Worst Movies of 2010

Every year has its share of great movies (check out our top 10 films of the year here and vote for your fave here) and not-so-great movies... and 2010 was no exception. There were the sure-fire winners that totally failed with critics, like "The Tourist" and the reboot of "A Nightmare on Elm Street," and there were the films that never had a chance, like "Case 39" and "Furry Vengeance"... as well as, apparently, anything with Katherine Heigl and/or Josh Duhamel.

It's kind of mean to kick these flicks while they're down, so we decided to go to an outside source for some hard data. In other words, we checked out RottenTomatoes to see which flicks were the 25 lowest rated of 2010. Then we made a convenient little poll out of the 25 films to see which one you decide is the worst. Hit the jump to vote in the poll, and let us know in the comments or on Twitter which films you thought were the bottom of the barrel in 2010 (and feel free to yell at me if you disagree)!

Jonah HexThanksgiving is a time to take a break from the bustle of everyday life, take stock of the many blessings bestowed upon us during the year and give thanks for them. It's also a time for turkey.

Keeping in line with both of those sentiments, online ticket retailer Fandango has revealed its list of this year's 10 biggest cinematic turkeys, a.k.a. the films moviegoers are least thankful for, so far. The list is based on reviews written by Fandango users who doled out their hard-earned cash to see these films and were more than just a little nonplussed by what they got in exchange.

Hit the jump to see the list (and what users had to say about each film). And remember: If you haven't paid money to watch these flicks, that's just one more reason to be thankful.

"The Dark Knight" and the "Iron Man" franchise have established that superheroes are back in business when it comes to box office success — but don't be so foolish as to discount the supervillains, as bad guy centric family film "Despicable Me" easily won first place this weekend, nearly doubling the total of its closest competitor, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." I wouldn't have thought it would be, but it looks like there's quite a box office showdown shaping up for this weekend. The vampires of "Twilight" hit theaters on Wednesday with the long-awaited release of the David Slade-directed third entry in that franchise, "Eclipse." Seems like a surefire weekend winner.

Then "The Last Airbender" came along last night, thumbing its nose at a mounting number of so-so reviews to open at $16 million. And so, a "Last Airbender" weekend box office upset seems possible, if unlikely. The smart money this weekend is definitely on "Eclipse." And I guess I know how this poll is going to go before I run it. But I'm curious to know how many of you think "Airbender" has a shot at toppling the mighty "Twilight" vampires.

The Daily TwitPic posted after the jump isn't the most impressive example of fine photography. But it does give me an excuse to talk about the strong opening director M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" had last night. The movie took in a reported $16 million in ticket sales, with the numbers of course bolstered by the higher price of 3-D screenings. While that's still short of the $25 million that "Eclipse" earned -- without the 3-D advantage, it's worth noting -- it is still an impressive figure, one that puts the Nickelodeon cartoon adaptation on track to exceed the predicted $50 million take over the July 4th weekend.

In the incredibly dark and blurry picture after the jump, you can see "Airbender" stars Aasif Mandvi and Dev Patel having a grand old time celebrating the release of the movie. I've heard that it's a strange experience for fans of "The Daily Show" to see Mandvi in a villain role in the Shyamalan flick. I've yet to see it myself -- "Eclipse" screened for press the same night -- but all of those delicious-looking visual effects are certainly going to get me into the theater this weekend. For me, and for many others, M. Night Shyamalan hit something that really resonated in his work on "Unbreakable." A play on the superhero genre, the movie tells the story of an Average Joe who develops a range of superhuman powers. It's a quiet, contemplative tale, one that hits all of the usual beats -- the initial discovery, learning to deal with these abilities, contending with an arch-nemesis -- while standing apart from other entries in the genre.

Of all of Shyamalan's films, this one is my clear favorite and one that many would love to see given a sequel treatment. MTV's Rick Marshall spoke to the director at the press junket for "The Last Airbender," out tomorrow, about the possibility, and it sounds like we're all going to need to have some patience.

"I just have to think of the right story," he said. "If I think of the right story — and by that I mean something that resonates with me right now, you know, at my age and where I am and what movie I've come off of — if I can do that, then I'll get really excited and I'll write a draft and I'll go beg Disney for us to be able to make it."
