Word emerged at the end of the summer that Sylvester Stallone was once again preparing to step into the shoes of John Rambo, a follow-up to his 2008 revival in "Rambo." While it's hard to find fault with the reasoning behind bringing Rambo back again -- he does, in fact, kick a large amount of ass -- the premise of this sequel, set at the time to start shooting in the spring of 2010, left myself and many other fans confused.
"Rambo V: The Savage Hunt," as originally revealed by Stallone in early September, would pit the aging Vietnam veteran against a "feral beast... [an] amalgamation of fury and intelligence and pure, unadulterated rage," the product of a failed government experiment. So basically... "Predator," but with a mutated super-soldier in place of an alien warrior. Not exactly the most "Rambo"-esque plotline. I, for one, was not pleased. Read more...
--Sylvester Stallone has opened up on the secret scene in "The Expendables" featuring himself, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and my greatest dreams come to life. According to the actor, Willis plays the man who hires Stallone and his titular team for "a death-defying mission," but there's another operative that could take on the job — none other than Stallone's longtime rival, played by Schwarzenegger. "I talked about this scene with these guys for a long time, but I never thought it would come to fruition," said Stallone. (PopWatch)
--NBC is going from "Heroes" to "Zeroes" in an all-new television project from "Crank" duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Titled "Zeroes," the one-hour NBC project will focus on a crisis situation's final hour. "We want to drop right into it and sustain the absolute most berserk state of crisis, when all of the options have been exhausted," said Taylor. (THR) Read more...

It has finally happened. The moment I've waited for ever since I was old enough to enjoy a hard-R action film — which was younger than I'd care to let my mother know, thank you very much — has finally arrived.
Sylvester Stallone. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bruce Willis. On screen. Together.
The trio of iconic Hollywood action heroes united this weekend to film a scene together for "The Expendables," Stallone's long-awaited ensemble action epic. The writer-director-actor was able to wrangle both Willis and Schwarzenegger for smaller roles in the movie, and while we first broke word of this reunion a few months back, the actual filming has commenced — and based on the admittedly scarce details, this not-so-secret scene sounds pretty wonderful. You've gotta love Sylvester Stallone. The guy was a dominant force in '80s cinema, particularly with his iconic Rocky Balboa and Rambo characters. Not to mention debatable classics like "Nighthawks," "Cobra," "Over the Top" and "Tango & Cash." He lost some luster over the next decade, but returned to the public eye once again -- ironically -- when he revisited the roles that made him in "Rambo" (2008) and "Rocky Balboa" (2006).
Now that's he's firmly reestablished himself, the Italian Stallion is turning his attention to other possibilities. We already know he's set to star in director Robert Rodriguez's "The Expendables." Now, speaking to Empire, Stallone also revealed that he's interested in remaking the Charles Bronson-starring classic "Death Wish" in addition to a long-gestating biopic on Edgar Allen Poe. Not only is a fifth "Rambo" film actually happening, it's also got a title and a premise -- "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt," in which Vietnam veteran John Rambo heads to the American Pacific Northwest with a team of Black Ops soldiers to hunt down a forest-dwelling "feral beast," the byproduct of a government experiment gone terribly wrong.
Now, am I really the only one who thinks this sounds like an awesome movie? Just last week, I gushed about the merits of the fourth "Rambo," which boasts a considerably more reality-based plot than the proposed "Rambo V." But unlike MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg, who is notably worried about the franchise's new, apparently sci-fi direction, I'm not as concerned by the break from realism. Here's why. May as well get it out of the way at the outset: I am so not on board with this idea. The "Rambo" series is about over-the-top action and outlandish military plots, but as silly as the happenings get they always stay at least SOMEWHAT grounded in reality. Putting in a "Predator"-esque sci-fi twist... I'm just not feeling it.
Perhaps I should explain. Over the weekend, Ain't It Cool News revealed new details about the next "Rambo" feature, which was confirmed in name only at the beginning of last week. AICN's Harry Knowles followed up on the news by speaking with series leading man Sylvester Stallone, who was only to happy to share the rough story arc for "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt." And that's where things get kinda funky. Read more...
With the bloody awesome that ensued in "Rambo" and the hopefully bloody awesome contained in next year's "The Expendables," there is absolutely no reason that today's announcement of a fifth "Rambo" film should be anything but bloody awesome news.
According to Variety, Sylvester Stallone is officially planning a sequel to last year's "Rambo," which he will once again direct and star in for Nu Image/Millennium Films. Production is expected to start in the spring of 2010.
Variety describes the plot of the untitled "Rambo" sequel as revolving around "Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border." Read more...
Do you like my punny headline?
A very strange week as far as your clicks go. In an odd change from the norm, not a single one of the top three stories for the week has anything to do with vampires. In fact, "Twilight" news doesn't pop up on the list until position number five. Could my Twilighter readers be slipping?
Before we ponder that question, let's take a quick look at the week's Box Office Poll. To no one's great surprise, Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" leads the voting, with 75% of your clicks. None of the other options really inspired you, with "Post Grad" tying for the second place spot with "staying home and watching TV." Ouch. Read more...

They are three legends of the silver screen. Separately, they've made dozens of films that have had a huge impact on the lives of moviegoers. Fans have been wanting to see them unite on screen for decades. Now, the trio are finally planning to make a movie together.
“I want to send best wishes to Sly,” Bruce Willis said with a grin when we spoke with him last week. “And the Governor of California, my old pal Arnold.” Read more...
Edgar Allan Poe is no stranger to the movies. His literature has been adapted to film as early as 1908 and he was first portrayed onscreen in a D.W. Griffith short a year later. So it’s not always that exciting to hear about another Poe project in the works. However, I am very intrigued by this new movie coming from “V for Vendetta” director James McTeigue, which will fictionalize the writer’s mysterious final days.
/Film got the scoop on this project while interviewing McTeigue at San Diego Comic-Con. His latest, the upcoming “Ninja Assassin,” was screened at SDCC and it opens this November. The Poe project is titled “The Raven,” though it’s not exactly based on the writer’s avian-centric poem. McTeigue claims it’s like a cross between Poe’s “The Raven” and the David Fincher film “Se7en.” Scripted by Hannah Shakespeare (Kevin Bacon’s “Loverboy”) and Ben Livingston, “The Raven” follows Poe as he hunts for a serial killer inspired by his stories.
