Johnny DeppDisney's dance with "The Lone Ranger" just keeps getting trickier.

Deadline reports that Disney must accept the $215 million-ish budget that director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are presenting, or move forward without Verbinski... and, by extension, without Johnny Depp, who reportedly won't shoot the film without Verbinski behind the camera. Disney originally pulled the plug on "The Lone Ranger" because the budget got a bit too out of control, though last we heard they were negotiating. We'll keep you posted with further updates as soon as we have them.

It's been over a year since news broke that Mark Pellington ("Arlington Road") was attached to direct a remake of the Spanish horror flick, "The Orphanage." But unlike Larry Fessenden, who reportedly departed the project after a casting dispute, Pellington told MTV News that he remains committed to the production. Yet he, too, is clearly frustrated at the slow development pace.

"I don't know. That's been a year in discussion," Pellington told us at the Sundance Film Festival, where he was promoting "I Melt with You." "I'm ready to go whenever they can find an actress and pull the trigger….I've been attached for a year, and it's actually because it's been delaying, delaying, delaying that I decided to do this. I was like, 'How long are you going to wait?'"

Back in August, I excitedly shared news that Larry Fessenden was hired to direct New Line's English-language remake of Juan Antonio Bayona's spooky Spanish film "The Orphanage." Unfortunately, the filmmaker was dropped a few months later over an issue with the film's casting. Now the studio is in negotiations with music video veteran and "Arlington Road" director Mark Pellington to helm the horror flick, according to Variety.

Reportedly, the script that Fessenden co-wrote with producer Guillermo Del Toro is still being used, so I'm happy about that. As for Pellington, I'd like to be hopeful that he's the right choice, especially since he showed promise early in his career with "Going All the Way" and "Arlington Road," not to mention with Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" video. I also really enjoyed his recent concert film "U2 3D," though mostly for the gimmicky spectacle. Read More...

Guillermo del ToroNot to confuse you while “Orphan” is still in theaters, but there’s some exciting news for horror fans regarding Guillermo Del Toro’s remake of the spooky foreign film “The Orphanage.” Low-budget cult filmmaker/actor Larry Fessenden, known for such environmentally conscious paranormal thrillers as “Wendigo” and “The Last Winter,” has been tapped to direct the English-language version, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fessenden also co-wrote the adaptation with Del Toro, producer of both the original and the coming remake.

For those who are unfamiliar with the original, “The Orphanage” is a 2007 Spanish-language film from director Juan Antonio Bayana (who’d been a rumored candidate to direct “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” awhile back) about a woman who returns to the orphanage she grew up in. There she is haunted by the ghost of a kid wearing a burlap sack as a mask. Read More...

Juan Antonio BayonaThere's not a day that passes that Guillermo del Toro isn't in the trades. When does he sleep? When does he eat? I don't know, but I want whatever it is that keeps him speeding through the movie business. According to Variety, he's reuniting with his friend Juan Antonio Bayona, who just got the directing gig on Universal's "Hater."

You probably remember Bayona's name from "The Orphanage," the Spanish horror film released earlier this year. Read More...
