Muppet movie castingThe new Muppet movie (titled "The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made," "'The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time" or nothing at all, depending on where you look) snowballed together a good collection of talent this year as Jason Segel and Nick Stoller's project picked up "Flight of the Conchords" co-creator James Bobin to direct. The cast surrounding Segel just expanded, too, with Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones reportedly hammering out terms for joining the film.

Segel and Adams will play a boyfriend-girlfriend duo that helps the Muppets in their battle against Cooper's villain, who's threatening to tear down the Muppets' old studio; Jones will play the role of an ABC exec, according to a story on Heat Vision. Read More...

THE MUPPETS ARE COMING!!! Variety reports today that "The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made," co-written by the powerhouse Nick Stoller/Jason Segel duo and directed by James Bobin, now has a release date: Christmas Day, 2011. Interestingly, the report states that there's no official title for the film even though "Greatest Muppet Movie" has been floating around for some months now.

Does it matter? Like I said, THE MUPPETS ARE COMING!!! AND NOW WE KNOW WHEN!!! To celebrate this fantastic news I've unearthed an amazing video clip from MTV's archives: Kermit the Frog talking about music and professing his love for hip-hop. And Cypress Hill. And... The X-Cutioners? Really?! So freaking cool, those Muppets.

This is a fantastic time to be a Muppets fan. There's the upcoming movie, "The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made," written by and starring Jason Segel. There are also the wildly successful YouTube shorts; 79 Muppets assembled to re-create Queen's classic video for "Bohemian Rhapsody" in November of last year. It was an instant sensation, gathering more than 14 million views to date and four Webby nominations. That's not even mentioning the universe of branded Muppet materials out there for serious fans to indulge in.

So the Muppets are back, and in a very big way. They weren't ever really gone, but they've re-emerged in the pop culture consciousness thanks to this recent viral excitement on the Internet.
