The HobbitBetween behind-the-scenes video blogs and his copious Facebook updates, Peter Jackson has been keeping the door wide open for the viewers at home when it comes to "The Hobbit." Indeed, he's been the very source of some late-breaking news on the project in terms of dispelling rumors and confirming casting — and to the surprise of nobody, he's at it again today.

Jackson once again turned to his Facebook page to reveal three new casting additions to the world of "The Hobbit," his two-part prequel to the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

According to the director, actors Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage and Conan Stevens are the latest thespians headed for Middle-Earth. Find out the roles they'll be playing after the jump.

Woody HarrelsonFans haven't been universally appreciative of casting news on "The Hunger Games" thus far, with the possible exception being Jennifer Lawrence's attachment as Katniss. But here's something that everyone — or, at least, a "Lost" architect — can get behind: Woody Harrelson is on board as Haymitch Abernathy!

Many members of the Twitter-Wood community spent today observing the 10th anniversary of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" author Douglas Adams' untimely death, while still others remain obsessed with the demise of Osama bin Laden… so much so that one actor was not really able to unmask the Al Qaedea terrorist's killer.

I'm @roundhoward and this is Twitter-Wood for May 11, 2011.

The King's SpeechTo the surprise of few, "The King's Speech" came out of Sunday night's BAFTA awards show with seven of its 16 eligible awards in hand, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay, Leading Actor, Supporting Actor and Actress and Original Music.

These big wins certainly shorten the gap between "The King's Speech" and "The Social Network" for the Best Picture race as we head toward the Oscars. Though "The Social Network" originally struck many as the favorite -- and it did land a few big awards at the BAFTAs, including Best Director, Adapted Screenplay and Editing -- "The King's Speech" has picked up speed in recent weeks, with the string of BAFTA wins only furthering its momentum.

For those of you still upset about the slights at "Inception" for Oscar nominations you'll be happy to know that Tom Hardy was awarded the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award. It's an obvious recognition of the talent he displayed in "Inception" last year, and the film was also awarded for Production Design, Sound and Special Visual Effects.

Katy PerryStephen Fry surprised some Apple loyalists today by heaping praise on top of Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 devices. He's been a vocal supporter of Apple products in the past, but he offered an explanation of his open-minded position on Twitter.

In other tweets, everyone seemed to have a picture with someone else to share in the last 24 hours. "Weird Al" Yankovic arm wrestled with Fred Willard; Selena Gomez hit up a Katy Perry show; Ludacris went cruising with Tyrese Gibson; and Hugh Hefner hosted "Social Network" producer Dana Brunetti at the Playboy Mansion for a screening. Links to the pics await you after the jump along with Edgar Wright remembering the late Solomon Burke.

Hollywood had the "Lost" finale on their minds last night, and Damon Lindelof and Dominic Monaghan were no exceptions. Even Sarah Silverman, who knows what it's like to see a series end, got a list misty-eyed, judging from her reaction to the episode.

Elsewhere, Stephen Fry found a Tardis, Jackie Chan got smiley with his "Karate Kid" co-star and a couple of tweeters revealed what's been going on behind the scenes at "The Last Airbender." If you want to see some pictures and find out if you agree with Neil Patrick Harris about "Lost," you should probably click on past the jump and check out Twitter-Wood for May 24, 2010. Read More...

This was a rough week for memorial tweets, with Tisha Taylor Murphy and Roy Disney's passings both making headlines. More condolences showed up today for "Alien" screenwriter Dan O'Bannon and Bengals wide received Chris Henry, who both had their share of fans in our feed.

Following up on Jason Reitman's Olympic Torch tweets from the week, posted a much better photo today and got some moral support from Roger Ebert. You can check that out below, along with a shot of "New Moon" actor Alex Meraz's new t-shirt, two actresses who are not ashamed of their Wiis. It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 18, 2009. Read More...

"Eclipse" actress Jodelle Ferland claims that hackers descended on her website, which would explain the disarray currently on display if you visit Jodelle-Ferland.net. Her "Twilight" series costar Ashley Greene seemed to be having a much better weekend, however, taking in the U2 concert at the Rose Bowl Sunday night. Greene was joined by Danny DeVito, Demi Moore, and a host of others who tweeted pictures from the night.

Elsewhere, Tom Felton and Emmy Rossum are still undecided on their Halloween costumes, but Felton has officially nixed a Dalmation outfit and Rossum may be warming up to Pippi Longstocking. Check out what they had to say after the jump along with Edward Norton doing yoga, Billy Burke's "Harry Potter" shout-out and Stephen Fry's new secret video game role. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for October 26, 2009. Read More...

Peter FacinelliWarmoth's out, and he stuck me with the Twitter-Wood duties. He was here in the office only a few hours ago. Why didn't I force him to sit down and write it, under penalty of torture?!??!?! I don't have the routine down the way he does, so I hope you'll forgive what is sure to be a lesser TW column. I try my best, but Warmoth's shoes are big ones to fill.

I think I hit the main beats. "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli 'fessed up to being a "Star Trek" fan after a follower called him out for referring to a lousy "Trek" fight from the original series. Also, Mandy Moore proved that she has good taste in music while Dax Shepard and Stephen Fry both made some stunning sociological observations. Plus a very special Twitter Pic of the Day from "Harry Potter" star and "Superbad" fan Tom Felton, who got to hang with Jonah Hill recently. I'm @geminibros and this is your daily update of the goings-on around Twitter-Wood. Read More...

Johnny DeppFROM MTV.COM: Johnny Depp surprised fans at the Disney 3-D panel at San Diego Comic-Con by showing up at the end of Tim Burton's presentation of footage from "Alice in Wonderland."

Although Depp didn't answer questions, the crowd screamed and cheered when the actor was onstage, the room filling with flashes of cameras.

The shocking addition of Depp to the stage was a great end to the panel discussion, which began with filmmaker Tim Burton getting cheers of his own from the crowd. In a presentation that included a teaser trailer of various footage from the film in 3-D, Burton laughed about all the wacky characters who populate the world of his version of "Alice in Wonderland," including the Mad Hatter, played by Depp; the Red Queen, played by Helena Bonham Carter; and the White Queen, played by Anne Hathaway.

Johnny Depp, Tim Burton Preview 'Alice In Wonderland' At Comic-Con

Alice in WonderlandWOW. As a longtime fan of all things "Alice in Wonderland"-related, I've been looking forward to Tim Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's stories with something that far exceeds "great interest." It's more like "rabid enthusiasm," or "release more content before I go postal." And now that the first in-motion look at the movie has arrived, I find my vocabulary pared down to a single word: WOW!

For those of you fretting and raising eyebrows over this new Alice's (Mia Wasikowska) age or Johnny Depp's (he plays the Mad Hatter) star billing, know that Burton's story is a sort-of sequel to the Carroll original. You'll see all sorts of familiar characters and locales of course, but things have changed -- and quite a bit -- since Alice's first visit to Wonderland.

UPDATE: Apparently a certain website got a little overexcited about the "Alice" trailer and decided to run it a day early. These things happen. We've been asked to pull it down, and will of course comply out of respect for Disney, Burton and his talented team.

Keeping reading for some thoughts on the shiny newness. Read More...
