1. "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" ($25 million)
2. "9" ($11 million)
3. "Inglourious Basterds" ($6.6 million)
4. "All About Steve" ($6 million)
5. "The Final Destination" ($5.7 million)

Despite the plethora of R-rated or similarly violent films at the box office this weekend, Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" proved the most cunning when it comes to earning theatergoers' hard-earned cash. "I Can Do Bad" took in $25 million over the course of the weekend, capitalizing on the $5 million lead it boasted over the competition going into Saturday morning. Still, Perry's "Bad" was only his third best opening ever, falling short to his earlier 2009 effort "Madea Goes To Jail," which made $41 million in its first weekend. Read more...

1. "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" ($8.6 million)
2. "9" ($3.3 million)
3. "Sorority Row" ($1.92 million)
4. "Inglourious Basterds" ($1.9 million)
5. "All About Steve" ($1.8 million)

After weeks upon weeks of violent fare dominating the movie scene, most box office watchers -- myself included -- expected a similar result at theaters this weekend. Considering Friday's results, however, there's a new lesson to be learned in Tinsel Town: never underestimate Tyler Perry. Read more...

Dane Cook has a proposal today for Ellen DeGeneres' replacement on "Ellen," now that she's going to be busy judging on "American Idol." Check it out, and see what you think. Cook leads the Twitter-Wood playlist today, right ahead of "Sorority Row" star Leah Pipes and Selena Gomez, who misses Freddie Prinze Jr.'s TV show "Freddie."

Eddie Izzard, Ice-T and previously featured photo subject Steve Agee all entered the running for the Twitter Pic of the Day today -- and though only one could come out on top, I've ranked them below, eventually giving Izzard the break because, well, he's run 39 marathons now, and that's worth acknowledgement. After all, how many have you run lately? Congrats to him, and congrats to you for getting to read the Twitter-Wood report for September 10, 2009. Read more...

Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are horror's own odd couple, THE GORE GIRLS!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.

To honor tomorrow's release of "Sorority Row," Jenni and Terri sat down with its predecessor for this week's Gore Girls: "The House on Sorority Row." For both the original and the remake, the plot is roughly the same. After a college prank gone awry ends in a tragic death, a group of sorority sisters are stalked by a killer who knows what they did... errr... wait a second. Wrong movie. The sisters are stalked by some maniac for their mistake and, in true horror movie fashion, they are offed one by one. And in case it isn't obvious, be careful: spoilers lie ahead! Read more...

They're not the only two releases on the plate this week, but they're the two which are most likely to divide audiences. Shane Acker's "9" has been something of a staple on MTV Movies Blog these past few months. I caught a screening over the summer and very much enjoyed what I saw.

Produced by Tim Burton and "Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov, "9" is set in a stitchpunk dystopian future in which humans have been eradicated. All that remains are robotic contraptions and little beings made of sackcloth. It's a short movie -- roughly 75 minutes -- but it gets in, tells a compelling story and then gets out with exceptional economy. You won't be left with many questions when the credits roll even though there's a relative absence of heavy exposition. In summation, "9" is short and sweet. Check out our coverage of "9" all this week on MTV Splash Page for exclusive clips, images and interviews. Read more...

'Sorority Row'FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: We gave you a sneak-peek at the stars of the upcoming horror flick “Sorority Row” earlier today with an exclusive video from MTV’s visit to the set, and now we’re bringing you two steamy images from the movie itself. Above, “Hills” starlet Audrina Patridge, who’s making her theatrical debut, and her boy toy in the movie, Matt O’Leary, are in the middle of a make-out session. Only this spit-swapping scene takes a turn for the worse when Audrina and her sisters decide to go in on a vicious prank.

Check out our EXCLUSIVE pictures from the set of "Sorority Row" at Hollywood Crush!

Larry Carroll and ShoWestThe cabbie who drove me to the hotel kept making fun of Ashton Kutcher. My room at Planet Hollywood is themed around Dolph Lundgren’s 1987 clunker “Masters of the Universe.” This afternoon, I browsed concession booths pitching Dipping Dots, White Castle Jalapeno Cheeseburgers, and more variations on nachos and popcorn than I thought humanly possible.

I might be in Nevada, but it sure feels like I’m still in LA.

Welcome to ShoWest, the annual convention in Las Vegas where theater owners, studios and journalists come to meet up and talk about all the big films of the next few months. I’ve already taken some pictures of all the various posters, from the best (“Terminator Salvation” has a really badass standee) to the worst (Nia Vardalos in a quasi-sequel to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” a half-decade too late?) to the uneventful (the “New Moon” poster is so plain that I found it over in a corner of the hallway, leaning against the wall virtually unnoticed). 'Audrina PatridgeSummit Entertainment just released the new trailer for their upcoming horror flick "Sorority Row," and I gotta say — I think it looks kind of awesome. Is that just me?

The movie stars Briana Evigan ("Step Up 2: The Streets"), Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis and our very own "Hills" star Audrina Patridge. (Also in the film? Carrie Fisher, which is incredible.) In the film, a remake of "The House on Sorority Row," a group of sorority sisters accidentally cause the death of one of their own in a prank gone really, really badly. And if you watch the trailer, you see that — spoiler alert! — Audrina is unfortunately the one that gruesomely bites the dust. (Watch the trailer after the jump.) Read more...

Audrina PatridgeDuring the last year, millions have watched Audrina Partridge do battle with the terrifying duo of L.C. and Lo on "The Hills." Now, the 23-year-old aspiring model/actress is reportedly preparing to face down an enemy even more evil than reality television.

Our horror-heavy friends over at Bloody-Disgusting are reporting that Audrina has joined the cast of "Sorority Row," a soon-to-shoot remake of the 1983 cult flick "The House on Sorority Row." She joins previously-announced leads Briana Evigan ("Step Up 2: The Streets") and Rumer Willis ("The House Bunny") for the film, which will mark the first high-profile effort from director Stewart Hendler.
