This is not the same Ed Helms we saw earlier this summer in "The Hangover." Maybe it's close to what his character became by the end of that movie, but this guys looks much cleaner, much slicker. He looks like a shark. I'm fairly certain that's the point too, as Helms will play the son of a rival car dealer out to screw over the competition in this Friday's "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard."
I'll admit, "District 9" has kept this summer comedy more off my radar than it should be. As an avid "Entourage" watcher, I'm a big fan of Jeremy Piven. Helms joined Zach Galifianakis in stealing the show in "The Hangover," and the duo are joined by an excellent cast which includes Ving Rhames, David Koechner ("Anchorman"), James Brolin, Alan Thicke, Tony Hale and Kathryn Hahn. -- Wait... you mean an IESB rumor has been debunked?! I don't believe it. A weekend rumor that Steven Spielberg is interested in at the very least producing an adaptation of the hit video game "Halo" has been officially put to rest. Microsoft commented on the "news," stating that any "Halo" motion picture projects are officially on hold while the publisher concentrates on making games. I can't imagine why. Maybe it's the $60 price tag vs. the $10 movie ticket. (Kotaku)
-- Molly Ringwald wrote out a lengthy, heartfelt remembrance of her tragically fallen "Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" director, John Hughes. A lot has been said of Hughes in the past week, but Ringwald's reminiscence eclipses them all. (The New York Times) Read more...

-- No tricks here, Michael Jackson fans are getting a Halloween treat when Sony Pictures puts out a digestible version of the much-discussed final rehearsal footage. In a throwback to "Captain EO," select bits will be presented in 3-D. Speaking of "EO," wouldn't it be nifty of some of those 3-D clips turned out to be from the Disney attraction? The words "career retrospective" are mentioned after all. (MTV)
-- It still feels so strange to know with absolute certainty that a "Wall Street" sequel is happening. It is though, and the "Money Never Sleeps" cast just got bigger. Frank Langella is in, playing a seasoned broker who mentors Shia LaBeouf's young up-and-comer. The role is said to play "a major part in the film's plot." (Variety) Read more...

Box office successes! If there is such a cheesy spell, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" doesn't need it because fan devotion and critical enthusiasm has been enough this summer. The film has cast a spell over audiences, with $79.5 million earned so far this weekend, bringing the five day total to $159.7 million. For those not keeping score at home, this is the best debut yet for any Harry Potter installment yet. Read more...
Not so long ago, we used to run a daily feature here on MTV Movies Blog called... uhh... The Dailies. In the fast-paced world of entertainment, it's easy to cherry pick the most noteworthy and or relevant stories while leaving lesser but otherwise cool newsbites to flounder. Even on my busiest day, I still won't hit every single news item that you might care about.
That's what The Dailies is for. I'm bringing back this column to keep you all abreast of the latest Hollywood happenings that don't otherwise make it into the news day. Even here, I'll be sure to miss stuff. That's where you readers come in. Shout out links in the comments below or Tweet us with the same at @mtvmoviesblog and I'll do my best to cram the relevant news into the next day's column. For now, on to the headlines! Read more...

2. "The Proposal" ($18.5 million)
3. "The Hangover" ($17.2 million)
4. "Up" ($13 million)
5. "My Sister's Keeper" ($12 million)
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is now the proud holder of a five-day box office record of $201.2 million, but Optimus Prime still comes in behind Batman. Poor reviews aren't keeping audiences away from the latest Michael Bay spectacle, which has continued to exceed expectations and break records every day that it's in theaters. Read more...

3. "The Hangover" ($5.3 million)
4. "My Sister's Keeper" ($5.1 million)
5. "Up" ($3.9 million)
Some weekends, it's easy to predict what's going to come out on top! "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" topped our poll, and it destroyed the charts to take number one with $36.7 million. That would be enough to qualify it as a summer hit, but since it's debut was actually on Wednesday, that's just a drop of the bucket. Read more...
FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: OK, well maybe IMDb’s STARmeter isn’t saying that Zach Galifianakis is technically hotter than Taylor Lautner, but it is saying that, this week, “The Hangover” star is beating out Taylor, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale as Hollywood’s sixth most popular star.
The STARmeter is determined by how many views certain stars receive each week, and then ranks them accordingly. Unsurprisingly, Taylor’s fellow “Twilight” stud Robert Pattinson is #1 on the chart (he has been in the top 10 for the past 36 weeks and #1 for 22 of them — wow!), followed by Zach’s “Hangover” co-star Bradley Cooper at #2 and “The Proposal” hottie Ryan Reynolds at #5.

After inflicting a hurricane of damage throughout Las Vegas, "The Hangover"'s inebriated foursome somehow fled the city without any major legal repercussions. Sure they'd owe reparations to Caesar's Palace, but cleverly placed plot devices and bureaucratic loopholes allowed the men to skirt the law.
Imagine now for just a moment that the Nevada legal system worked as it should have. If the law had won, how much would Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) have lost? Read more...

1. "The Proposal" ($34.1 million)
2. "The Hangover" ($26.8 million)
4. "Up" ($21.3 million)
3. "Year One" ($20 million)
5. "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" ($11.3 million)
As the weekend progresses, audiences continue to fall hard for "The Proposal," which stayed strong at #1 by bringing in $34.1 million, finally knocking "The Hangover" down from its two week reign at the top. After weeks of explosions and CG, people were clearly in the mood for a little love... and perhaps all the pre-release publicity that focused on the nude scene between "Proposal" stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds helped a little.
