John GoodmanThe cast of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" continues to get extremely awesome and incredibly better. John Goodman is the latest actor to come on board the adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's post-September 11th novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will play the character Stan the Doorman, a minor character that works at the main character Oskar Schell's apartment building and befriends the 10-year-old boy.

He joins newcomer (and "Jeopardy!" winner) Thomas Horn, who plays Oskar, and Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks, who play Oskar's parents. Director Stephen Daldry is directing the film, and Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth penned the script. Read More...

George ClooneyThe revolving door of casting news/changes that has plagued Warner Bros' "Gravity" might officially have come to an end today, with The Hollywood Reporter breaking the news that George Clooney has signed on to take over Robert Downey Jr.'s role in the Alfonso Cuaron-directed sci-fi pic. Coincidentally enough, our savvy team here at Movies Blog suggested this very switch back in October when rumors surfaced that RDJ was dropping out.

Clooney takes over as a leader of a space station (said to be a supporting role) who is one of two survivors after the station is destroyed by space debris. Sandra Bullock (in the lead role) is playing a mother who is determined to return to Earth so she can be reunited with her daughter. Read More...

Thomas HornOskar Schell, the main character of Jonathan Safran Foer's bestseller "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," is an extremely special 9-year-old. He's an inventor of helpful devices such as ambulances that call out "he's alright!" or "it's a close one!" instead of using sirens -- that way loved ones know what to expect. And he's also invented buildings that move instead of elevators so someone on the top floor of the Twin Towers would still able to escape when a plane hits the building. The child of a man who died during the September 11 terrorist attacks, Oskar is brilliant and heartbreaking and a wonderful narrator of a wonderful book.

So when director Stephen Daldry set out to adapt the novel for the big screen, the most important part of the process was finding the perfect young actor to play Oskar. Well, according to Deadline, he has. Daldry has signed on 12-year-old Thomas Horn, the wiz kid who made headlines for winning first place on "Jeopardy!" and $31,800 in prize money to boot. Robert Downey Jr.It's been a rough year for "Gravity." Everything started out so promising with the casting of Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Jr.. The movie was expected to film over the summer, but then things turned south when Jolie dropped the project in August and the film clamored for a female lead. Finally, earlier this month, Sandra Bullock became attached to the female lead, but now Deadline is reporting that RDJ may have to leave "Gravity" as well due to scheduling conflicts.

Right now we're still at "rumor" stage, and Deadline emphasized that Warner Bros. executives are denying Downey's departure. Still, considering he planned on filming "Gravity" over the summer, is now getting his sleuth on filming "Sherlock Holmes 2" and is attached to a number of other project's including Sam Raimi's "Oz the Great and Powerful," his busy movie schedule sounds like it could cause some major conflicts. It would be a big setback for the project, but fortunately it would be a lot easier to replace Downey as the male supporting role than it was to fill the lead female role. The film follows two astronauts who are the only survivors after their space station is destroyed by space debris. Bullock is playing the female lead who is hell-bent on returning to Earth so she can be reunited with her daughter, while Downey was set to play her co-pilot. Should Downey be forced to leave the project, we have a couple actors in mind that would make very suitable co-pilots for Bullock. Read More...

Sandra BullockIt seems only natural that director Anne Fletcher would propose to Sandra Bullock that they reunite after the success of last year's "The Proposal." According to The Hollywood Reporter Fletcher did just that... and Bullock has said "I do": The two of them are teaming up for an as-yet-untitled romantic comedy that's being written by "The Wedding Planner" scribes Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis and is said to be in the vein of "An Unmarried Woman" and "Saturday Night Fever."

Though she has yet to tackle a role since her Oscar win for "The Blind Side," Bullock does have several other high profile projects in the works as we speak... and I don't think I'd be the first to suggest it might be better for her to put the rom-com down, slowly back away and try something a little bit different. That could be Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi thriller "Gravity" or the upcoming adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's novel "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" or even "Most Wanted," which would reunite Bullock with her "Proposal" costar Ryan Reynolds. After the jump, we weigh the pros and cons of each and cast our vote for which film Bullock should go with next. Read More...

Sandra BullockLast year, Sandra Bullock scored the two biggest box-office hits of her career, "Alfonso CuarĂ³n's 3-D space thriller "Gravity."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bullock is in negotiations to star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the film that has already seen a bevy of beautiful A-list actresses come and go.

Originally set up as a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie, Brangelina's poutier-lipped half departed the flick when Warner Bros. reportedly balked at her $20 mil salary. This summer, the studio talked to Marion Cotillard, screen-tested Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively, then shifted their gaze back to Jolie. None of this yielded a leading lady, so WB started talks with Natalie Portman, who's garnering the strongest buzz of her career for the upcoming psychological thriller "Black Swan." Read More...

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with Ms. Bullock's publicist, who informed me that there is absolutely no truth to this news. Sorry folks-- we usually get all of the facts first, but this one slipped by. Move along, there's nothing to see here.

Steve Carell is fresh off the weekend opening of "Dinner for Schmucks" and now Production Weekly is reporting (via The Playlist) that he may be reuniting with some of his old pals for an upcoming gig. "Little Miss Sunshine" producers Albert Berger, Ron Yerxa and Polly Johnsen are prepping an adaptation of Tom Perrotta's 2007 book "The Abstinence Teacher." It was originally announced with directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris attached to helm back in 2006, a few months after their "Sunshine" released. Now it's back with no mention of Dayton/Faris but the "Sunshine" producers on board... and high-profile talents Carell and Sandra Bullock set to star.

The story follows a liberal-minded divorcee in middle America, a sex education teacher who doesn't see eye to eye with the more conservative folks in her community. A wrinkle enters the story in the form of the teacher's daughter's soccer coach, a born again Christian whom she falls for. Bullock would presumably take the teacher role and Carell, the coach. He did a fine job of delivering a more serious performance in "Sunshine" and I look forward to seeing him do so again in "Teacher."

Earlier today I brought you Betty White's response to the tender moment Sandra Bullock shared with Scarlett Johansson as she accepted her Generation Award at last night's 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Frankly, a lot of people were talking about that moment, the most surprising kiss of the night by far. "The Other Guys" star Will Ferrell? He liked it quite a bit.

Quite a bit. Russell Brand, on the other hand, is a more discerning fellow. He didn't turn his head in disgust or anything, but he had some ideas to share for improving on the kiss next time. Ideas... which... well I'm not going to print them here. But you can listen to Brand explain his nefarious plan after the jump. Read More...

So last night, this happened:

Sandra Bullock, accepting a Generation Award for her outstanding efforts in 2009, was confused when award presenters Bradley Cooper and Betty White ("All About Steve" and "The Proposal" co-stars, respectively) were joined by Scarlett Johansson. Long story short, they kissed. Bullock and Johansson. As you can see above. What did Betty White think? Read More...
