"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is confirmed as the next chapter in the zombie series, a rare success case in the world of video game-to-film adaptations. It may not be a monumentally successful franchise along the lines of "Twilight" or "Harry Potter," but "Resident Evil" movies have a habit of performing well with audiences whenever they're released.
What we know so far: the shoot is already underway, with a planned 3-D release for the movie late next year. Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter will reprise their roles as Alice and Claire Redfield, respectively. Also confirmed are Shawn Roberts as the villainous Wesker and "Prison Break" star Wentworth Miller as Claire's brother Chris. Read more...
"Resident Evil: Afterlife," the upcoming fourth installment in the video game-turned-film franchise, is set to lens in Toronto next month with a prison-centric plot -- and luckily for our zombie-fighting heroes, there's one guy coming aboard that's had some experience in the big house.
In an interview with Black Film, actor Boris Kodjoe revealed that he'll star in the upcoming "Resident Evil" film alongside Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter, both of whom return in their roles as Alice and Claire Redfield, respectively. But Kodjoe also threw an entirely new actor in the mix: none other than Wentworth Miller, the star of the recently concluded "Prison Break" television series. Read more...
-- The poster for Michael Jackson's "This Is It" premiered at Yahoo! Movies. It's a cool image: Jackson's silhouette, arms thrown outward and upward, with a collage of performance stills scattered around inside the human form. For those who haven't been keeping track, "This Is It" is a documentary featuring the recently departed pop star's final performance footage. (Yahoo! Movies)
-- Jerry Bruckheimer is preparing to blow up the small screen with loud noises, lots of gunplay and spectacular explosions. The mega-producer is bringing his talents to NBC for an untitled TV series which will tell "the stories of a team charged with making sure fugitive criminals don't evade justice." The last time Bruckheimer teamed with NBC was for the short-lived "E-Ring" in 2005. (The Hollywood Reporter) Read more...
All sorts of news flying around the web today. Some of this would have run earlier on the blog, had it not been for a midday technical SNAFU. Here's a round-up of what we missed:
-- I don't know if it's the "first" to hit the web (I'm pretty sure it's not), but IGN UK have posted their review of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." It's mostly high praise for Stephen Sommers' high-energy action flick, and I couldn't be more pleased. I'd been feeling uneasy about "Joe" in recent months, but all of those fears were literally BLOWN THE EFF UP when I saw the movie myself this past weekend. (IGN UK)
-- "Monster Squad" director Fred Dekker revealed at a weekend screening of his family-friendly classic that he's currently hard at work on a script for "Cliffhanger 2." For those who don't recall, "Cliffhanger" stars Sylvester Stallone as a mountain climbing rescue worker who ends up pursuing an international gang of thieves along snowy mountain peaks. Word emerged back in May that a reboot was in the works, and now it looks like we have further confirmation. (FirstShowing) Read more...

I missed the news last week (bad MTV Movies Blog editor!) that the live-action portion of the "Resident Evil" series would be getting a fourth installment, "Afterlife," which is set to begin shooting in September. Dread Central, which broke the older news, now brings word that Paul W.S. Anderson will return to the director's chair.
In case you're new to the series or simply unaware, Anderson wrote and produced all three preceding "Resident Evil" films. He also directed the first one, in 2002. The Anderson confirmation comes by way of Production Weekly's Twitter page. But wait! There's more! Read more...
