Fans of the sci-fi classic "Blade Runner" may have gotten their hopes up over the weekend after Twitch reported that Harrison Ford, the star of the original, was in early talks to return for director Ridley Scott's follow-up.
Unfortunately, Twitch's scoop didn't pass the Voight-Kampff test. Deadline is now reporting that Alcon, the company producing Scott's proposed return to the world of replicants, has completely denied any rumors surrounding negotiations with Ford.
Calling the rumor "patently false," Alcon co-head Andrew Kosove reiterated what had been previously stated about the film, stating "What Ridley does in 'Prometheus' is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie."

Film geek scoop of the day: Harrison Ford is apparently in early talks to appear in Ridley Scott's new "Blade Runner" movie.
One imagines he would be back as the iconic Rick Deckard, though, of course, that's mere speculation at this point. A "Blade Runner" sequel is at least two years away from coming to fruition, and nothing has been set in stone, including Ford's possible casting.
But if he is involved in Scott's new take on the "Blade Runner" universe, then there's a lot of ways it could play out.

The story of Cormac McCarthy's "The Counselor" is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing in Hollywood and one that could result in a truly fantastic film.
Deadline reported last night (January 31) that Ridley Scott is in talks to direct "The Counselor," based on the first feature film script by McCarthy. Scott would make it his next picture after "Prometheus."
For those of you just hearing about this, the Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist shocked everyone—his agents most of all—when he turned in a spec script back in December. The story garnered comparisons both to McCarthy's novel "No Country for Old Men" and the television series "Breaking Bad."
The story follows an attorney in the American Southwest, who thinks he can dip his toe into the drug trade without getting buried too deep. He would be wrong.

A new international poster for "Prometheus" has been released, but for those of you hoping it would give some insights into the movie's many mysteries, it's a little bit of a letdown. This is pretty much the same poster as the one released in the United States, albeit showing a bit more of that giant stone head that we've seen floating around in the promotional material.
AllNewz, an Italian news site, has the poster. At least what we can take away from the consistency between these two posters is that the big head will have a major role to play in the movie.
Check out the new international poster for "Prometheus" after the jump.

"Prometheus" isn't an "Alien" prequel, you say? Sure fooled me — because the just released trailer for director Ridley Scott's long awaited return to the science fiction arena looks exactly like a continuation of his 1979 horror masterpiece, in the very best of ways.
The trailer, which hit the web today, is a teaser in the truest sense… which, admittedly, is a little bit frustrating considering the three back-to-back trailer teasers that were previously released this week; their combined runtime extends longer than the full "Prometheus" teaser itself!

It's been a very long time since Ridley Scott directed a science fiction film -- so long, in fact, that he'll barely tell us what his newest one is about. Half a year away from the release of "Prometheus," we've only been told a handful of details regarding the film: it takes place in space, it's kinda-maybe an "Alien" prequel, and the cast -- including Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba -- is loaded.
All that changes on Thursday, when the first "Prometheus" trailer will be released. For now, we can make due with a trailer teaser, courtesy of iTunes.

The first two "Alien" movies are sci-fi classics, so it's not surprising that we all wanted Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" to be related in some way. Indeed, it is -- there are "strands of DNA" floating around in the film that'll come out next summer, but not much else.
That seems okay; based on the first official poster, there will be enough mysterious sci-fi goings on without accounting for the dense "Alien" world. Check out that poster (as well as a new "John Carter" poster) after the jump!

Ridley Scott could soon become a very busy man. In addition to developing a sequel to "Blade Runner," the "Prometheus" director is eying two other big budget projects that he could potentially helm over the next year.
The first film on his docket is a biopic about Gertrude Bell appropriately titled "Gertrude Bell." The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Angelina Jolie is poised to star in the film, though the deal hasn't been finalized yet. It would be her first live action film since 2010's "The Tourist," and would align with her own interest in international policy.
Also on Scott's list of potential projects is a movie that could star Gerard Butler.

The official "Prometheus" synopsis has been unleashed, and as cool as it is — A discovery about the origins of humanity! An intergalactic voyage! An extraterrestrial battle with genocide-level implications! — the description still leaves much about Ridley Scott's "Alien"-DNA project unknown.
All in good time. Back at San Diego Comic-Con, though, "Prometheus" writer/producer Damon Lindelof kicked us a ton of info about his collaboration with Scott, the nature of the roles Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron play in the film, and who might actually turn out to be the hero-heir to Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. With the "Prometheus" synopsis on the web, we figured now is the right time to roll out our interview. Read on for insight into the 2012 flick, in Lindelof's own words.

The folks over at Alcon Entertainment don't want you to be worried about Ridley Scott's upcoming follow-up to "Blade Runner." They want you to be excited for it.
Just don't expect to see Harrison Ford returning to this film, whether he wants to or not. "In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott," producer Andrew Kosove told The Los Angeles Times about the project. "But if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no."
"This is a total reinvention," he continued, "and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."
