FROM SPLASH PAGE: "Surrogates," director Jonathan Mostow's big-screen adaptation of Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele's comic book series, arrives on shelves next week. As regular readers know, we've been all over the film since it was first announced several years ago — mainly because we're all big fans of the book around Splash Page HQ.

That's why we're happy to present an exclusive preview of one of the bonus features on the "Surrogates" DVD and Blu-Ray. In "Breaking the Frame," Venditti describes the long, strange trip "Surrogates" has taken from the mailroom at Top Shelf Productions to a feature film starring Bruce Willis.

"Surrogates" arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray January 26. Read on for a full breakdown of the specs for each release.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: It's that time of year when we run down our favorite projects from the world of comics and comic book movies, folks. And while that's all well and good, this year I want to make sure Splash Page readers have a say in all the "Best Of" madness, too!

Next week, we're rolling out bunches of "Best Of" lists covering our favorite books, series, films and anything else that made big waves around Splash Page HQ over the last year — and along with rolling out our own picks, we'll reveal your pick for the best comic book movie of 2009.

Was "Wolverine" the best there was at what it did (this year)? Has distance (and the rest of the year's films) made you fonder of "Watchmen"? Or was one of this year's animated movies (i.e., "Hulk Vs." or "Green Lantern: First Flight") better than anything the live-action world had to offer?

1. "Zombieland" ($25 million)
2. "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" ($16.7 million)
3. "Toy Story" & "Toy Story 2" (3-D Double Feature) ($12.5 million)
4. "The Invention of Lying" ($7.35 million)
5. "Surrogates" ($7.34 million)

Based on yesterday's projections, the remainder of the box office weekend played out as many suspected it would. Unsurprisingly, the Woody Harrelson-starring "Zombieland" took the first place prize with $25 million, surpassing its $23.6 million budget in its first weekend in theaters. The creature-filled dark comedy, which also stars notable up-and-comers Jesse Eisenberg ("Adventureland"), Emma Stone ("Superbad") and Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine"), marks the sixth time a Sony film has opened in the number one spot this year. 1. "Zombieland" ($9.4 million)
2. "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" ($3.7 million)
3. "Toy Story" & "Toy Story 2" (3-D Double Feature) ($3.2 million)
4. "The Invention of Lying" ($2.5 million)
5. "Surrogates" ($2.2 million)

One might wonder why Sony Pictures is so happy in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, but the movie studio has plenty of reasons to smile as the Woody Harrelson-starring "Zombieland" nabbed the top spot at the box office on its opening day. The film earned $9.4 million going into Saturday, and Deadline Hollywood Daily's Nikki Finke is projecting a $25 million weekend total for the film. The movie was produced for an estimated $23.6 million, so "Zombieland" should have no trouble clawing its way towards the profit margin by Sunday's end. Read More...

1. "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" ($24.6 million)
2. "Surrogates" ($15 million)
3. "Fame" ($10 million)
4. "The Informant!" ($6.9 million)
5. "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" ($4.7 million)

Moviegoers on the American east coast woke up to both a literal downpour of rain as well as an irrefutable onslaught of oh-so-delicious "Meatballs." The Sony Pictures Animation film easily won the box office for its second weekend in a row with a $24.6 million intake, resulting in a total of $60 million since its debut last weekend. Read More...

1. "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" ($5.6 million)
2. "Surrogates" ($5 million)
3. "Fame" ($3.5 million)
4. "The Informant!" ($2 million)
5. "Pandorum" ($1.6 million)

If the Bruce Willis-starring comic book movie "Surrogates" had one obstacle to overcome this weekend, it was "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," the Sony Pictures Animation film that reigned supreme over last weekend's box office. Truly, it's a difficult decision for moviegoers -- experience a world filled with robotic analogues that can do and see anything you wish them to, or behold the spectacle of delectable food products raining gloriously upon your face. In the end, it looks like taste buds just barely won the battle. Read More...

-- The release of "Pandorum" this week, a movie which has drawn comparisons to everything from James Cameron's "Aliens" to Paul WS Andersons's "Event Horizon," has spurred a flurry of sci-fi/horror lists. Just today, our very own John Constantine put together his funny rundown of the scariest aliens in space. Cinematical's list is more laudatory, calling out the 10 greatest sci-fi/horror movies. -- I love this list. New York Magazine's Vulture blog assembled a list/photo gallery of "The Future's Twelve Worst Haircuts." What is it pegged to, you ask? The ridiculous haircut that Bruce Willis sports in this week's comic book adaptation, "Surrogates." Do you need any more prodding than that? This feature is a win for one, simple reason: it mocks the despicable adaptation of L. Ron Hubbard's sci-fi novel, "Battlefield Earth." (Vulture) Read More...

As if last week's mixed-genre Friday openings weren't enough, we've got the same song this week as well. I'm thinking that the front-runner is "Fame." Not only does it possess an all-ages appeal, but there's also the nostalgia factor to consider. The 1980 original was quite popular, so even childless thirty-somethings can find something to enjoy with this remake. Maybe.

It's not like there aren't other options. Michael Moore is back with another message-driven doc, "Capitalism: A Love Story." This one's about the sorry state of financial affairs that our nation is currently in, with the focus on what went wrong and how we got to where we currently are. Moore is nothing if not a crowd-pleaser, so expect to find his same brand of wry, scathing humor mixed with shocking facts about corporate and governmental wrongdoings. Read More...
