Tim Burton

"Dark Shadows" director Tim Burton will be adapting a haunted gothic novel about a dark family tragedy (shocking, we know), "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."

The story comes from author Ransom Riggs' book of the same name that feels similar to Edward Gorey by way of a vintage photo nightmare depicting … peculiar children (a few of the misfits include a girl who had the ability to hold fire in her hands, another who always levitated off the ground, and there were twins who could talk without actually speaking … ). Teenage Jacob visits the home in question, located on a remote island off the coast of Wales. Once there he realizes that the abandoned abode holds a darker and more dangerous secret than previously imagined. Get more on the news over here. You can also read what Ransom told Hollywood Crush about wanting Tim Burton to direct the adaptation -- looks like he got his wish!

We'll find out more when Burton collects his cast and crew, but for now visit more Horror Bites past the break.

All Josh Hartnett needs is his fists to kick some serious butt in the newest teaser for "Bunraku."

Who needs set-up for a movie when a minute-long video clip can just show Hartnett beating up on baddies left and right? Clearly his character, The Drifter, has some anger issues to deal with. "Bunraku" first premiered as an official selection during Midnight Madness at 2010's Toronto International Film Festival, and is slated to hit theaters on September 30. Though this trailer only shows off Hartnett's skills fighting his enemies, the movie does have a lot more to offer -- "It's not all about fighting," Woody Harrelson's character tells The Drifter, though he doesn't exactly agree.

"Drive" has been generating a ton of interest lately, and a recently released trio of clips is solidifying that interest even more.

In terms of casting, I'm pretty sure the line-up of Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks and Ron Perlman is all the awards-season candy the critics can take. And all of the stars of "Drive" look to be on their A-game, if these clips and the response to the movie so far is any judge.

Season of the Witch exclusive photosEven in these precarious times, there are a few precious certainties in the movie world: "Harry Potter" flicks will always do well, Robert Downey Jr. will at one point be attached to star in just about everything... and movies starring a long-haired Nicolas Cage in ape-s*** violent mode will undoubtedly be awesome. That's why we here at MTV Movies Blog are itching to see the actor's latest flick, "Season of the Witch."

In the film, Cage and Ron Perlman play 14-century knights who return home from the Crusades to find their homeland ravaged by the Black Plague. Deeming witchcraft the culprit, the Church commands our war-weary heroes to lead a small group charged with transporting a suspected witch through some seriously dangerous country to a remote monastery. There, monks will perform a ritual aimed at exercising that there witch's demons, hopefully thereby ending the Plague. We're betting things don't work out so well for the monks.

Check out two exclusive photos from the film below. Read More...

I have no idea where this rumor originated — a fair bit of Googling hasn't revealed the source — but someone somewhere floated the idea that Ron Perlman might co-star in "At the Mountains of Madness." The ever-unreliable IMDb even lists Perlman as a rumored castmember.

I was unaware of all this when Guillermo Del Toro stopped by the Newsroom on Wednesday afternoon to chat about his newest vampire novel, "The Fall." Our talk soon turned to "Mountains," an adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's Antarctica-based horror tale that del Toro is set to direct with an assist from producer James Cameron. In the midst of talk about the potential cast, del Toro kicked us word about how Perlman — the star of his two "Hellboy" features — figures into the project.

"All I can tell you is if Ron Perlman is free, he will be in," del Toro told us. "I wrote a part for him. He read it and if everything falls in place, Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him." Read More...

Back when "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" came out, cinema pundits everywhere wondered if its use of nearly 100-percent CGI sets would usher in a new age of filmmaking. Its lackluster run at the box office put an end to that argument (with "300” being a notable exception), but that isn't stopping other forward-thinking storytellers.

Such is the case with "The Mutant Chronicles," a sci-fi action pic starring Thomas Jane, John Malkovich and Ron Perlman. In the film, humans are battling against an army of underworld NecroMutants, and true to form nearly everything except actors and props is set against a green screen. You can check out the results when it hits theaters April 24 (or VOD as of March 27), but for now check out an exclusive clip below featuring a steampunk-esque dogfight high above the earth.

It pleases me immensely that I'm able to type the following sentence: "28th century soldier Major Mitch Hunter leads a fight against an army of underworld NecroMutants." That's the one-line synopsis for "Mutant Chronicles," an upcoming sci-fi indie film that boasts an esteemed cast of no less than John Malkovich, Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman.

Based on an early '90s role-playing game, the movie finds four corporations duking it out over the planet's remaining resources when an errant bomb inadvertently unleaches a horde of mutants. Jane (as Hunter) must battle to save humanity, and along the way encounters Brother Samuel (Perlman) and Constantine (Malkovich). Got it? The film will premiere on HDNet Ultra VOD on Friday, March 27th, 2009, followed by a theatrical release in select cities on Friday, April 24. Click here or on the photo below for exclusive photos from "Mutant Chronicles."

Ron PerlmanTransporting witches sounds like a job for Hellboy, so why settle for a substitute? According to ComingSoon.net, Ron Perlman has joined Nicolas Cage in the supernatural thriller "Season of the Witch."

The film follows a group of 14th-century knights who are given the unlucky task of transporting a girl suspected of being the witch responsible for the Black Plague (disease-carrying fleas just don't make that compelling of a story, I guess). Their goal is to take her to a monastery, where a group of specialized monks will attempt to get rid of her plague-causing demons. I imagine there will be lots of spooky happenings and sword-fights along the way. Read More...
