Skyfall

After "Casino Royale" so capably rejuvenated the Bond franchise, "Quantum of Solace" was a bit of a letdown. Heavy on intended gravitas and jumbled action collages, the sequel didn't quite deliver with audiences or critics, leading to a temporary hiatus for 007.

But have no fear: Daniel Craig, still the capable British killer, promises that "Skyfall" will be a lot better.

Skyfall

Goodbye "Untitled James Bond 23" code title, hello "Skyfall." At long last, the name for Sam Mendes' take on the 007 franchise has been revealed, along with some other key details about the project.

Director Sam Mendes met with 100 journalists at a London press launch for the flick to offer some details about the secretive production. However, according to a report written up by Reuters, Mendes still wasn't ready to give everything away. He confirmed a number of the actors involved in the project -- including Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes -- but could "give you very little information about" the characters they're playing. "The Hunger Games" teaser at the VMAs was more than just a passing glimpse at the upcoming film: it was a taste of things to come. Director Gary Ross caught up with Hollywood Crush over Skype and said that the movie, like the book, is going to be very much from the perspective of its main character, Katniss Everdeen.

"That's one of the fun things about it. There are times when you're viscerally inside [Jennifer Lawrence's] shoes, and that's the main experience," he said. "And there are other times when you're witnessing her the way they're witnessing her in the Game—and she's constantly being watched, which is one of the things that makes the book so compelling. But it's mainly an intense first-person experience, inside Katniss' shoes."

Daniel CraigThere are many rumors swirling around the upcoming "Bond 23" production, but if Daniel Craig is certain about one thing, it's that Sam Mendes is the right person to direct the movie.

Recently the "Bond" leading man sat down with his "Cowboys & Aliens" director, Jon Favreau, for an interview, and conversation steered towards the next untitled installment in the "007" franchise.

Each of the "Bond" films Craig has been a part of have had different directors -- Martin Campbell for "Casino Royale" and Marc Forster for "Quantum of Solace" -- so Favreau asked the actor what he thought of Mendes "classing up the franchise."

In a nutshell? "I think it's kind of a great choice," Craig said.

Daniel Craig as James BondJames Bond fans will have 007 reasons to be grateful next Thanksgiving: MGM has given the suave superspy an official date of November 9, 2012, for his big-screen return, according to Deadline.

MGM had stated this fall that audiences could expect the next Bond adventure in November 2012, but this is the first time the company has given a firm date for the film. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, together with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, the co-chairmen and chief executive officers of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, announced the film's release date, also confirming what has long been suspected: James Bond 23" film will unite Daniel Craig -- playing Bond for the third time following stints in 2006's "Casino Royale" and 2008's "Quantum of Solace" -- with director Sam Mendes ("American Beauty," "Road to Perdition"). James BondAgent 007 has already locked in a November 2012 release date for his forthcoming return to the big screen, but less certain is the continued involvement of Daniel Craig and supposed director Sam Mendes.

Today, at least one of those two men inches closer towards the currently untitled 23rd James Bond movie. In an interview with The Daily Mail, Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet — who was formerly married to Mendes and is the mother of his children — said that she and her family will relocate to London as Mendes begins work on "Bond 23."

"Sam is doing the next Bond film, all being well, and we’ll all be in England if that happens," she said. "It’s such a massive commitment for him and it’s not fair for him to commute backwards and forwards to New York from London. It would be impossible. The children will be there with me." Daniel Craig in Quantum of SolaceBy now, you've probably heard all about how the woeful financial struggles of once-powerful studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have been holding up the works on future James Bond movies (it owns the rights to the 007 franchise). Well, good news -- on Wednesday, MGM rejected a takeover bid by Lionsgate and billionaire Carl Icahn... and instead filed for bankruptcy! That may not sound like the peachiest news, but in doing so MGM has effectively wiped $4 billion in debt off its plate and set in motion a complicated financial restructuring that will allow it to continue to make movies, including the soon-to-be-in-production "The Hobbit"... and more James Bond flicks!

According to Bloomberg, in submitting the bankruptcy claim, MGM charted its plans for the coming years, and chief among them was assigning a release date to the long-awaited follow-up to 2008's "Quantum of Solace." The next 007 film -- for now let's call it "James Bond 23" -- is slated to hit theaters in November 2012. Read More...

The word on the virtual street is that director Sam Mendes or Adam Shankman -- one or the other -- may soon be heading to the magical land of Oz for a prequel treatment of L. Frank Baum's classic tale, "The Wizard of Oz." They're both at the top of the list of potential directors for producer Joe Roth and Disney. Also a possibility is Robert Downey Jr., who would star as the Wizard in the days before he came to parcel out internal organs in scroll form from his curtained hideout in Emerald City. "Oz, The Great and Powerful" -- formerly "Brick" -- comes from a script by Mitchell Kapner. For more on this story, check out the full report on MTV.

Sam Mendes is a big talent. James Bond is a big franchise. Put the two together... crap, I don't know what to think. How about "SWEET!"?

The news, coming to us by way of The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, is that the Oscar-winning director of "American Beauty" may next turn his attention to the smooth-talking, lady-seducing, martini-drinking -- shaken, not stirred, 'natch -- MI6 agent with a license to kill. The article states that Mendes is "in negotiations" to helm "Bond 23." MTV reached out MGM for comment, but the official line is that they are not confirming anything at this time. Read More...

Aaron EckhartFROM SPLASHPAGE: Back in October, the 'Net leaped out of its seat and shouted "Hallelujah!" over the news that Vertigo's groundbreaking series "Preacher" had broken out of development hell and a "Preacher" movie was on its way to the silver screen after Columbia had obtained the rights to the franchise (with Sam Mendes pegged to direct). Heck, we were so excited over the news that we even threw together a "Preacher" casting call!

However, we later discovered that the news of Mendes' attachment to "Preacher" was a bit premature. So, when MTV happened to catch the Oscar-winning director on the red carpet at The Golden Globes, we had to check in and see there had been any movement since the news first broke.
