We've been having fun trying to dissect everything that's been teased or featured in the "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" promotional campaign, without getting too detailed or spoilery of course. From the look of things, it's clear that there is a lot going on with new characters and supervillains and such. Director Guy Ritchie told us that this movie is like the first one but on steroids, for example, and while one of those obviously amped up elements are the action sequences, there also seems to be a lot of Holmes dressing up and down in a variety of disguises.

When MTV News caught up with Robert Downey Jr. recently we asked him what he enjoyed most about all the costume changes and the pros and cons of men dressing in drag.

We'd say Sherlock Holmes has gotten himself into a rather surprising situation in MTV News' exclusive "Game of Shadows" clip, but then we'd be kidding ourselves: knowing what we do of Robert Downey Jr.'s brillz detective, there's nothing all that shocking about seeing Holmes, in drag yet shirtless, crawling along the outside of a speeding, occasionally exploding train as his pal, John Watson, complains that this is no way to spend a honeymoon.

And that's the big takeaway not only from this new footage, but from the sequel itself (which we managed to catch last week): director Guy Ritchie has taken everything that worked in the 2009 original and delivered way more of it.

Although Robert Downey Jr. has been all about the superhero action star spectacle films recently, we can't forget that his body of work pre-"Iron Man" involved a virtual smorgasbord of characters in a lot of quieter think pieces, TV dramedies and quirky indies.

Therefore when the news broke earlier this year that Downey Jr. and director Paul Thomas Anderson might be working together on a big screen adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's "Inherent Vice," it seemed like a perfect fit for moviemaking magic.

Anyway, when MTV News caught up with the man in question at the press day for "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" recently, we asked him if the report about "Inherent Vice" was fact or fiction.

"Anything to do with Paul Thomas Anderson and I doing a movie together is probably true," Downey Jr. said. "We tend to talk about a variety of potential projects, and Thomas Pynchon's 'Inherent Vice' could be great, we'll see."

What can you expect from the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" sequel, "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows"? Well, according to director Guy Ritchie, you can expect everything to be "bigger and better."

MTV News was lucky enough to head to the London set of the film back in January to chat with Ritchie and leading men Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law about the latest installment in their steam punk-esque, action-packed franchise. Ritchie said that this time around you can expect everything to be a bit more extreme because now he "knows the identity" of his colorful characters.

"I supposed I stuck my toe in the water creatively on the last one. I'm probably a little bit more confident about who these guys are," Ritchie said.

Robert Downey JrRobert Downey Jr. and Warner Bros. are teaming up again, this time to remake "Perry Mason."

The well-known material started out as a novel, then became a radio show, a TV series, a series of movies and another TV series. Variety broke the news, and says that Downey will star as the titular defense attorney who specializes in trial and criminal work. He was most famously portrayed by Ramond Burr from 1957 to 1966.

Yesterday on the blog, we heard from "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" star Jared Harris, who plays Professor Moriarty, a nefarious character the actor calls the original "super villain."

Today, we bring you further insight into the way Moriarty figures into the plot of the "Sherlock" sequel, courtesy of the titular inspector himself, Robert Downey Jr. As RDJ told us when MTV News visited the UK in January, there are challenges in bringing Moriarty out from the shadows in which he resides in Arthur Conan Doyle's stories — and well as the 2009 film — and into the big-screen spotlight.

"I think the trouble we ran into is in the books, they refer to him more than they actually see and hear from him, which keeps giving him more power," Downey said. "In a cinematic sense, that won't work. In a book, that's great. I think that was one of the struggles."

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" is getting into the gypsy business — a business that requires no small amount of balls, according to director Guy Ritchie.

MTV News recently visited the set of the "Sherlock Holmes" sequel, which lands in theaters on December 16, 2011. There, we witnessed a tremendous amount of action and intrigue from our favorite mystery-busting pair, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and learned a little something about how Noomi Rapace's gypsy character factors into the storyline.

"She meets Holmes in London for the first time," Rapace told us on the set. "She has a personal reason to join him and Watson on this trip and journey."
