Saw

If you thought "Saw 3D" was going to be the last installment of the gory franchise, then you might want to sit down for this news. The rest of us can stand, because we saw this coming a mile away — every diehard horror fan knows that a movie claiming to be the "final" installment isn't really finished for good!

Lionsgate has just revealed that a new "Saw" flick is on the way. During an interview with CNBC, Vice Chairman Michael Burns got a little chatty about the company's big moneymaker. "I'm sure, some day, you'll see 'Saw' back in the picture," Burns said.

It makes sense, at least financially; Lionsgate has a potential franchise in "Hunger Games," but could certainly use backup from the reliable "Saw" series. From a fan standpoint, anyone who watched James Wan's "Insidious" could have guessed this was coming. Some of you may have spotted the chalk-drawn Billy the Puppet with an "8" underneath him on the blackboard in one scene.

Argue for or against a new "Saw" movie in the comments below, and click past the break for more of this week's Horror Bites.

SawSeven movies in six years. If nothing else, that's an amazing turnaround that the "Saw" franchise should be quite pleased with. Indeed, the seventh entry into the franchise — titled "Saw 3D" — lands in theaters today, once again bringing Jigsaw's terrible torture devices to theatergoers just in time for Halloween!

But after seven films, you'll have to forgive the "Saw" series if it's gotten a little bit, well, convoluted. If you thought it was all about bear trap masks and severed feet, you've been missing out on one heck of a horrifyingly complicated mythology.

But not to worry, we've got your back. After the jump, check out some snapshot synopses of the previous "Saw" films to catch you up in time for "Saw 3D"! Read more...

I am terrified of the "Saw" series and its blood-soaked ilk. I can say that right up front. Gore-heavy horror just ain't my thing.

That said, this new trailer for "Saw 3D" is all kinds of awesome. I love the overt implication that going to the theater for the 3-D experience could mean your doom! Watching those spiked braces lock themselves down over the shoulders of audience members? Fantastic.

MTV's Fall Preview week of exclusives continues today with a look at the hottest upcoming movies of the next four months. We know what you should see and why you should see it, and we've got it all right here. Keep it locked to MTV News and MTV Movies Blog for continued updates throughout the week!

What's It Called: "Saw 3D"

What It's About: Jigsaw is back! Well... sort of. His legacy remains intact, and someone's out to keep it alive. All while his (admittedly few) survivors gather, looking for support from a self-help guru. Of course, knowing "Saw," nothing will turn out as it first seems.

Who's In It: Tobin Bell , Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Sean Patrick Flanery, Bobby Dagen and Gina Holden. From the same writer/director team behind "Saw VI": Kevin Greutert helming, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton writing.

Why You Should Care: This is supposedly the last "Saw" movie ever! Or at least until someone decides to do a Jigsaw origin story, which could be pretty cool. Also, Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington (pictured above) makes a cameo as "Unannounced victim." Sweet.

When You Can See It: October 29

Yesterday we posted an exclusive four-minute clip to "The Human Centipede (First Sequence)"—which premieres today in limited release—in which the Mad Doctor explains his crazy plans to his unfortunate victims. Crazy-ass experiments and medical procedures are a staple of cinematic storytelling. Sure "Human Centipede" takes the cake and then force-feeds it back to us, but the concept of people attempting to make science their bitch has been entertaining and freaking the hell out of people for quite some time.

Slip on your doctor scrubs and hit the jump for five examples of movies that laugh at modern medicine and take the term "human guinea pig" to a new level of creepy. Read more...

Is Jigsaw finally going to die? I mean, really really die? No more flashbacks, no more traps, no more gangly bear trap masks? Well, probably not, but the screenwriter behind the upcoming "Saw VII" seems to think that the end of the franchise is nigh.

Latino Review transcribed an interview between screenwriter Patrick Melton and radio station Demon FM where the writer discussed the possibility that "Saw VII" — currently being called "Saw: Endgame" — could be the final chapter of the horror franchise. Read more...

Rube Goldberg machines are awesome. There's nothing quite like watching an absurd, elaborate series of actions and reactions. It's tricky stuff, making sure disparate mechanical parts that weren't designed specifically to work together operate in concert. Can you imagine what it's like setting up one that could hurt you? Hell, what about one that's intentionally designed to kill somebody, like the ones deranged killer Jigsaw sets up in the "Saw" movies?

Imagine the hours upon hours it takes to set up those elaborate deathtraps. How many tetanus shots he must need after sticking himself with rusty power tools. How many vaccinations he must require from handling all those used syringes. Hell, how many times the poor bastard has stubbed his toe after dropping that damn puppet. He's bound to have set up some traps that plain don't work, schemes that looked great on paper but just didn't prove up to the challenge of potentially killing an FBI agent. So let's take a moment to reflect on what are undoubtedly Jigsaw's greatest failures, those wily death traps that just didn't cut the mustard. Read more...

Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are horror's own odd couple, THE GORE GIRLS!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.

"Saw" really needs very little introduction. The series has come a long way since the original hit theaters just a couple days before Halloween in 2004, but that first movie is still ingrained in the minds of anyone who saw it. Two men awaken, chained up on opposite sides of a sealed room. Between them lies a corpse with a tape deck in one hand and a handgun in the other. They soon learn that they are pawns in a deadly test put to them by a sadistic serial killer known as Jigsaw. Blood-letting ensues. See what the Gore Girls thought after the jump. Read more...

Today's eBay Prop-Watch pick is kind of a gimme. "Saw VI" is out on Friday. So what better item to feature than a prop from "Saw V"? Not that I can really speak from a position of experience; those "Saw" movies are far too gory for my fragile sensibilities to endure. I've got to give it up for the franchise though; all five previously released films in the series have grossed five times or more than their budget.

So today's Prop-Watch pick is from "Saw V." It might come as a surprise to learn that it isn't a piece of a Jigsaw puzzle/death trap. Nor is it a Jigsaw doll, an item which appears to be fairly popular on eBay. No... today's item is something completely different. And wholly terrifying. If I caught a glimpse of this on the street late at night, I would quickly run in the opposite direction. Screaming would be a distinct possibility. Hit the jump for a look at what might inspire such madness. Read more...

With “Saw VI” bleeding its way into theaters this weekend, not only is it time once again for the annual October franchise, but it’s also time for another autumn tradition: chatter about the production of the next film. And now that word is out on “Saw VII” being filmed in 3-D, the series stars are eager to talk to us about how it might impact Jigsaw’s master plan.

“I’ve never acted in a 3-D film,” explained Tobin Bell, a veteran actor looking forward to diving into the realm many consider to be the future of blockbuster moviemaking, but promising he’ll still be the same old John Kramer. “I don’t plan to do anything different than I always do.” Read more...
