Battleship

There is something serious going on in the new "Battleship" trailer: explosions. Also, Rihanna (we think).

In the trailer, which debuted over at Apple today, there's lots of robots that turn into other things (we can't legally say they "transform," can we?), and tons of super slow-mo shots of beautiful people looking really, really confused and upset.

The "Battleship" trailer has invaded theaters and computer screens, and MTV News has a few things to say about it.

By now you've probably seen the trailer in all its Taylor Kitsch-y, Brooklyn Decker-filled glory, but what you haven't seen is the souped-up version featuring expert commentary from MTV Movie Blog head honcho Josh Wigler and MTV News Deputy Managing Editor Eric Ditzian.

Click on the video above to let the hilarity ensue, and then click past the jump to read even more thoughts on the trailer.

In a rather odd twist, Rihanna has the lead female role in director Peter Berg's upcoming adaptation of the board game "Battleship." It will be the pop singer's first movie role; that, coupled with young up-and-comer male leads Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard, means that a lot of eyes are going to be on this planned 2012 release. And with the shoot happening in Hawaii right now, it's something of a miracle that Rihanna was able to get to Los Angeles for her surprise Video Music Awards appearance with Eminem.

"It really killed me that I couldn't be here and, luckily, I got the day off," she told MTV's Jim Cantiello backstage after her performance. "Eminem, he called me the day before and said, 'Please, I'm having a really hard time doing this without you.' We had a really great song ['Love the Way You Lie'], and I just was like, 'Oh damn!' It killed me. And then they allowed us to leave [the set] and do it, and we jetted in and we're gonna jet right back out." Read More...

"Battleship." You can be forgiven if you didn't take plans for a movie version of the classic board game seriously when it was first announced. It's real though. Peter Berg is directing it. Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard are starring. Pop star Rihanna was also recently confirmed to be joining them in a lead role. That's the kind of casting that sells movie tickets, my friends.

We've got a special treat for you today, in the form of a first look at Rihanna on the set of the film. As you can see in the tease up above and in the full pic after the jump, she's outfitted for combat. In the movie she'll presumably get to unleash her inner badass and fire a gun at some of those invading space alien bastards. Read More...

While we still aren't sure what role Rihanna will play in board game adaptation "Battleship" (I hope, for her sake, she gets to get it on with either Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard... or both), we imagine she will bring her own flare for theatrics to the role. The thing about her casting is that it has us wondering what pop stars would do well in other planned movie adaptations of board games. Read More...

While on a recent swing through South Korea, Rihanna told MTV Asia that she's desperate to crack some jokes on the big screen. "I want to do comedy," she said. "I enjoy watching funny movies and hanging out with funny people."

Sounds good to us. But there are many pitfalls on the way from a career as a recording artist to one as a genuine Hollywood funnywoman. If Rihanna wants to make us laugh, she'd be wise to follow these five simple steps. Read More...

If there's one thing I've learned about the glorious IMDB over the years, it's take what's listed in the future with an ample grain of salt. Sometimes the only way to find out if a star is indeed attached or not is to go straight to them and that's what our own Sway did with Rihanna here.

She's been rumored for a while to be making her acting debut in something called "Mama Black Widow." IMDB says it stars her alongside Mos Def but as you can see from the video below we're going to have to wait a little while longer for her big screen debut.

Just because the show was over, that didn't mean the stars were going home. The proverbial after-parties took center stage in Hollywood last night, post-MTV Movie Awards. We hit the clubs and report back with our exclusive observations.

A couple of the "Fantastic Four" cast -- we'll call them the Terrific Two -- Chris Evans and Ioan Gruffudd partied at the official MTV function held at Universal Studios. Porno King Ron Jeremy and "Hairspray" star Amanda Bynes were also in attendance. Over at Sugar, they sure were shady at the door to Rihanna's party. The doormen irritated Jay-Z when he was trying to make his entrance and even made that sexy Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls wait several minutes to enter.

Inside, the woman of the night -- Rihanna -- shunned the VIP section in favor of showing off her drop-dead, any-guy-would-want-to-marry-me-now-knockout red dress. On the dance floor, she danced to her own music, Sean Paul and Beyonce. Meanwhile, another cutie was in the building: "Entourage" member Lauren London. Funnyman Chris Tucker cooled out with Giant Magazine Editor-in-Chief Smokey Fontaine (Giant sponsored the party in celebration of Rihanna being their current covergirl) and another jokester, Guy Torre, was seen shaking hands and rubbing shoulders as well.
