Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a monumental 2012 in front of him. He's set to star in some of the year's biggest films, including "The Dark Knight Rises," Spielberg's "Lincoln," the sci-fi thriller "Looper" and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained." That isn't even counting his bike messenger starring vehicle, "Premium Rush."

But now, you can add a directorial debut to JGL's planned list of 2012 accomplishments. This year, Gordon-Levitt will helm his first movie, a comedy he wrote himself. He'll also pull star duty as the film's lead, a "modern-day Don Juan" who tries to change his womanizing ways.

Scarlett Johansson will co-star, along a yet-to-be-cast second female lead. Gordon-Levitt said that the role is one that may surprise the fans that know his previous work. "I wrote myself a helluva role, one that people wouldn’t necessarily thought of me for," he said.

Tom Cruise

After mulling over the project for many months, Tom Cruise has at last committed to Warner Bros' upcoming film "All You Need Is Kill."

Deadline has the news that Cruise has joined the project, which is being directed by "Jumper" helmer Doug Liman. He'll likely start shooting the movie after he wraps Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion," which he is set to start after he finishes the current shoot on "Rock of Ages." "All You Need Is Kill" follows a new army recruit who gets killed during a battle against an alien species, and is reborn every day to suffer the same fate. When he starts realizing that he is becoming a better soldier as each day passes, he figures out that maybe he can do something to alter the course of the battle.

We already know that David O. Russell's adaptation of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" will star Mark Wahlberg in the title role and, with any luck, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as two members of his fortune-seeking family.

But it won't be an entirely testosterone driven affair, as Russell told MTV News on the red carpet of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards that he's looking to cast some pivotal female roles.

"There's going to be some women," he said. "Listen, there's going to be romance and sex, I promise! Otherwise, I'm not interested! That's why I love Amy Adams and Melissa Leo and the sisters in 'The Fighter.'"

BanksyThere's just five days to go until the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, so you'd better start hedging your bets now. And, no, not on whether Annette Bening will pull a Best Actress upset over Natalie Portman, but if Banksy will pull one over on the Oscar producers during the telecast.

It was reported earlier this month that the controversial street artist, who is nominated for Best Documentary for his whip smart, is-it-real-or-not-docu-comedy "Exit Through The Gift Shop," was causing a bit of anxiety for Oscar producers. So much so that Academy president Tom Sherak had allegedly met with "Exit" producer Jaimie D’Cruz to make sure that if the film did win, someone other than Banksy would appear on stage to collect the award.

Sherak and executive director Bruce Davis reportedly feared that Banksy -- who never reveals his face and often hides under a monkey mask -- would take the class right out of the joint if he were to make the Oscar stage his own piece of performance art in his simian get-up. As Davis explained it to Entertainment Weekly, "The fun but disquieting scenario is that if the film wins and five guys in monkey masks come to the stage all saying, ‘I’m Banksy,’ who the hell do we give it to?”

It seems like Davis and Sherak are sticking to their guns, at least according to the UK's Metro. They've reported that Banksy (who may or may not have left his mark on Los Angeles recently with paintings of Charlie Brown smoking a cigarette and pouring a can of gasoline), has had his request to the Academy chiefs to attend in disguise declined.

When we talked to Matt Damon at the press day for the Coen Bros.' awesome Western "True Grit," he told us that he "really, really, really" wants to star in Neil Blomkamp's sci-fi thriller "Elysium." But while Damon has yet to seal the deal for that flick, he is 100 percent on board for "Jerry Maguire" writer-director Cameron Crowe's next project, the dramedy "We Bought a Zoo."

"I'm really excited," Damon told MTV News of "Zoo," which is based on a memoir by Benjamin Mee and tells the true story of how the author and his family used their life savings to buy and fix up a dilapidated zoo on the verge of destruction in the English countryside. "We're starting next month. Cameron's terrific, and he's just such a terrific writer. He's been sending me drafts of the script, and I feel like I'm in really capable hands." Read More...

It's been a crazy past 24 hours for Ryan Reynolds. Last night, the trailer for the actor's eagerly anticipated superhero flick "The Green Lantern" debuted online, and today People magazine revealed that Reynolds has been named the Sexiest Man Alive 2010.

But while garnering the Sexiest Man title won't have any benefits on the home front with wife Scarlett Johansson (other than the fact that she'll now have to call Reynolds "Sexiest man" when she tells him to take out the garbage) the release of the "Green Lantern" trailer could have plenty of benefits for his movie career... that is, if fans embrace the the film.

Here's a quick rundown of the plot: Reynolds plays a Han Solo-esque test pilot named Hal Jordan who's bequeathed a green ring by a dying alien. The ring gives him powers beyond his imagination and makes him part of an intergalactic crew of Green Lanterns tasked with defending the universe.

Check out the trailer, then head over to Splash Page to check out our editor's analysis of the top five moments from the "Green Lantern" trailer. And, while you're there, take a sec to let us know what you think of the trailer by voting in Splash Page's "Green Lantern" poll (which closes Wednesday, November 17, at 8 p.m. ET). Enjoy!

Mike WhiteIt still doesn't have a leading lady attached to it, but "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" looks like it's finally slayed itself a director. Last week, the list of candidates was narrowed down to three potential directors -- Mike White, Neil Marshall and Jeffery Blitz -- and on Friday Deadline confirmed that an offer had been put out to White. Thank goodness, because that means we're definitely in for a comedy.

We're still waiting on an official confirmation that the much-sought-after Scarlett Johansson will be playing Elizabeth Bennett, but we're hopeful she'll come on board now that the project has a director. The biggest impediment to Johansson's involvement could be her suddenly busy schedule -- she recently signed on to play a man-eating alien seductress in the sci-fi drama "Under the Skin" and Matt Damon's wife in the Cameron Crowe dramedy "We Bought A Zoo." Scarlett JohanssonScarlett Johansson has always been just a little bit sexier than humanly possible, and at long last it's clear why: She's an alien! OK, not really, but she's set to play one in "Under the Skin," a new sci-fi drama from "Sexy Beast" writer-director Jonathan Glazer, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

And ScarJo isn't just playing any alien. According to FilmNation, the company behind the project: "Johansson plays an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey -- her voracious sexuality." Hmmm ... if that didn't sound so much like the plot of a porn movie, it might remind me of the 1995 flick "Species." That puppy starred Natasha Henstridge as a sexy alien intent on getting knocked up -- so she uses her, um, voracious sexuality to seduce men, bang them and then kill them afterward, praying mantis-style. Scarlett JohanssonIn case you missed the memo (and I'm not saying you did), Scarlett Johansson is one of Hollywood's most in-demand actresses. But for someone who just kicked butt (literally) as the superheroic Black Widow in this summer's biggest hit, "Iron Man 2," she's got a pretty wide-open schedule. In fact, the only gig Johansson has lined up is reprising her Widow role in 2012's "The Avengers." So it's no wonder that with some high-profile projects currently looking to cast their leading ladies, ScarJo's name has popped up numerous times today alone.

This morning, Deadline reported she was one of a gaggle of gorgeous Hollywood A-listers being considered for the pivotal role of Daisy Buchanan in ,a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/baz-luhrmann/">Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" adaptation, which reportedly has Leonardo DiCaprio in line for the Jay Gatsby role and Tobey Maguire tentatively on tap to play narrator Nick Carraway. And now, Deadline is saying that Scarlett is also one of four actresses writer-director Cameron Crowe is eying to play Matt Damon's wife in "We Bought a Zoo." Read More...
