It actually came closer to happening than you think.
"As a matter of fact, years and years ago they came to me with 'Spider-Man,'" the neo-Hitchcockian director -- whose newest movie "Redacted" centers on the media coverage of the Iraq War -- revealed to MTV News. "I still have those stacks of comic books." Read more...
Now that we've gone live with a Sam Raimi interview so in-depth that we practically asked him what kind of tree he'd want to be, you can head over to the MTV Movies mothership to get the very latest on the future of the "Spider-Man," "Evil Dead," and "Lord of the Rings" franchises.
Believe it or not, there were still some tidbits that we weren't able to squeeze in; read on for news on Raimi's "Grudge" series, as well as a brand-new project and a classic sci-fi remake.
"'20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' is a really fine screenplay, based on the great Jules Verne novel," Raimi said of one of his upcoming producing efforts. "It's currently in search of the right director for the project."
Telling the tale of Captain Nemo and his adventures in the submarine Nautilus, "Leagues" would be getting its second take on the silver screen. "I'm a big fan of the first book, as well as the Disney movie that was made many years later in the 1950s," he explained. "It's screaming for a reinterpretation, because as great as the other picture was, it was 50 years ago now." Read more...
The jury may still be out as to whether or not he'll direct it, but one thing's for sure...Sam Raimi isn't going anywhere when it comes to the billion-dollar "Spider-Man" franchise. "We're beginning to meet with writers," Raimi -- who may take the reigns solely as a producer on "Spider-Man 4” -- told MTV News' Shawn Adler, while declining to speculate on which characters could be gracing the silver screen for the next chapter of Peter Parker's adventures.
