Liam Neeson is a very busy man these days. He's got a few sequels and cameos up his sleeve, in addition to the upcoming thriller "Unknown," co-starring Diane Kruger and January Jones.
When MTV News caught up with him over the weekend to talk about "Unknown," in which he plays a character with shades of Bryan Mills from "Taken," I asked him if he was surprised at how much people love that film and of course had to pump him for few details about "Taken 2."
"I thought it was a good little B-movie when I first read it," Neeson said of "Taken." "I thought, 'This is cool, very simple, maybe straight to video, but it's a good little film, it's a chance to do all that physical stuff.' And then it just seemed to hit a pulse in people, it did very very well which I'm thrilled about and we're hoping to do another one next year sometime."
And what might that film entail?

If you're a fan of Liam Neeson: Badass, then this is a big ol' exciting "Taken" post is just for you! During a charity event in Belfast, Neeson confirmed that his butt-kicking alter-ego Bryan Mills will be back at it again, saving the lives of virgin daughters worldwide. In other words, he said, "Yes, there'll be a 'Taken 2,' before these limbs give up on me."
That confirmation comes coupled with the news from Deadline that EuropaCorp, writer Luc Besson's movie factory, is working on a "Taken" TV series that will hit the small screen as a follow-up to "Taken 2." Apparently the film is set to start filming in the spring once a director is chosen (I guess Pierre Morel wasn't down for another go-around?). There's no word yet on what the plot of the TV series would be, but I think we can safely assume that Neeson won't be starring in it. Read more...

"Taken" is an incredible piece of film. Does it rank among the all-time best? Absolutely not. It's completely implausible in every way. There are plot holes, continuity oddities and downright questionable character motivations. But it is, as MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson puts it, all about watching Liam Neeson shoot half of France in the face. And that makes it perfectly excellent.
It's also confusing though to hear Neeson say that making a "Taken" sequel is challenging because it is "hard to get a plot that will be believable." Wait, what? Really? It's fine though, fear not. The actor goes on to say that he'll be meeting with producer Luc Besson later this month. Soooo... there's always hope!

Both stars have been around for a long time and given us a lot of movies we love; in 1994, they finally came together, resulting in the instant classic “Pulp Fiction.” Now, John Travolta and Bruce Willis are teaming once again for the new action movie “From Paris With Love” – the only difference is that, this time around, Bruce probably isn’t aware of it.
“John is great, because he likes playing with his image,” Pierre Morel, director of "From Paris," "Taken" and the upcoming "Dune" adaptation explained to us recently. “He likes doing different characters every time.” Read more...

And so we reach the end of 2009. It's been quite a year for movies, hasn't it? Records were broken, vampires continued to sparkle and the game was presumably changed. James Cameron showed the world that he still knows how to tell a tale. Neill Blomkamp and Oren Peli both proved that there are still fresh, original ways of presenting familiar fare. And folks like Joel and Ethan Coen, Jason Reitman, Quentin Tarantino, J.J. Abrams, Spike Jonze and the entire Pixar team continued to define themselves as some of our favorite storytellers.
Here on the MTV Movies team, everyone has a different idea about what made 2009 a fantastic one for film. I'm here to share some of those highlight moments and favorite movies with you now. The entire team isn't represented here -- busy end-of-year schedules and all that jazz -- but you get a good sampling of what moved us and why. Happy New Year, y'all! See you in 2010! Read more...

Apologies for today's late-breaking Dailies; a battery of meetings threw off my publishing schedule. Then there was yesterday's absence, when The Dailies fell victim of a top secret screening. But I'm back now, baby. And there's lots of news in the movies world, so let's get right down to it.
-- This is rumor territory, so take it for what it's worth. Robert Rodriguez's "Grindhouse" spin-off, "Machete," got a pretty exciting casting update. Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jonah Hill and Robert freaking De Niro may or may not be joining the cast. The shoot is supposed to get underway in a couple weeks, so we'll all know soon enough.
