Oddballs and weirdos populate this week's Horror Bites. Some are living large (1,200 pounds to be exact), and others are blind as a bat, but Bruce Campbell (and his chin) remains horror's eternal hero and keeps things light with a new game to play.
50 Cent takes on Satan in a new based-on-the-book movie. The rapper/actor plays a blind DJ and will be starring alongside upcoming "Fright Night" actor Anton Yelchin for this tale originally penned by Dean Koontz.
An actor from "Robot Chicken" is gaining several hundred pounds for a role in David Arquette's "Glutton," which sounds like shades of David Fincher's creepy "Se7en." A family moves into a haunted house thanks to a "hauntrepreneur's" recommendation. Meanwhile, Freddy Krueger will be howling alongside strippers in a new movie that wins the award for most obvious film title ever.
Take a bite out of this week's horror news after the jump.

-- Robert Englund doesn't need Freddy Krueger. He's got an all-new demonic franchise to call his own in the form of "Inkubus," an independent horror movie about a demon that walks into a police station and confesses to several crimes, all while holding a severed head. Perfect. [Variety]
-- James Gandolfini is on his way back to HBO, but he won't be returning to his mafia roots. Instead, he'll produce and possibly star in single-camera comedy series "Taxi-22" based on a French Canadian comedy about an inappropriate cab driver. [Deadline]
-- Elizabeth Perkins is no longer rocking the ganja, as the "Weeds" actress is leaving the Showtime series in favor of a big screen role in "I Hop," a live-action/CG-animated hybrid comedy. [The Hollywood Reporter] Read more...

No, not Jackie Earle Haley. As much as I may be a fan of the Rorschach actor, he is not the real Freddy Krueger. That distinction will always and forever belong to the great and powerful Robert Englund. I say this with the utmost respect: that man doesn't chew scenery; he lays it out as a 14-course banquet.
In today's Daily TwitPic the original Krueger has a run-in with "Juno" and "Jennifer's Body" writer Diablo Cody. Stripped of his scarred face and knifey nails, Englund still manages to be lethal. Simply, he chokes her. The question *I* have is what brought this unlikely duo together? Is Cody's next effort "Night Terrors on Oak Lane" with Englund as demonic madman Frankie Kroger? Read more...

Horror icon Robert Englund – the original Freddy Krueger of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” fame – is slashing his way back into action this week, just in time for Halloween, in a new web series called “Fear Clinic.” In the series, Englund portrays a maniacal genius named Dr. Andover who is obsessed with finding new ways to cure people of their greatest fears – even if it kills them.
Last night on “Attack of the Show” Englund spoke at length about his new character. “I’m kind of a misunderstood genius,” he explained. “But I did something bad in the states. I lost my medical license and had to do community service at a prison. Guess who I ran into – Kane Hodder, the original Jason! And I drag his hockey pucked ass down to my clinic south of the border.” Read more...

Now this is a dream come true talent roster for geeks everywhere. Marvel is prepping a kid-friendly animated TV series for the Cartoon Network entitled "Super Hero Squad." The cute & cuddly character designs are born of a Hasbro toy line bearing the same name. I somehow doubt that Captain America will be pierced by a sniper's bullet in this series.
Over on MTV Splash Page, Brian Warmoth reports that last week's San Diego Comic-Con brought some serious casting for the series. A veritable smorgasbord of geek culture icons will be joining the voice cast, including George Takei ("Star Trek"), Tricia Helfer ("Battlestar Galactica"), Robert Englund ("Nightmare on Elm Street"), James Marsters ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Greg Grunberg ("Heroes") and Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes"). Oh... and the one and only Luke Skywalker -- Mark Hamill, who will voice Nazi supervillain/severe burn victim Red Skull.
Yes, you read it right: this kids show will feature a Nazi supervillain. Check out the full details in Brian's story over on Splash Page.

In 2003, the epic battle between horror icons Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees finally took place – and the results were somewhat mixed. Jason was even dumber than usual, Freddy lost but still somehow managed to win, and fans complained that the "Freddy vs. Jason" battle promised by the title didn’t even take place until the very end of the movie.
Naturally, fanboys continue to dream that someone will someday revisit the concept and finally do it justice. But with a new Jason stepping in for the upcoming "Friday the 13th" remake, would the hockey-masked maniac still be interested?
"I would love to," grinned the massive Derek Mears when we caught up with him recently. "I would love to do anything with Robert. That guy's amazing, so yeah!" Read more...
