Oldman

For his role in "Tinker Tailor Solider Spy," Gary Oldman is getting a lot of buzz as a potential Oscar nominee. It would be his first, if you can believe it. He’s popped up in so many memorable roles over the years, but he’s never received any adulation from the Academy.

In anticipation of the hopeful good news, we came up with a list of five other actors who’ve never gotten the call either.

Olivia WildeOlivia Wilde might not be the next Lara Croft, but she (and Steve Buscemi) might be the next stars to join forces with Steve Carell for "Burt Wonderstone."

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the duo are in talks to join the project as Carell's love interest and longtime partner who quits their Las Vegas magician act, respectively. Jim Carrey and James Gandolfini are also in negotiations to come on board. "Burt Wonderstone" is scheduled to begin filming in January.

Last year saw the release of an powerful flick from out of Sundance, Oren Moverman's directorial debut, "The Messenger." Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster starred as modern-day U.S. soldiers based at home and tasked with delivering death notices to next of kin. Moverman is reuniting with Harrelson and Foster for his follow-up effort, the crime thriller "Rampart," which also stars Ice Cube.

Today brings some super-sized casting news. A whopping five actors have been added to the mix, a not-unexpected development since shooting is supposed to start in late October. Steve Buscemi, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver and Robin Wright are all in, according to Variety. The fictional tale is set against the the Rampart Division scandal that unfolded in Los Angeles in the late-'90s (see also: "Training Day"). Harrelson will play a police officer who is caught up in the scandal. No word on how the new cast members fit into the larger picture.

Did you like "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" I did, and quite a bit too. The performers and performances are great of course, but the story is what sticks with you. It is loosely (very loosely, like almost unrecognizably so) adapted from Homer's Greek epic "The Odyssey," and it makes reference to the original work in a number of clever ways.

I get the same vibe from "Saint John of Las Vegas," an upcoming movie directed by Hue Rhodes that offers a similarly loose interpretation of "Dante's Inferno." Steve Buscemi stars as a recovering gambler who is tempted to return to the glitz and glamor when a business opportunity arises that will bring him back to Nevada's bastion of legalized gambling. Today we have some exclusive images from the film to share with you. Just click the image below to check out our full gallery.

You can find the trailer and other information on the movie's official website. You can also stay up on the latest updates via its Facebook and Twitter accounts. "Saint John of Las Vegas" opens in New York and Los Angeles on January 29, 2010, expanding wider on February 12, 2010.

Will ArnettWow is this a busy week. After the runaway success of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" last week -- and other shoe-in blockbusters in the weeks before it -- it's nice to see a little bit of variety for Friday's releases. "G-Force," with showings in two and three dimensions both, is an easy weekend win for families, provided they're not making a repeat (or first-time) trip to Hogwarts.

The CG animated adventure about a secret agent force of talking guinea pigs is a big-ticket item for a number of reasons. It is Disney's first (non-concert) live-action release shot in Digital 3-D. It is also produced by blockbuster-meister Jerry Bruckheimer in his 3-D debut. Then there's the knockout ensemble cast, which includes Nicolas Cage, Penélope Cruz, Steve Buscemi, Tracy Morgan, Will Arnett, Bill Nighy and Zach Galifianakis. Yeah, wow. Read More...
