twilighter tongues wagging, it’s the five-word official title that is the most prominent variation from Stephenie Meyer’s simple “New Moon.” Read More...
