Sylvester Stallone is throwing back to his '80s fame this week in the ensemble action romp, "The Expendables." As one of the premiere action stars of the past 30 years, it's very exciting to see him going back to his roots, especially with the great cast he's surrounded himself with.

MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to Stallone about "The Expendables" at San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago, and talk inevitably turned to two other projects with roots in the actor's past.

First was "Poe," a biopic about the late horror author Edgar Allen Poe that Stallone has had his heart set on doing for a long, long time. "I will direct it, but it's never gonna live up to the hype," he said. He jokingly added, "No matter what I do it's going to bomb, totally. Totally! When you've been talking about something for 30 years, it's impossible [to live up to those expectations]." Read More...

Last week, "The Expendables" star Sylvester Stallone sat down to answer a week's worth of fan-submitted at Ain't It Cool News. In one of the entries, someone asked about the possibility of Stallone returning to the character of John Rambo, not to play him but rather to get his origin story up there on the big screen.

Stallone, who has previously collaborated with AICN on these sorts of interviews and has always gamely entertained fan questions & theories, was intrigued. "I certainly think this is worth pondering because it’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have come to become what they are," he wrote. "The traumas, the loss and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo after having played it for 20 plus years."

It's actually a pretty terrific idea, telling the story of how a crazed and broken John Rambo returned to the States in the original film, "First Blood." Who would you cast though? Stallone's shoes are mighty big ones to fill and it's going to take just the right actor to pull it off. Since chances are high that this isn't something that will ever happen I have no problem rattling off my casting ideas after the jump. Read More...

For the record, I'd be perfectly okay with more "Rambo." Star Sylvester Stallone is always fun to see on screen and the 2008 return of his grizzled Vietnam vet was a better-than-it-should've-been exercise in kickass action and excessive gore. Sadly, it looks like more John Rambo exploits are not to be.

Speaking with MTV's Josh Horowitz at the Spike Guy's Choice Awards this past weekend, Stallone revealed that he is "99 percent sure" that Rambo's fighting days are over. Running through a description of the 2008 film's last scene, he explained that that felt like "the legitimate finale" for the series to him.

So very sad. Until "The Expendables" drops in August and Rambo is reborn in spirit in Stallone's character, Barney "The Schizo" Ross!

With the bloody awesome that ensued in "Rambo" and the hopefully bloody awesome contained in next year's "The Expendables," there is absolutely no reason that today's announcement of a fifth "Rambo" film should be anything but bloody awesome news.

According to Variety, Sylvester Stallone is officially planning a sequel to last year's "Rambo," which he will once again direct and star in for Nu Image/Millennium Films. Production is expected to start in the spring of 2010.

Variety describes the plot of the untitled "Rambo" sequel as revolving around "Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border." Read More...

Rose McGowanThe "Inglourious Basterds" premiere last night attracted a huge lineup of stars, and many of them, including Brett Ratner, Diablo Cody and Sarah Silverman shared their reactions today via tweets. The inspiration that Ratner drew for his remake of "The Boys from Brazil" will be of particular interest to movie fans, as his impassioned tweets certainly lit up the Twitter-Wood feed today.

Rose McGowan, meanwhile, cued up a copy of "Twilight" only to be quickly appalled by the murder of the innocent deer, which she announced on her account. All of these great moments, as well as Frankie Muniz's kickball match with the Jonas Brothers and Dax Shepard's "Rambo" party wound up below in the Twitter-Wood report for August 11, 2009.
