Jeremy RennerThe "Bourne" movies have a new leading man: Jeremy Renner.

Weeks after Renner's name first surfaced as a "Bourne" candidate over at Latino Review, it's now been confirmed that "The Hurt Locker" star has been offered the lead in Tony Gilroy's "The Bourne Legacy." Fans of the first three installments of the series, take comfort that Renner isn't replacing Matt Damon. Rather, the 40-year-old star will reportedly play an operative who is part of a covert government program that creates assassins like Bourne.

Renner beat out the likes of rumored could-be Bournes such as Alex Pettyfer, Dominic Cooper, and Joel Edgerton (more on him in today's Casting Call.) In addition to carrying on the new "Bourne" franchise, Renner is also in the works to take over the "Mission: Impossible" flicks and is taking part in the upcoming "Avengers" reboot.

Bradley CooperBradley Cooper, here's hoping you know how to fly.

Splash Page reports that "The Hangover: Part II" star is in talks to headline Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's remake of "The Crow." Not only would Cooper have the not-so-easy-task of taking on the iconic and beloved character Eric Draven, but he'll have to do so while preserving the memory of the late, great Brandon Lee, who died in the process of making the original movie. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but sources say the actor is "keen to board the project."

The first six minutes of Zack Snyder's latest have hit the Internet, and they're definitely something of a sucker punch.

Against a narration that speaks of silent guardians and angels, the opening minutes of "Sucker Punch" show how leading lady Emily Browning ends up at Lennox House mental institution. In true Snyder tradition, there are copious amounts of awesome music -- a remix of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" -- and slow motion used in the best possible combination.

After the jump, check out the first photos of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," find out which Hollywood actors are turning gangster and learn the first details of the "Transporter" TV series.

Jennifer LawrenceDown with the Capitol, and up with the casting of Katniss Everdeen!

Word on the street is that "Winter's Bone" lead and Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence is leading the race for the starring role in the upcoming "Hunger Games" adaptation, though a source confirmed to MTV's Hollywood Crush that no offers have yet been made.

Meanwhile, Josh Hutcherson admitted at South by Southwest that he would love to play Peeta, one of the two love interests in the flick. We're expecting that the casting of Peeta will wait until Katniss is in the bag, but it's worth noting that Hutcherson has thrown his hat into the ring.

But "Hunger Games" isn't the only news in the arena. The first "Conan the Barbarian" trailer has hit the web, Baz Luhrmann has a "Great Gatsby" update. and more after the jump!

The best trailers are the ones that pique our interest in a film without giving too much away, and in that I think we can all say that the trailer for Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" has succeeded. Melding gorgeous shots of outer space, Earth and the elements with the intimate story of the life of a man named Jack, the home-movie quality of the filmmaking, dramatic narration and use of Smetana's "The Moldau," the trailer certainly has an epic quality. And, considering that we've heard that this film will quite literally cover the history of the universe, I think that thetrailer imparts some of that sense of scope.

Sean Penn stars as the adult version of Jack, who is a lost soul in the modern world. The film follows his development as an 11-year-old living in the Midwest during the 1950s when the world still seems full of wonder. But as he grows older and begins to see some of life's suffering, he begins to view the world as a labyrinth that he cannot escape. Surprisingly enough, despite the cryptic nature of the trailer, all of that pretty much can be garnered from watching the teaser for the film. Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain star as Jack's parents, with Pitt's character using a firm hand to teach Jack "the world's way," while Chastain's character tries to teach him love and mercy and to see "with the eyes of his soul." The Cure's Robert Smith is a scary-looking dude. But Sean Penn AS Robert Smith? Whoa.

Technically, Penn isn't playing Smith. But dlisted rightly notes the resemblance in the collection of set photos they've posted. I dropped one of the images below, alongside a closeup of the actual Smith. Click it to check out dlisted's full gallery.

Wacky, right? The movie actually has nothing to do with The Cure. The Paolo Sorrentino written and directed film instead focuses on Penn's aging rock star and his quest to locate his father's killer, an ex-Nazi who is hiding out in the United States. It sort of just keeps getting better and better, right?

Rats, spiders, sharks? Bring ‘em on. In the grand scheme of things, I don’t possess a lot of fears, phobias or terrors. But there is one thing I am deathly afraid of, something that has literally kept me up at night: The new “Three Stooges” movie.

As I’ve written before, I’m a lifelong Stoogemaniac who can’t help but feel that the Farrelly Brothers’ planned reboot is a bad, bad idea. So, when I caught up with Benicio Del Toro over the weekend at the press junket for this week's "The Wolfman," I just had to hear it from his own mouth: They’re seriously going to make this thing?

“Well, we’re not there yet,” explained the “Traffic” Oscar-winner, who is planning to play Moe Howard. “But the idea is still alive.” Read More...

The stars of "Twilight" are certainly capitalizing on the success of the angsty vampire phenomenon. I just wonder: with such a large portion of the ensemble landing roles in other films, what will that mean for the production of the still-unannounced adaptation of "Breaking Dawn," the final chapter in Stephenie Meyer's series? Hard to say, but that definitely leaves a big question mark hovering over this latest bit of potential casting news.

The word is that Robert Pattinson may soon be sharing a bill with two-time Best Actor Oscar winner Sean Penn in an adaptation of Sara Gruen's best-selling book, "Water for Elephants," Variety reported yesterday. The news describes the two superstars as "circling" the gig -- ie they're in talks right now -- though Variety mentions that Pattinson at least will likely land the part. Read More...

Sean PennAs we've already reported, Sean Penn and Hollywood are breaking up. Or at least going through a trial separation. One of the consequences of this newly announced hiatus is Penn's departure from the Farrelly Brothers' "The Three Stooges," a film that's now in jeopardy thanks to the actor's sudden exit.

With the role of Larry now open, it'll be up to a last-minute replacement to save the film. So who in the movie business could possibly jump in at the eleventh hour to knock noses and poke eyeballs with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro? It remains to be seen -- but I've certainly got my picks. Read More...

Sean Penn"The Three Stooges" are down to Two. Sean Penn has said "soitenly not" to the Farrelly Bros.' "Stooges" revival, and walked away from the project, leaving Moe and Curly without their Larry. Quick, somebody call Shemp!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Penn is dropping out of "Stooges," as well as the thriller "Cartel." The actor's sudden change in plans is based on the need to spend more time with his family. Sources say that he may keep away from movie-making for as long as a year, though the two-time Oscar winner gave no set timetable. Penn and his wife Robin Wright Penn have been in and out of the tabloids for their marital woes. Who can really blame them for taking a little personal time?

Maybe the Farrelly Bros., who are facing a collapse of their "Stooges" remake. While Universal plans to move forward with "Cartel" and recast the leading role, "Stooges" has really been left in the lurch. The writer/director siblings have spent years trying to get their slap-happy film off the ground. They scored a big victory in landing Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro for the cast. "Stooges" was scheduled to begin shooting in August and MGM had set a release date of 2010.

Now the Farrellys need to decide whether they'll recast the part or wait for Penn, a delay that could cost them the other two Stooges. There's even a possibility that the entire film could be scrapped. That's certainly what MTV's Larry Carroll is hoping for. THR notes that "half of Hollywood would poke their eyes out for the part," so maybe the casting fun, drama and violence is just beginning...

MTV readers, are you sorry to see Sean Penn take a break from the big screen? What do you think should happen to "The Three Stooges" remake? If it goes forward, who would you like to see replace Penn as Larry?
