I don't know if many have gotten to check it out, but "Star Wars" has been on tour in recent weeks. Really, "Star Wars": In Concert, a nationwide (plus Canada) series of concerts celebrating composer John Williams' magnificent score for the six movies in George Lucas's long-running sci-fi franchise.

I was fortunate enough to check out last weekend's show at Nassau Coliseum, on Long Island. It was a jarring day actually, as I caught a 10am screening of "New Moon" that morning -- a PACKED house, I might add -- before jumping on a Long Island Railroad train out to the show. I wasn't sure what to expect, having only read that (1) a symphony orchestra was involved, (2) clips from the movies were involved and, most excitingly, (3) Anthony Daniels -- who played C-3PO in every movie -- was serving as some sort of master of ceremonies. An enticing mix for a "Star Wars" nut like me, and the reality of it did not disappoint. Read more...

Bill BelichickEverybody makes mistakes, even a three-time Super Bowl winning football coach like Bill Belichick. If a man like Belichick can cause a series of fatal game-changing events due to one bad coaching call — as he did during the fourth quarter of last night's game pitting his New England Patriots against the Indianapolis Colts — then you shouldn't feel too bad about breaking your mother's favorite vase or skipping out on "Drag Me To Hell" while it was in theaters. Alright, maybe you should feel bad about that last one.

But the Patriots head coach isn't alone in his ability to turn a single blunder into a catastrophic calamity — it's a storm that comes into port quite often in the hills of Hollywood. In fact, the following five film franchises have all seen similar collapses due to a fourth quarter fumble. Read more...

The Verizon Droid is not the droid you're looking for. Sure, it's probably a very cool phone — the folks at Wired are talking about how it legitimately gives the iPhone a run for its money, despite a handful of minor grievances — but I must insist that you hold out for other droids.

I know what you're asking — "What droids are we looking for, Wigler?" — and the answer, of course, takes us back a long time ago to a galaxy far, far away. Why settle for a simple handheld device when you can wait it out just a little bit longer for some bona fide "Star Wars" era technology?

I firmly believe* that we're not far off from making official contact with the folks on Coruscant and Alderaan — okay, maybe not Alderaan — which will thereby give us access to the droids we're looking for. If you're not as patient as I am, then let me stack the Verizon Droid against some of the "Star Wars" droids to illustrate why you should hold out a few more years. Read more...

-- It's been awhile, but I'm back with a look at what's going on Around the Blogosphere. First up for today is something from my good pal Jordan Hoffman at UGO. Hoffman has seen "2012" and he's not able to say much about it, but he did step up to confirm one fact: Woody Harrelson's character does indeed speak the words "Download my blog" during the movie. The thought over at UGO is that this should be the next great meme, something to replace the still-reigning "Chaos reigns" from director Lars Von Trier's genital-mutilating art-horror flick "Antichrist." Go check out what Jordan has to say; he explains it far better than I do. (UGO)

-- Next up I have the greatest photo gallery of all time to share with you. It is called "Stormtroopers 365." It is (or will be, when it's done) 365 images of Imperial Stormtroopers and other "Star Wars" figures arranged in a variety of hilarious situations. You can see a small piece of one up there on the right. You'd be better off checking out the whole gallery. It's amazing. (Stormtroopers 365) Read more...

FROM MTV.COM: While a Sarlacc may take over a thousand years to fully digest its prey, the pop-culture news cycle has proven once again to be the complete opposite — devouring and spitting out a new rumor about the "Star Wars" series in less than 24 hours this week. But what makes fans think there would be a new trilogy in the first place? And where should the most successful movie franchise of all time go from here?

The hijinks began Wednesday evening (October 21), when 3-D-movie-focused blog MarketSaw reported that it had an internal source who'd infiltrated the trusted circle of George Lucas like Princess Leia in a Boushh costume. According to the "absolutely connected" source, Lucas is making secret plans to create a new trilogy of films that will be shot in stereoscopic 3-D — and could be directed by such filmmakers as Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola. A mere four hours later, Ain't It Cool News had a Lucasfilm rep insisting "We do not have any Star Wars theatrical movies planned," and the ridicule began.

Today's look Around the Blogosphere is an unusual one, since it's pegged to news. Sort of. The rumor of a third, all-3D "Star Wars" trilogy was clearly going to be debunked, and quickly. Let's start at the beginning...

--"3D Motion Pictures Blog" MarketSaw posted yesterday that the folks at Lucasfilm have gotten it into their heads to do another "Star Wars" trilogy. Entirely in 3D. With franchise architect George Lucas stepping back into a production role. In short, a "Star Wars" junkie's happiest dream. All from a "trusted source." It's hard to swallow though, especially given MarketSaw's rumormill track record. (MarketSaw) Read more...

Yesterday, the discovery of 32 planets outside of Earth's solar system was announced by an international team of scientists. The existence of these planets — dubbed "exoplanets," short for "planets outside of our solar system" — should only further the line of thinking that we are not alone in this universe, even if our other neighbors are uninhabited planets in galaxies far, far away.

But what if they're not uninhabited? Indeed, what if these planets aren't even unfamiliar? The Movies Blog team happens to have a well-connected source close to the discovery of the exoplanets, and we can exclusively confirm that at least five of these brave new worlds have been featured in past, present and future works of fiction!

Okay, that's a lie. But let's put our "make believe" hats on for a moment and imagine that these five fictional planets were counted amongst the newly discovered exoplanets... Read more...

I am completely and utterly fascinated by the so-called Expanded Universe established by spin-off books, comics, TV shows and video games in the "Star Wars" franchise. The books are especially engaging to me, having continued the story long past the end of "Return of the Jedi," through the rise of a new Jedi Order and the deaths of some key characters (R.I.P. Chewbacca), among many other events. Today marks a new phase in the franchise's continuing evolution, as "Star Wars" takes a bold step into the realm of horror.

"Star Wars: Death Troopers," published by Del Rey, hits store shelves today. It fuses two things that are wholly awesome to me: "Star Wars" and zombies. As the story goes, a malfunctioning prison barge docks with a derelict Imperial Star Destroyer so the crew can scavenge for spare parts. Only they find something else, something dark and hungry, waiting in the shadowy halls of the derelict war cruiser. Just look at that cover art. Hit the jump for the official plot description and some words from the book's author, Joe Schreiber. Read more...

-- At last night's 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, hip-hop superstar Kanye West... well... he kinda made an ass out of himself. For those who missed it, Kanye grabbed the mic out of Best Female Video winner Taylor Swift's hands during her acceptance speech and proceeded to laud Beyonce and her video, which he thought should have won. The funny thing is, it's far from the first time Kanye's been a public jerk. Many of his outbursts have been attached to MTV appearance, but not all of them. Check out the video gallery that Movieline put together. (Movieline)

-- I'm a big fan of We Love You So, the official blog portal for Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak's book, "Where The Wild Things Are." This might be my favorite post yet though. A series of Photoshops featuring Wild Things in... unusual locations. Enjoy. (We Love You So) Read more...

HumpdayLots of good stuff popping around the blogosphere today. The problem with these round-up posts is that it's hard to really collect everything. Feel free to tip me here though; with so much stuff to file through, I will undoubtedly miss things. If you feel there's something that might be suitable for Around the Blogosphere, hit me up at tips@mtvmoviesblog.com. For now though, here's the latest set of click-worthy links...

-- MTV contributor Jenni Miller has a great opinion piece up at Cinematical about director Mark Duplass's Sundance darling "Humpday," which is now out in limited release. Take a look at our exclusive clip if you don't know about the movie, which also features Joshua Leonard ("The Blair Witch Project") in a starring role. Jenni contends that "Humpday" is not in fact a bromance movie, despite the heavy overtones of straight male-on-straight male action. A well thought out and easy to digest set of observations.
