The Hangover

The boys could be back in town for a new installment of "The Hangover," but not before they get some ginormous paychecks for the movie. Meanwhile, Chloe Sevingy could be getting Demi Moore's recently-vacated spot in "Lovelace," Russell Brand is headed to family-friendly territory and Paul Giamatti is ready for some Shakespearean tragedy.

It's January 26, and you're tuning in to today's casting call.

On Thursday night, "The Office" fans finally learned who would be heading up the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin. James Spader's creepy, kooky Robert California would act as CEO and Ed Helms' bumbling, well-meaning Andy is now the new Michael Scott.

Fans learned that after Robert staged a coup and pushed out Kathy Bates' Jo Bennett out as CEO, he then hired Andy to helm Scranton. But, he hasn't gone far. While Andy sits in Michael's old office, Robert does all his work from the conference room. In addition to the shifting power within the department, Jim and Pam are also expecting and the planking trend hit town.

"The Office" bid Steve Carell's bumbling Michael Scott goodbye this season. In the process, they lost someone to take the reins at the Scranton Dundler-Mifflin branch, TV's most distinguished paper selling company. Several candidates were interviewed in the show's season finale (Will Arnett, Ray Romano, Jim Carrey, Ricky Gervaise and Warren Buffett among the candidates), but the question of who will get the job still remains unanswered… though perhaps the answer is just a "Hangover" away.

When MTV News caught up with Ed Helms at the premiere of "The Hangover Part II," he weighed in on what might happen next season.

Gollum GollumHere's the best news you've heard all day: Ian Holm will be back for "The Hobbit."

We literally have no other information other than that, but Peter Jackson took to his Facebook to clarify that the voice we heard at the end of his recent video blog was Martin Freeman's, not Holm's from the previous "Lord of the Rings" narration. That being said, Jackson dropped a bomb on us by stating that "Ian will be returning as the older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit." Ahh, the wonders of Facebook.

The rest of today's news is after the jump, including the newest boss in town on "The Office," an extended trailer of "Green Lantern" and the newest "Hunger Games" casting announcement.

Ricky Gervais and Will ArnettDunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is about to lose its fearless leader, and the men who would replace Michael Scott are lining up in droves.

Steve Carell's departure from "The Office" is just a few weeks away, and while we wait to see if he's replaced by a pre-existing colleague or a newcomer, we can at least add a couple of new names to the speculation pile: according to Entertainment Weekly, original "Office" star Ricky Gervais and "Arrested Development" favorite Will Arnett are coming to Scranton.

Gervais and Arnett are slated to appear in the one-hour season finale this May, arriving a few weeks after Carell makes his exit. There's no word on whether or not Gervais and Arnett might cross over with the previously announced Will Ferrell, but a blogger can certainly dream.

As any devout fan of "The Office" already knows, comedy heavyweight Will Ferrell is set to spend four cushy episodes with Dunder Mifflin's merry band of misfits, as a special kind of send-off for star Steve Carell's big departure.

MTV News already established the fact that the cast is super excited for Ferrell's visit, but when I caught up with Jenna Fischer during the press day for her upcoming comedy "Hall Pass," I had to find out what Ferrell's been up to on their set.

If you thought Steve Carell's impending departure from "The Office" would give you the excuse you needed to leave Dunder Mifflin forever, you're sorely mistaken: Will Ferrell has booked a four-episode arc on the NBC sitcom, and as we've already told you, the comedic possibilities are just about endless.

As excited as we are about Ferrell's upcoming trip to Scranton, just imagine how pumped the cast and crew members of "The Office" themselves are getting. We spoke with a few of the regulars about the comedian's cameo on the red carpet of the SAG Awards last night, and the overall mood was very positive. Read More...

Will FerrellSan Diego's most delightful news team is getting back together, but instead of reporting on pregnant pandas while wearing butterfly collars, the guys will be slinging paper in good ol' Scranton, Pennsylvania. Yep, word broke yesterday that Will Ferrell and Steve Carell — co-stars of 2004's "Anchorman" — will be sharing the screen once again, this time on Carell's home turf, otherwise known as NBC's "Office."

Word is that Ferrell will be appearing for a four-episode arc as a branch manager at Dunder Mifflin whose inappropriateness is rivaled only by that of Carell's Michael Scott. Ferrell, of course, has mastered the art of awkward, uncomfortable, beyond-all-reason behavior. Here are five roles we're hoping the comedian draws on for his turn on "The Office."

Allen Gamble ("The Other Guys")
Ferrell played a cop opposite Mark Wahlberg in one of last year's highest-grossing comedies, and their odd-couple interactions gave the movie its soul. His performance was perfectly calibrated for "The Office": excruciating, hilarious, and leaving viewers with the thought, "Man, I'm glad I don't work with anyone like that!"

Have you heard the news? British funnyman Ricky Gervais -- creator and star of the original "The Office" -- is setting his sights on Dunder-Mifflin. At least, that's according to some reports. But Gervais had always denied that his David Brent character (the original Michael Scott) would make an appearance on the hit American version, so who should we believe?

We posed that very question to John Krasinski on the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet, and if the actor knew anything, he was doing a pretty good job of hiding it.

"I think there was talk of them [Gervais and co-creator Stephen Merchant] writing and directing an episode. I don't think he's talking about being in the episode quite yet," Krasinski stated. Read More...
