A film titled "Vampire" brings about a certain connotation in American film culture nowadays, with juggernauts like "Twilight" and "True Blood" offering a very specific vision of the supernatural blood-drinking creatures. But Iwai Shunji's Sundance submission sets out to show how ugly being a "vampire" would be if it was actually a reality in today's world.
Whether or not it succeeds is up to the viewer (though from what reviews I've read, I've heard it has), but stars Adelaide Clemens and Rachel Leigh Cook sat down with MTV News to talk about the film's upfront title and the way vampires fit in to current pop culture.
"It was a working title to begin with when we first read the script so we had the option of maybe changing it but I think it's kind of great because it lures people in and kind of twists a bit," Clemens said. Read more...

If you caught our "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" premiere live stream last week then you've already been introduced to the fact that I am a pretty huge "Harry Potter" fan. I've been reading these books since I was 11 years old and seen each film the weekend it's been released since "Sorcerer's Stone" first hit theaters.
That being said, I've also kept up to date on the "Twilight" franchise, though I didn't get into the books until after "Eclipse" was released. I thought "Breaking Dawn" was a pretty big letdown (so sue me, I thought Edward was going to reclaim his "soul" and return to his human form, allowing him and Bella to live happily ever after without her being changed to a vampire), and I haven't been in love with the movies. So while my "Twilight" knowledge ranks up there with the best of them, I wouldn't say I'm the series' biggest fan. Read more...

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: It's official: Cute-as-pie 9-year-old model-actress Mackenzie Foy will play Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward's (Robert Pattinson) half-vampire-half-human daughter, Renesmee, in "Breaking Dawn."
In a special note posted to "Twilight"'s Facebook page, "Saga" author Stephenie Meyer confirmed the earlier casting rumors writing: "Hi Everyone! Congratulations to the Twilight Facebook Fan Page! 15 million fans! You guys never cease to amaze me. In other news... Very excited about our new Renesmee, Mackenzie Foy. She's an amazing young actress and I'm excited to work with her. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer!"

November 18, 2011.
That's when Twilighters will flock to movie theaters for what could be the last time. Summit has confirmed to MTV the news that "Breaking Dawn," the final chapter in Stepehenie Meyer's "Twilight" series is due for release in November '11. Interestingly, there's still no official word on whether it will be one or two movies. Deadline cites "Summit sources" as saying that it's a two-parter, and that recently revealed director Bill Condon is locked in for both. Read more...

UPDATE: Thanks to a tip from twitter follower @KimberChambers, we have an update on this direct from Stephenie Meyer herself:
Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I've said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I'm all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I've spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We're all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip get fabricated to stir things up, but there's no basis to this particular story.

So move along. Nothing to see here. The original post is preserved after the jump, for posterity. Read more...
FROM MTV.COM: A copyright-infringement lawsuit against author Stephenie Meyer alleging plagiarism in "Breaking Dawn," the final book in her "Twilight" vampire series, has been dismissed, according to a statement sent to MTV News by Meyer's publisher.
Jordan Scott, the author of a 2006 supernatural novel called "The Nocturne," filed a suit in August accusing Meyer of lifting elements — including plot lines and developments — from her book for use in "Breaking Dawn." On Wednesday, United States District Court Judge Otis D. Wright II dismissed Scott's claim.

There are many times in this line of work when I find myself suddenly struck speechless. When you're reporting on Hollywood and the Cult of Celebrity, strange happenings become the norm. So it was when I learned over the summer that "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer was to be the subject of a biographical comic book from Bluewater Productions. On the scale of baffling developments, this one ranked fairly low; I simply processed the news and moved on with my day.
Now the comic is here. And MTV has staged a dramatic, motion comic-style excerpt for you, compliments of Movies Editor Josh Horowitz. And I'm once again struck speechless. Serious this time though. Really... there are no words good enough to intro this clip. So just watch it.

If you're a true "Twilight" fanatic, you've probably already taken -- or at least started planning -- a vacation to Forks, Washington, the main setting for Stephenie Meyer's books and their film adaptations. Maybe you were one of the participants in June's Summer School in Forks. Or maybe you're on a tight budget, and so had to make do with the documentary "Twilight in Forks."
Well now you need to go a little further to prove yourself die-hard Twilighter status. According to USA Today, the latest hot spot destination for fans is Volterra, Italy. The small Tuscan town is home to the Volturi vampire coven, which features prominently in the latest movie installment, "New Moon." Read more...

FROM MTV.COM: Fans of Stephenie Meyer were pleasantly surprised when the author appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Friday (November 13) and revealed a secret about the second book in the series, "New Moon."
"I'm pretty open about my writing, but there was a different ending to 'New Moon.' Originally it was much quieter [and] in Bella's head," she revealed, adding that it was at the suggestion of her mom, Candy Morgan, that she changed the ending. "I introduced the Volturi earlier than expected and that whole scene at the end is there [because my mom thought it would be better that way]."

FROM MTV.COM: Stephenie Meyer wanted to make it clear when she announced that she would be a guest on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Friday, that this was going to be her one big interview about "New Moon." Arguably, Oprah is kind of a big deal, so we get it. The "Twilight" author took to her blog to announce that she was excited to chat with the talk show maven when she sits down with her on Friday (November 13). Yes, the author extraordinaire will be stopping by "Oprah" on — wait for it — Friday the 13th!
"You know I've been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I'm not changing that now, but I am making an exception," she wrote on her website. "I'm doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with 'New Moon' that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I'm only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big. So....I will be on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' on Friday, November 13th."
