Best Movie Quotes

The most memorable movie lines require three things: They must sound like something a real person (or at least the character uttering them) would, you know, actually say; they must be smarter, funnier and snappier than what a real person would actually say (this sounds like it would contradict the first point, but it doesn't); and they must have a great actor to give them a great delivery. It's a delicate balance, and one that takes both skill -- and a tiny bit of luck -- to achieve.

This year was packed with plenty of ear-pleasing, intensely quotable movie quotes, ranging from the highbrow ("The Social Network" and "True Grit") to the not-so-highbrow ("The Other Guys" and "Machete"). Some movies -- here's looking at you, "Social Network" -- were so full of amazing one-liners and witty exchanges that I could have made a top 10 list just drawing from them. But in the interest of fairness, I'll stick to one awesome line per movie. Below, take a look at my picks for the 10 best movie quotes of 2010, then hit the comments to share your own favorites! Adam McKay and Will Ferrell When Will Ferrell and Adam McKay team up, it's a pretty safe bet that there'll be a big fat pot of comedy gold at the end of that rainbow. The duo has given movie fans such beloved hits as "Anchorman," "Talladega Nights," "Step Brothers" and this summer's buddy-cop hit "The Other Guys," as well as the game-changing comedy website FunnyOrDie.com, which propelled McKay's young daughter Pearl to stardom with a little viral video sensation called "The Landlord."

With "The Other Guys" DVD and Blu-Ray in stores now, MTV chatted with writer-director McKay about a potential sequel to the film, how he wooed Mark Wahlberg to do a comedy, and why it might be a long time before we see Pearl demand the rent from Will Ferrell. Read More...

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsHalloween is fast approaching, and unsurprisingly here at the MTV Movies Blog we have a soft spot for movie-themed costumes. There's tons of inspiration to be taken from films released in 2010, which means that the streets are probably going to be overrun with people dressed up in Mad Hatter and Na'vi costumes purchased from the store. But there's plenty of room to save your pennies and be creative without just throwing on a hoodie and calling yourself Mark Zuckerberg or pulling out your best suit and saying you're Don Draper or a member of the "Inception" dream team (pun intended).

We're getting rid of your excuse to be lazy this Halloween and bequeathing unto you some costume ideas that will make your friends cringe -- whether it's out of good old-fashioned horror or due to the sheer magnitude of your costume's disregard for good taste (we apologize in advance if we inadvertently offend anyone). So hit the jump for five original twists on movie-themed costumes to spice up your Halloween. Read More...

"The Other Guys" is a terrifically bizarre movie. I didn't fall head-over-heels for it, but stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg provide a good time while Michael Keaton steals every one of the (blessedly many) scenes he's in.

One of the central plot points involves a complex Ponzi scheme. If you don't know what that is, just stick around for the end credits. Or hit play on the below video, which is just the end credits.

"The Other Guys" marks Adam McKay and Will Ferrell's fourth big screen collaboration, but despite their efforts, the duo hasn't been able to gift Earth with a sequel to any of their comedies. For the sad tale of the demise of "Anchorman 2," reach for the tissues and click here.

But! Wipe those tears away, because as depressing as it is to say goodbye to more legend-making adventures with Ron Burgundy, McKay told MTV News late last week that he and Ferrell are indeed planning on a sequel: either to 2008's "Step Brothers" or "Other Guys." He also dropped some hints about a mysterious project that would reunite Ferrell with John C. Reilly, his "Step Brothers" co-star. Read on for the details... Read More...

Good morning, everyone. I'm here with an important message from Will Ferrell, star of "The Other Guys" and the new spokesperson for New York's Finest. In the below video he expresses the importance of joining up to Serve and Protect. It's a valuable public service, so long as you're brave enough to face the worst the city can throw at you day in, day out. Just beware kiddies-- while the language isn't gratuitous, a couple of F-bombs put this squarely in the Not Safe For Work territory.
