FROM SPLASH PAGE: Halloween Week continues with yet another guest blog from one of the industry's most notable creators of horror comics. This time around, it's "30 Days of Night" co-creator Steve Niles, whose series "Criminal Macabre," "Freaks of the Heartland" and "Wake the Dead" (among others) are also currently in development as feature films. His sequel to "30 Days of Night," "Dark Days" is also currently in production.
I imagine for a lot of folks out there Halloween is a fun time, but not one of the bigger times of year. In my house, Halloween is right up there with all major holidays. I’d even go as far as to say I spend more in October than I do in December.
It’s the truth. I have a problem. My name is Steve Niles and I’m a horror addict. I’m also one lucky monster-kid. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Steve Niles might like writing savage, crafty vampires like those that invade Alaska in his “30 Days of Night” comics, but that doesn’t mean that he lacks a soft spot for the the classier, romantic bloodsuckers in Stephenie Meyers’ “Twilight” books. Quite to the contrary, the horror writer behind “Wake the Dead” and “Freaks of the Heartland” has nothing but the utmost respect for his colleagues who take a softer approach to their vampire stories.
“It’s just a different way of looking at things,” Niles told MTV News. “Everybody assumes that from watching ‘30 Days of Night’ that I hate Anne Rice and the whole notion of romantic vampires, but it’s actually just the opposite.”

FROM SPLASH PAGE:
"30 Days of Night" creator Steve Niles has a healthy lineup of Hollywood options on the table this year, from "Pineapple Express" director David Gordon Green ready to adapt his miniseries "Freaks of the Heartland" to a "30 Days" sequel possibly going direct-to-DVD soon. His modern-day Frankenstein story "Wake the Dead," however, is facing some snags as its character designers find themselves occupied with the "Hobbit" films.
"That one’s kind of at a standstill for now," Niles told MTV News of the effects of WETA’s extended "Hobbit" commitment. "We just didn’t manage to get it set up as much as I had hoped."

FROM SPLASH PAGE: "30 Days of Night," the 2007 film adapted from Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith's tale of vampires invading a secluded Alaskan town, will indeed have a sequel -- but it might not be headed for theaters.
In a conversation with Niles, the author confirmed to MTV News that rumors of a "30 Days of Night" sequel in the works were not only true, but a screenplay has already been completed for the film. According to Niles, the movie sequel will be based on the sequel to the original "30 Days of Night" comic book, a story titled "Dark Days."

FROM SPLASH PAGE: First it was vampires , now it’s Frankenstein. The next Steve Niles comic to hit the big screen will be “Wake the Dead,” and this time, he’s helping out as a producer, not a writer, with a little help from WETA.
“Right now, we’re scouting locations,” Niles said. “[Director] Jay [Russell] wants the movie to be ready for the next San Diego [Comic-Con]. WETA is doing the designs, and it looks amazing. And whatever they need me on, I help. Jay runs the treatment by me and I put the story together, so it begins and ends with me, but I don’t have to write it.” Read More...
